Baby drowns in lake during family camping trip

A seven-month-old baby boy drowned in a lake near Queensland's Sunshine Coast while his family was camping. Homicide detectives are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

Good afternoon. Was this a tragic accident? Ought something more sinister.
That's what police are right now trying to figure out
after this baby boy drowned just meters from his family's campsite.
So far, no one's been charged over the death north
of Gimpi on Saturday. Emergency services were called to Chatsworth
Park around ten thirty that morning following reports the seven

month old had been found unresponsive. The child was pulled
from the water by his mother and a number of
witnesses performed CPR before paramedics arrived. Sadly, the infant was
pronounced dead at Gimpy Hospital overnight.

Some it's awful after the police come and the police
been here for the last couple of days.

You wonder how a seven month old child could get
close enough the water by themselves deaned up in that
sort of trouble.

The mother of the child did retreat the child from
the water. It's been very experience for her clearly. So yeah,
we're just there's this missing parts leading into that that
we need to try and establish and square away.

Police say the child's family had camped at the park
around forty meters from the water's edge on their way
back to North Queensland. Homicide detectives and the Child Trauma
Unit are assisting local officers as they piece together how
the child came to enter the water. Police are urging
anyone who was here on Saturday morning or who may
