Speaker 4 (00:31):
Beaten by Saint Kilda on Saturday afternoon. Now the Eagles,
it feels a bit damned if you do and damned
if you don't at the moment because it was the
youngest team the club has fielded in a long long time.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Now.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
On the one hand, this is what people seem to
have been crying out for. They've been saying, play the kids,
give them the experience. But on the other hand, you
can't then turn around and expect this amazing performance.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
It's from a team that has yet to have the experience.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Correct.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, so yeah, yes, yeah, it's a good way to
sum it up. Yeah, very good way to sum it up.
You do need experience, you need you do need a
lot of senior heads around, a lot of younger players
in order to help them, especially any one way to
get the experience well exactly exactly, So games under the belt,
they do, they do, they do. And we've spoken about
(01:25):
it over the years now I reckon a couple of
years that the more that we can blood the kids,
the better because the quicker we can get them to
sixty seventy games and the better they'll be. But until
that point, obviously, it takes a lot of time and
a few years of hard work and some hard losses
until we get to that point where you know, they're
confident their bodies, they're confident in understanding the game, and
(01:47):
you know, they start to get it a bit better
and they can read the play a lot quicker because obviously,
coming from state football to NFL, the pace is just,
you know, miles faster, everything miles faster. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Decision making yeah exactly, that you've got yeah exactly, you've
got no time. And yeah, the physicality of it is
just another level too. So at a young age you
feel the knox a lot later in the season then
you would as a senior player. Even though you still
feel it play you're able to get through. But when
you're that younger age as well, it's so you can
(02:21):
really mount up. So but yeah, it's it's still an
exciting time to be a part of the football club.
We've still got a lot of talents on the list
and we'll get more talent, and yeah, we're building towards
something that hopefully in you know, five ten years time,
maybe earlier as well, three years, two years, who knows.
Things can change very quickly in footy. You know we're
competing for finals and playing for football.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
You mentioned that even as a senior, play feeling that
the crunches, especially if it's in the next region. This
last week game because to place re A I in
the studio, how much that had hurt and you're a
bit awkward last week?
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, No, it was painful, very painful. The crunch, the crack,
the pope everything. It was for the whole week. I
couldn't I couldn't turn my neck, I couldn't twist, couldn't
do anything.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
So I tried to get through on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
I just just couldn't move, couldn't move any slight jolts
or anything like that. We just sent a yeah, a
bit of a bit of a nerve spine. Yeah, down
that region yeah, nice little likes. Yeah, a nice little
sharp sort of pain through that, and it just wasn't fun.
So I thought i'd, you know, probably best to give
it another week.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, like a ball of bubbles. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
As I said, I felt like Derek Zoolander and I
honestly couldn't could not turn left there.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
For no, definitely. So yeah, there is staged in games
where you will need to have to turn left. Yeah.
I was struggling last week.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
You're a paintable picket. Yeah, exactly, exactly weakness yea.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Yeah, So but now I'm feeling a lot better, which
is yeah positive.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Oscar Allen had to feel some really tough post camp
questions about the about the tea.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
It was hard to watch four things only just come
back in.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, But unfortunately, when when we put out performances like that,
you're open to criticism and people are going to have
potshots and they're going to have their opinions. And as
we've spoken about over the years, the only way that
you can stop as by winning game to football, so
and shutting people up, and that's the only way you
can do it. So, yeah, the way that we're going
(04:24):
at the moment, we're obviously opening ourselves up to a
lot of opinions and unfortunately that's not the space.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
That we want to be in.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
But that's reality, and we need to get better and
we're owning that and we know that, and you know,
things just don't change over the course of a day.
We're building and I think from last year we've improved,
but so was the competition, so we need to improve
even more again. So yeah, yeah, it's as I said,
(04:52):
it's still an exciting time to be the part of
the football club.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
There's still a lot of work that needs to be
done and.
Speaker 6 (04:56):
It doesn't matter how well you're going, you still have
to do those things. And media still happens. Se you
still happen. The club still has a social media department.
They have to go up and it always looks better
with a win. Winners are grinners.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
But you've got a.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Copy, Yeah exactly, And yeah, I think you know, my
old man would bless him. He would always say that,
you know, you get a copy on the chin and
move on, accept it and be honest and get on
with it.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
So nothing beats hard work at the end of it.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
All right, we're doing just that, moving on Saturday Night's
the Derby, second one of the year. The Eagles won
the last one. But I mean there's no doubt you
do go into this one as underdogs.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
Yeah we do. Yeah, yeah, we go into every game
at the moment underdogs, but.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Probably went into that one as underdogs too.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So yeah, yeah, it's yeah, they're going to come out fire,
and they're obviously going to have a target on our
backs because of last game and.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
How it all and who won the middle last time.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, so no, look, it's it's going to be a
tough game. All Derby is a tough Every game at
the moment feels like it's a hard game. Just will
we'll wear at But Derbies are always that extra bit tougher, pick.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
The extra mate, No, I know that, Yeah, I know that.
But then on top of that too.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
As well, how things unfolded previously. It's they're going to
come out viron and they are playing some bloody good.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Football and they want some want some percentage.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yeah, and it's fantastic to see.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Okay, yeah, as much as it's you know, you get jealous, Yeah,
seeing them obviously being successful in winning games of football.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
And you want that. It's good to see.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yeah, it's great to say, uh yeah, and hopefully they
can you know, well other than this week. Hopefully hopefully
they can. They can go far into September and do
what they need to do. It'd be really good for
the football club.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, absolutely, it's the crowd will be huge.
Speaker 6 (06:51):
You wore a mess. Yeah, people coming out in force.
As we know, see a lot of merch around, you
know when winners a grinners. As I say, it's a
lot of free merchant out there. So the fans will
be adding forced makes it even louder, but not necessarily
for you guys. But there's still be plenty of Eagles.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
Eagles, but do go to doctors, Yeah they do, they
do so, and our fans are very loud.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
We've got the best fans in the world in Australia,
so they'll be there. Even though they'll be limited, they
will be nice and loud. So it's yeah, it's going
to be a cracking game and it's probably a good
game for us as well to kind of reset because
we know it's going to be very tough, very tough
contested game.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Along with yourself. Wadman and dug are in the mixt
to return but what about Gov. What's the update on him?
Speaker 2 (07:29):
I think pending, Yeah, pending a fitness test this week,
so all depends while get over what.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Yeah, yeah, so Garv is probably one of the toughest players.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
I don't understand how it hasn't won like break yeah yeah, yeah,
but I don't think he has. But I still don't
understand how if he has or he hasn't, and should
probably do this year, but he should win the A
f l P A.
Speaker 6 (07:59):
He goes, takes all his intercepting marks, don't necessarily see
how much danger he puts himself in almost every time.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
Fearless, Yeah, fearless. So yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
The way that he can torts his body sometimes as well,
it's just up in the air is just yeah, it's
it's scary and it's yeah, he is fearless.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Yeah, fearless.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Contorting that being he's a big man.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
Yeah, he's a big boy. Yeah, he's a big boy.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
And there's some big boys of course, if not bigger,
so yeah, yeah, some of the collisions are yeah, horrific.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
That's crazy. You don't risk coming back too soon. Yeah, yeah, Alex,
oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Exactly, that was exactly that said.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
We know you're looking for a coach.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Of course.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Dean Cox has ruled himself out. Yeah, I think he
was wish list number one. Josh Carr has also ruled
himself out. Ken Hinckley's name is in the mix now.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Yeah, yeah, something at the start of the year. I
don't know whether that's coming for you guys.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Just trying to avoid that distraction though. Let them play
and we'll just get on with.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah exactly. But players we don't don't.
I don't really feel like we have much of an important.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
But it can still be a distraction, yes and no about.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
It, Yes and no.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
It's yeah, yeah, I think that's more of a board
thing and the players we just kind of get on
with what we need to do.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
So department just move on.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah yeah, yeah, so yeah, it's pretty much where it's
at at the moment. Yeah, We'll wait and see. I
love Scuey, I've got I've got a really good relationship
with Scoey. So yeah, I'm excited for what we can
produce and hopefully build towards towards the back end of
this year.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Is it a possibility he could stay Absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Yeah, absolutely it is.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I think Yeah, you're simply not to you throw your
hat in the ring, and I think I think it will,
but again I'm not one hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Sure sure, but there'll be There'll be few coaches as well.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Having an audition now, is anything he wants to Yeah, yeah,
yeah there.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Is, yeap, So there will be a few coaches in.
But yeah, that's that's all for the board to handle.
Speaker 6 (10:09):
Yeah, could we Is there any chance, mate, at this
age that you're at now, that we could pretend it's
nineteen seventy eight and you play a coach next.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Year bringing that back? Did you do it all the
media during Yeah they're playing as well.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Oh yeah, the conflict of interested.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Halfway for a quarter to think of what am I
going to say?
Speaker 2 (10:29):
You go on to match committee and you just put
your name straight on the bat regardless of anything.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Yeah, yeah, I mean this week, don't worry.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
They use the stress with the cigarette at half times.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Hear about that.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
And you get your form got out of your pocket.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Yeah, funny. How's twenty years they changed the oranges?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Yeah, wow, always go the lollies mate, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
