Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, it's definitely too late to say Happy New Years now,
isn't it what you always arguing when the statue on
it runs out? But we haven't seen you yet this year,
Premier Roger Cooks, So happy.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
New Years.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
No more now. We were just talking about your Christmas show.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
That's the last time we saw you.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Oh okay, so to be its.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Great to be back now.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Is there any chance Parliament could pass something blocking any
more days over forty this summer?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Because I have had enough.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Look and in Parliament yesterday you can feel that everyone
is just over it right, Yes, this has been such
a hot summer.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Oh it has.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
The next couple of days will be a little bit
of reprieve. I hope it hangs around, because well, we all.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Are, we all are, and you can't. You've a dressed
code to adhere to. And I see you on the
news and everything and I think, oh my god, it's
forty five degrees out there and you're still in a
long sleeve shirt and a suit and it's you know,
it's not fair.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Well, I'm trying to get away from wearing the tie
to every press cons Yeah, I did this one with
the PM yesterday. So the bosses in town, right, you
dress up, yeah, put a suit and tie on.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
It was the hottest morning. It's just ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
But as I said, hopefully it gets a bit cooler
from here where we're trying to obviously manage the summer,
the summer risks, the bushfires. Yeah, you saw that horrible
incident in Bebro Lake yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
That was really scary and gwella the other night. I
mean it was really close, really scary there.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
But also but don't forget, you know, while we're suffering
from you know, a heat wave here, fatigue in the Kimberley,
they've got floods. Yeah, welcome to Western Australia.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
While we said that to the Prime Minister this week
with federal cabinet seating. So you've had a very very
busy week or so, haven't you. You seem to have been everywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
It's like having the relatives in. Yeah, there was so
much activity.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
It was great to have the PM and his team here,
the third time that they've come here during this this
term of government. The PM has come to Western Australia
more time than the last three pms.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Because your spare room at your place is so nice, ye.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Look, so it's fantastic to have their support and it
was again really pleasing to see the PM just re
emphasize and recommit to our fair share of the GSC
and we're going to be working together to support our
nickel industry and the critical minerals. And we had a
couple of great announcements the PM talking about the continuation
of fee free tapes in twenty twenty four. That means
(02:32):
that that's so far benefit of run about forty thousand
Western Australians. And in addition to that, we had the
great announcement yesterday for the development of our rent to
build to rent facility in per Street in North Perth. Again,
just as much we can do in this housing space
is so important. We want to continue to relieve the
pressure on our housing industry.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Most two things are kind of connected. That thing is
a great initiative.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Absolutely, we need more carpenters, We need more trade or electricians.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Great, we build it now.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
You build it, they will come, but we need to
build it.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Building.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
You know, you mentioned about the Prime Minister coming really regularly,
more so than historically Prime Minister's coming to town. We
probably don't want to underestimate just how important it is
to have that opportunity for you, for the government to
have you know, his side right there in the room
with you.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
You know, you've got phone, you got zoom, you got all.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Of that, but it's it is important to catch up
in real time person.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
It's all about face time and it's style by actually
another tech.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
But the real strength of this is that his entire
team comes to town, they moved through the community, They
hear about the problems, they hear about the aspirations, and
because of that we have better government as a result.
You've also seen today there will be annnouncement around the
development of our naval construction industry in Western Australia, which
is part of our diversified WA strategy. We will be
(04:09):
one of the key construction zones for the building of
our new light frigate fleet. That means thousands of jobs
and will continue to develop that South metropolitan area where
you see our critical minerals and battery battery manufacturing industry.
You'll see big range of personnel going to Rockingham and
(04:31):
other parts of the Southwest corridor of the metropolitan area
because that will need people to help build these.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Ships for the future.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Absolutely now the Attorney General John Quigley. A what a life,
what a career. Oh wow, I'm already thinking Richard Roxbury
are playing in the miniseries because it has been it
has been quite a career. If not with that its
controversy at times, but he's decided he's pulling a pin.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Look and he said twenty three years in parliament, twenty
four by the time we get to the next election.
And as you as you say, he's a phenomenon and
he's been by far and away the best Attorney General we've
ever had. Over sixty pieces of legislation that he's taken
through the Parliament. That includes a voluntary assisted dying legislation
which was a huge help to me too. He was
(05:13):
a great, great support during COVID nineteen when we're trying
to make sure our borders weren't torn down by people
like CLIVEE.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Palmer.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
He's done some great work in family and domestic violence,
all those areas.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
He's made such a huge impact.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
On issues that went on at the time as well.
You know, the man was not the man had some
serious health issues.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
This is a guy he's been through cancer. Yes, while
being in parliament, he's done an amazing job.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
He has done an amazing job. Well, we hope the
next one could be just as good. I'm just on
a lighter note. You can't even though she's not playing here,
you can't get away from all the talk about Taylor Swift, a.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Bit of someone who's not in town.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Such were talking about all the tenuous links.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I got an email from a dentist this morning asking
if I wanted to do an interview about Taylor Swift's teeth.
Said no, thank you. What the people are loving the
concerts and she's bringing joy to a lot of people.
That's fantastic. What's the best concert you've ever been to?
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Look, we had Coldplay last year. Not a huge Coldplay fan,
but that was that. That was that was pretty cool. Look,
I can remember back that I'm really going to show
my age. No, this is what we want you you
two at the entertainment. That must have been one of
the one of the best simple minds as well back
then Town Tonight.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah they are.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
I don't know if you remember these, but we're probably
the ninety six FM concerts. Of course, we had Australian
Cruel moving pictures in the church.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
They were fantastic nights because everyone was just really concert
that it ends.
Speaker 4 (06:56):

there's going to be thousands.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Awesome, loving it and hundreds of millions of eyeballs will be.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Watching Perth for that.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
That's that's another important part and we continue to promote Perth,
Western Australia. That's an amazing place to come, even if
you're not digging, at least finish it is.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
I'm the first person to spruit Perth.
