Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Caterbriefers podcast with Sophie Nathan all Right,
let's kick off. She has performed at Glastonbury, two brit
Awards to her name, and she's the honest music dance queen.
Biggie Hill joining us in studio. It's so started to
have you in Nay, thank you so much for having
me and coming all the way halfway down under the world.
How was that trip down here?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (00:22):
First time?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yes, first time here, and I think it's kind of
mad that I can take a plane for thirty hours
and get here and people know my music.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I just think that's absolutely mental.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
We've had like two shows in Australia, one in Sydney,
one in Melbourne, both sold out headline shows. We did
two festivals over in New Zealand and the reaction there
was just insane.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
So it's been.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Really lovely to feel the warm welcome that I'm getting
over here really makes me feel like I'm not doing
this for like for no reason, Like it feels like
it's working, which is so lovely to feel.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
What it is amazing and honestly, down here in Ali
and New Zealand, we are such a fan of your music.
What was it like I was there in the New
Zealand show for New Years, you saw in the festival
for us? What was that moment like hearing everyone sing
back your songs to you.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I think you never really know what songs resonate in
what parts of the world. And I think you can
go over somewhere and you know expect, like the MK
collaboration to go off, But that was in the UK.
That's something that everybody kind of knows, but over here
it was like that was one of the lesser known ones.
Interesting and then you can go and do the one

(01:32):
with net Sky and Chasing Status and there were two
Wilkinson records and everybody in New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Any of those records word for word.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
And I actually haven't been to a place and sang
those records and had that reaction like that ever. Wow.
So it's really nice to be able to kind of
test out who knows what, and it's really nice to
see that people do know the stuff over here.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
It's it's really humbling.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah. So the new track we're talking about how music
is its of different places. You've teamed up with Australian
artist Sonny Fordeira how did that coleab come about?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
So I actually worked with Sonny back in twenty nineteen
with a writer called Karen Paul who has been a
long standing collaborator of mine. She was an artist herself
actually back in the day and then has gone on
to write amazing songs like Lola's Theme by the Shape Shifters,
which is an iconic dance record for me, a lot
of Kylie stuff, And then we started working when I

(02:26):
joined the industry, and we went on to remember with
David Gheta Disconnects with Chasing Status, and we've written this
one together. This is just me and her as well,
So it's really nice to have to have some history
with her, somebody I love so much, and to actually
make this record with Sonny work. He jumped on the record,

(02:47):
we sent him, We sent him the record and he
kind of changed the production entirely and we fell in
love with it as soon as we heard it and
we had to have him on the record. So it
feels really special to be over in Australia, in Sonny's motherland,
in the homeland, Yes, with a record out that I'm
really hoping we'll do bits over.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Here, Yeah, I think so. I mean, at your concert
on the weekend, everyone went off when you performed it.
It was epic. But you asked, sort of the queen
of collabs and features, you know, especially in dance music,
how does it actually work? Do you just send it
away and go here, have have a heck at it
and see what happens, or do you have a mindset
of what you want it to sound like?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
The collaborations come about differently, so some people just add
their name on a record, some people do a bit
of production. Some people I've written with in the room
and it's come out with the with the feature on.
You know, it really depends. I think it's been an
interesting one for me with features because I started off

(03:49):
as the featured artist, you know, and it took me
some time to be able to get enough traction to
have these DJ's feature on my record track.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, you put your name first, and it's kind of
like they want to work with you now.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Yeah, And that's taken me about ten years to get
to that point. And I think the next step for
me now is to be able to have my own
records without anybody featuring.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, I was gonna say, is that sort of the
nixt kind of plan. I mean twenty twenty three, you
had an incredible year, some of those headline performances and awards,
and you were even on a TV series helping young
stars come through. Where do you want to see this year? Go?

Speaker 3 (04:31):
I have got another album coming out and I would
love I would love that to be a big album.
I've got an arena tour in the UK which is
nearly sold out. I think it's like ninety five percent sold.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Oh my god, that's entire Yeah, that was crazy for me.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
I would love We're going to Europe and doing my
first other European headline run, which I'm hoping does really
well in terms of tickets. We're going back over to
America and then hopefully coming back over here as well
and doing some more bits over here.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I just like this year. I would love World the
Nation And.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Of course, yeah, I mean why not. Isn't that just
on the resolution life exactly?

Speaker 3 (05:07):
And And you know, I turned thirty next month and
getting married this year. It's and I'm just hoping that
everything slops into place.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
And you've got a lot on if we're talking wedding,
birthday travel, do you get downtime?

Speaker 2 (05:21):
No?

Speaker 1 (05:21):
No, Okay, what's a stupid question.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
What am I talking about downtime? When I'm retired?

Speaker 1 (05:26):
We don't need to do that for a long long time. Now,
you are on a lot of these dance anthems the
album that's coming out. Are we sticking in this genre
or we potentially like you? I'm honestly going to say,
you have one of the most powerful voices and its
beautifully tonal, like live I've ever heard. So I'm like,
is it ever a chance that you kind of delve
into different genres or you like dances my heart and

(05:49):
my soul?

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yeah, I would definitely say, Like I think after the
first album, which I did more sort of pop records on,
I definitely feel like this next album I wanted more
deeper rooted in dance music. So I've been working with
some incredible people. I do have a song on there
that is just piano and vocal.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
I can't work.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
That's so exciting. I heard that video of you singing
in the beautiful New Zealand mountain range and I was like,
we need some of this, we need a little bit
of stroke.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah, there's definitely one of them on there, and yeah,
I mean right now I'm doing dance music, and I
absolutely love dance music, and I also love being an
act an artist in the dance world that isn't a DJ,
that isn't a producer with the band, it's I'm front
and center, and I'm kind of giving people a hybrid

(06:41):
experience of something that they would go and see and
pop music, but giving them a dance you know, a
dance music experience. And I want to see I want
to see how far I can run with it and
see how many people want to come on board, and
see if I can take it.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Global this year.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Do you have a dream of who you'd want to
come on board? If we're talking like dream Colair.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
I think Calvin Calvin Harris would be a dream of
mine to do. I don't know whether he I don't
know what his problem is.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
What is his problem? If I will not reach out Calvin,
we'll put this up and be like bro slide into
the DM.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, it's fine, whatever, big deal.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Well, if you see this Calvin Harris on the off
chance Bicky wants a colab, then it's going to be
bloody good.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Yeah, we should try something, at least at least give
me a chance.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Oh, that would be epic one quick question. I was
watching some of your previous interviews and there was one
last year that there was one question that has been
plaguing my mind. And you were flying to an Ireland
for an eleven week residency and you're trying to get
your dog over there. Yes, and you were trying to
get a private jet for your dog. Did you do it?

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Did you really?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Oh my god, the biggest, like like celebrity movie before.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yeah. Now listen, Yeah, this is how I justify its blue.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Wait wait, wait, yeah, because.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
I feel bad. I feel bad because it's not me
at all. It's not my flex at all.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
No, but it's your dog, but it's.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
My baby girl.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
And also Jonas Blue has a swimming pool in his
garden with his own logo at the bottom of his pool.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Okay, yeah, so we're on the stage.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
If I want to get a fricking plane with my
dog on it, and then I'm going to do it
well deserved. Listen, if Jonahs wants to sell his house
in six months, who wants a JB.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Paul Justin Bieber Ah, We have thought about us, but no, agreed.
The logo is a huge.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Yeah, we were thinking of like we were having this
conversation and I was like, you'd have to get like
John and Barbara in to buy the house.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Two very common names. I feel like you'd actually find
a good John and Barbara.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Like the whole thing is like I think his house
is painted blue.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Oh okay, we're really pushing the boat here.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Yeah, he's got a coffee machine and all his coffees
are listed as like Jonahs blue themed, so it's like
not a coup of Joe, it's a couple of j
Jonah Yeah, which I think is.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Kind of genius. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
I guarantee he listens to his music and repeating the house.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
So so yeah, I got a little I got. I say,
I got a little I got. I got a jet
for the dog. And she was good as gold. And
there was a couple of bits where I was like, look,
because her name is Piggy, terrible to lose around a
police station, but it's really bad that's happened before. But
like little pig was with us and I put her

(09:28):
on my lap and I was like, Bibby, look look
outside and pointed to the window when we were up
in the air, and she looked down and you could
see a little face like, oh my god, and then
she got off a big anxiety shake and then she
curled up and went to sleep.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
For the whole journey stunning, she got the experience of everything.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Yeah, we're going.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
To finish up because I know I've only got you
for a very short amount of time. It's called the
celebrity name game on where you you say a celebrity's name,
So we're gonna use you Bickie Hill okay, and you
rhyme to the last name like a different profession. So
it was pretty big on TikTok and it would be
something like Bicky Hell. She joined George Foreman is now
Bicky Grill, right, okay, So I'm gonna start and then

(10:06):
we're gonna go back to back until someone can't rhyn Okay.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
I've got I've only prepared. Okay, fine.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Bicky's playing soccer and she didn't score. Bicky nil.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Becky became a drug dealer. She's Becky Pill.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Okay, Yeah, okay, we started strong. Bicky is working at
a cash register. Bicky till uh.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Becky started growing pickles. She's Becky Dill.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
That was good. Bicky can breathe underwater. Bicky gill uh.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Becky started up in ice bar. That's Becky Chill.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Bickie has a florist with only one flower, Bicky Daffodil.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Becky started up her own theme park. That's Becky thrill.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
No, you're too good at Bickie Biggie Bickie ones. You've
been listening to The Cater Breakfast.
