Barra was back in with Smiley this morning chatting to Hayden Young from the Freo Dockers where they talked about many things including Hayden's first game back with the team, Josh Treacey's amazing game, the tribunal decision about Patrick Voss and Luke Ryan's fitness and will he be fine for this weekends game against The Demons. Barra also asked Hayden about training at the MCG today which is a first for the team.

Hayden Young Wells from seven years Adrian Barratch Barer, Hayden Welcome,
good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Get a young e. How are you mate?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Very well mate?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
How are you? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Well done my friend, A great return to footy. How'd
you pull up? That's what everyone wants to know. Are
you ready to go back into the midfield full time?
Two goals aideen possessions.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Well done, brother, well.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Done, thank you? Yeah pulled up? Well Yeah. The plan
was to I suppose manage my minutes in the midfield.
So I spent probably a little bit more time down
four than what I'm used to, but I still feel
like I was to have a bit of impact down there,
and I think I suppose over the next few weeks, yeah,
those minutes will be adapted as I sort of I

(01:08):
suppose built into the year and building to my conditioning.
So yeah, that was always the plan going in. And yeah,
I really felt like when I was down forward, I
still had impact on the game, and that's what I'll
continue to try to do even if I s been
a bit more time in the midst of going forward.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Mate, It's a great plan to play a game in
the waffle and then come back and hit your straps
straight away.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Brilliantly done.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Hey what about Barossa, mate, the Barossa Valley Oval at Lindock.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
How good was that?

Speaker 1 (01:36):
It was actually unreal, unreal sort of death good facilities.
We had a nice, nice hot day, Yeah it was.
It was pretty pretty hot, which we're not well, which
really used to I suppose it sort of helps, but no,
it was beautiful to be honest. And we stayed out
there in the Barossa and yeah, it was woke up
in the morning and the summers rising over the hills,

(01:58):
over the vineyards, and it was actually quite quite beautiful spot.
So I think all the fans enjoyed it. We had
a well, we had a packed out crowd for for
the capacity and that was a great day.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Hayden, fantastic Smiley here, I thought Josh Tracy was just spectacular.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Six goals.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
He was unstoppable.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, he was, he was, he was, he was up
and about. I think there was one one sage in
the first quarter when I was playing forward and I
let up at the at the footy and I thought,
I'm out here. I'm going to get kicked too. I
didn't have anyone I'm in, but I think shoe Bolt
just kicked it over my head to Josh Tracy in
and one on one and he marked it. So I
think everyone knows who's up and about at the moment,

(02:38):
and I've sort of got to earn my stripes down
forward line before I start getting he's a big target.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Did you have a crack at him?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Later?

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Again?

Speaker 3 (02:47):
And I was open there, used me. I know JT's
on fire. He could win the Common Medal, couldn't he?
I reckon he's a big show.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Well he is. Yeah, He's. One thing that's really good
about JT is when he does have a shot really
from anywhere, you're pretty confident kick because he's got a
beautiful set shot. He kicks through, kicks through the ball.
It's pretty yeah, like it's pretty often you're seeing kick
him at goalpost height from anywhere inside fifties. So yeah,
he gives us a lot of confidence when he's got
the ball in his mitts and we love seeing him

(03:17):
what he's doing.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Mate, I was laughing last night.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
You probably have got this feedback as well when VOSSI
went to the tribunal.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
And I know you can't really comment on that.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
He coppt three weeks for that striking charge on Nick Loston,
but your bloke's tried to introduce a plastic surgeon. They said,
we want to bring in a plastic surgeon to talk
about nose jobs and broken noses and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I know, well, I don't know what I was watching.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
And then they said, because sometimes a broken nose can
be very mild, and I was thinking, I've had a
broken nose.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
They're not very mild, are they? Young?

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, I'm not sure I haven't broken the nose, but
I can't imagine. Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
No, I know you can't comment on that, but yeah
we lost Voss, you mate, going well to that goal
he scored. We just shrugged off his opponent and then
snapped one and then he charged off like gout, gout.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
What's amazing.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh, it's hilariously absolutely love it. He's he's an absolutely beast,
particularly in the gym. He's by far the strongest bloke
at the club. And yeah, we love when he brings
his strength out on the field, and we love when
he celebrates, really because he just brings so much passion
and energy to us. So it's a shame that we're
not going to have him out there for the next
three weeks. But I'm sure because.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
You know what's happened.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Last time he celebrated, he got JT poked him in
the eye and nearly injured their best player. Right, So
the coach said to him, listen, mate, when you celebrate,
do it on your own. So now he runs like
seventeen minutes away from everyone.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Isn't that how it works, Yankie, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
We got a try to avoid contact. He's just got
to try. We've got to try to catch him. That's
the truth.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
It's like a Premier League or something. Hey tell us,
let's get a bit technical for one moment. Luke Ryan
subbed out three quarter time ongoing shoulder problem.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Is he okay?

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yeah, he's fine, Yeah, no, he's all good. I think
that was just a tactical call that the game was
sort of I suppose to look done and dusted, and
we had Dudley on the bench who thought could bring
us a little bit of us for speed and energy
in the last quarter, and I think it was just
a smart call to rest up, looky.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
And one for me for the news tonight. If you
don't make mind, mate, we're going to roll tape here.
I believe you're getting a rare opportunity to train on
the home of football, the MCG. That must be pleasing,
and what an opportunity to get ready for the game.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Yeah, it's awesome. It's pretty rare. We only get on
the G a couple of times a year, so if
we had to training on it today, it will be great.
And for a few of our young boys that haven't
haven't trained there or played there, it'll be a great experience.
Bruce Murphy Reid and Isaiah Dudley, I'm sure they'll enjoy
the experience and we're going to soak it up.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Just to explain that further, they don't train hardly at
all on the MCG.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
It's like Sacred Earth basically.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
So to actually get out there normally just get to
walk around, don't you young and just have a look
and stuff.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
But this time you can actually train and you're right, Dudley.
He'll be looking around and go, oh goodness, this look
at this is how big this space?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
You know what I mean, because it takes a while
to get used to it and how wide it is
and how he can get lost on the wings and
all that sort of stuff.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, no, it'd be a great experience. And yeah, as
you said, it is very rare. Usually we're training on
some random over in Melbourne, so this is pretty nice.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
A couple of other ones Nat Fife, did he Sammy,
do you touch base with the great Man when he's
injured or just let him go? And because he'll probably
miss a month, I think it's a moderate tear of
his hammy. But knowing him, he's not going anywhere. Everyone's saying, oh,
you should retire or maybe he'll retire. There's no way
he'll hang in there. He wants to be part of
it and he wants to help you in the back

(06:48):
half of the season.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yeah, buddy eyes, Yeah it is.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
It is.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
I suppose frustrating for that and we're all feeling fine,
but yeah, no, we're pretty confident that he'll he'll have
this in the belloty. Did he get back out there?
And yeah, well he's back in Perth at the moment,
so we'll give him a couple of days just to
get his head around there, but no doubt when we
get back he'll be straight back into it.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
I think I've got one more for you too.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I just read an article about Sean Darcy and you
know he went to Katar to get sort of looked
after by the experts over there.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
They've interviewed the bloke over there.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
He said that Sean Darcy is now bulletproof for the
rest of his career. His legs and his knees. The
work that he's done it made. That'd give you a
lot of confidence, wouldn't it. And I feel like, go
and have himself and get my knee figure.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
I might have to head over there too. Bulletproof sounds
pretty good. That's great to hear. I think he's return
on the weekend was promising. I think he showed great
signs and you don't think any get better and fitter
and stronger. So we're pretty happy to have him back.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
He'll feel like he's alive. This weekend with Max corn
On Saturday, and do you reckon? You know that Voss's out?
Does that mean Liam Reedy has to play? Or how
do they do who backs up the ruck?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
I'm actually not sure yet. I think there be a
few boys that will fly over this week to either
train with us or prepare. But yeah, I'll have to
wait and say, really, I'll get down the train today
and see who's there. And I suppose the coaches have
a plan.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
And what are you expecting from the Demons? Obviously they're winless,
so they're zero and five. Everyone's saying, Simon Goodwin, the
coach should be sacked.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
If the Doctors beat them their own six, that you
know there's no finals, there's like a little chance to
play finals of your own six. But that makes them
extra desperate, extra dangerous at the g, doesn't it, Yangie?

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Yeah, definitely. Yeah, they've got their backs against the wall.
And I think one thing we've sort of noticed in
their game over the last few weeks is they're actually
getting a lot of inside fifties and opportunities. Is just
they haven't quite capitalized. But you can't allow teams to
keep getting opportunities because you never know it could be
their day and they could capitalize, and we don't want
it to be that against us. So I think that'll

(08:56):
be a focus for us, is you know, getting it
done in the contest and trying to own field position
and sort of limit their opportunities going forward, because it
only takes a good day in the forward half of
them to put on a winning score. So we've got
to be conscious of that.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
I know we're going to let you go because you've
got a head to the G. You have a meeting
in the head to the G. But just Brandon Brennan Cox,
he's revealed, how's this Smiley? We're all dad's here young,
he's not, but we but we can relate to this.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
He's one year old son a low.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, So this is what happens when you're a sports
when you're away and he of course that's when he
starts walking and you know you've missed that, you've missed
that moment, and your wife's got it and you're jealous,
and he's on FaceTime trying to say do it now,
walk on, walk on FaceTime for me, young.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
It's tricky, isn't it when you're a dad? Eh?

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Yeah, it is. I can only imagine why to fly.
But yeah, his little boys. He's a very cute little kid,
and Coffee's on FaceTime to him a fair bit trying
to make convoy. I don't know if Alo is very conversational,
but it's pretty cute to what so I'm sure he'll

(10:05):
be looking forward to get back there.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Twenty times a day. They reckon, smile, he's on face
time with his Hey, good on your young ee.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Good luck mate, I reckon, you'll knock over the demons
and can keep this street going. And you're in the
ape mate, just stay there, brother Sam, like a plan.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Good good luck, getting funeray at the docks and the
d's bounced down. Saturday eleven twenty of the MCG
