Power struggle unfolding for Victorian homeowners

Premier Jacinta Allan has walked back her push to electrify homes by forcing Victorians to give up their gas appliances. Gas home heating is now exempt, and the rest of the plan has been delayed until 2027.

First cook tops now heating, the premiere once again cooling
off her plans to phase out household gas. Where we've
landed is exactly the right place.

Under the changes, homeowners will no longer have to switch
gas home heating to electric when they expire. Old hot
water systems will have to be replaced by electric, but
only if it's not too expensive. Landlord's face the toughest
rules forced to switch out all gas systems, and the
new regime has been delayed until twenty twenty seven.

I don't trust them. They want to crush the choice
of consumers and households.

The state government says its reforms will lower demand for
gas and drive down household bills. The opposition claims it's
all a sneaky strategy.

The government wants to push out these issues past the
state election into twenty twenty seven. If they win, they'll
bring back all of these anti gas agender items.

Philippely switched to an electric heat pump of his own accord.
Three years on, he's had to revert back to gas.

We'd wake up in the morning and have no hot water.
It turned out to be the worst decision.

Experts say switching household appliances are low hanging fruit, a
much bigger factor as prices being driven by international demand.
