Women's Cancer dot org dot au. Danny Bremner is an
ambassador for the Walk for Women's Cancer, and she's with
us this morning. Thank you so much for coming in
to chat further about this amazing cause.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
How did you become an ambassador?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I got a friend call from Kelly, who organizes a walk,
and she asked me if I would be open to
doing it, which I said yes. Once I did get
dinosa breast cancer, I always said that if I could
help others by sharing my story, That's what I'd like
to do. And this was the perfect opportunity.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Say so, what is the Walk for Women's Cancer? What
are we raising money for?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So, the walk is for women's cancer research at the HARRYS.
Perkins Institute of Medical Research. It helps to discover kind
of treatments and better outcomes for women fighting breast and
ovarian cancer.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Right, women's cancers, checky bits, ladies, We've been through this
just recent Yeah, we talked quite in depth, thirty two k's.
It's it's not for the fainthearted. But you don't have
to do it all in one day, do you.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
No, you don't. So you can either do the whole
thirty five k's on the day, which is what I'm doing,
or you can.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Do heavens five k's a day for the.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Six days leading up to it, and then you come
along in the morning and do the last five k's
on the day with everybody else, and you get to
celebrate at the start. We have a huge party in
huge breakfast. Yeah, and afterwards it's amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
You have a Yeah, you've done it before, haven't you?
And didn't you just tell me it took like about
seven hours? Seven hours.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yes, there's a lot of training.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
You have to get a dodgy ankle or something.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Else you cannot do without training yet built up.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
And mum's doing as well, Yeah she is.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
So this will be the second year that mum's joined.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
She's doing the five k's each day and the final
five with you on the day that past.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Well, now, what are the rewards and incentives?

Speaker 2 (02:02):
So the minimum they like you to raise is five
hundred dollars and once you raise that five hundred dollars,
everybody gets a T shirt to wear on the day.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
There's also lots of things like you can you post
a picture up and share on your social media is
and you get certain things like sun cream, drink bottle. Okay,
there's lots of incentives. Good.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, nice to get the merchant water.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Your story and mum story is quite incredible with the
timing as well, isn't it. The fact that you're both
walking is brilliant.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
It's amazing.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yes, yeah, what is with the honey bees? The honey
bees in this event?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
So two Perkins researchers made international headlines when they discovered
that venom from honeybees was found to destroy chiple negative
breast cancer and some of the most hard to treat
cancer cells get out.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
And yet that doesn't surprise me. The bees.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
It's the bees. The beers are our lifeline. Yeah, that's
where people wear, do you.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
And this is why they're raising money. So the weather
discover honey bees are just making us honey.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Of course, your crown money is raised for you much
needed research.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, you got to protect those bees with everything we got.
Now we've got to protect that research when you're walking
that far, do you end up in groups and what
do you talk about? Anything and everything?

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, I already have a team that I walk with anyway,
so we do send to walk together. But yeah, there's
people along the whole way and you do chat and
all the volunteers really spur you to keep walking. And
it's just a fantastic fundraiser.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Well, the sense of achievement also at the end must
be off the scale. I reckon, I reckon, you'd be
buzzing on that sense of achievement for days.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
When you cross that finishing line, it's so amazing. You
get presented in metal and there's a rosebush that you
get to take home to plan to.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Yes, And it's funny you say about the volunteers, because
I've seen this with the Harry Perkins blike one as
well the ride. Those volunteers are incredible. They stand out
in the sun all day and help them changes of
directions and all the rest of it really encourage you.
They're really pumping you up.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
You throw it. Well, it is Saturday, May the third,
What is there enough time now to train for.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
If you haven't already been training.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
And all the information is at Wark for Women's Cancer
dot org, dot au. Thank you for your service of
the day, Daddy.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
It's amazing day for coming in today.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Thank you very much
