Speaker 1 (00:00):
This winter you can join Calve Templari for a festive
night of music mischief and mid year Chier Calve Templary.
Christmas in July and those Boxing Day sales. That's quite
the mouthful is that the Duke of George July eleven
and twelve. Tickets are available through marsh Ticks and the
Christmas Cave is with us. Now, how does.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hey gang Christmas in July.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
And those Boxing Day sales? I feel like I'm going
to be able to buy something if I come.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Well, I feel like you can't do Christmas in July
without having the Boxing Day sales next day? Absolutely know
which show?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Are you going to come to?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Christmas in July or the Boxing Day sales?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
It absolutely with the soundtrack to the sales mater You
a Christmas jumper? Fancy jumper kind of guy? Would you
have one on for the gig?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Well, you know, I like the idea of a Christmas jumper,
but let's face it, every time Christmas comes around it's
about forty degrees. Yeah, you're wearing a jumper. Hence Christmas
in July.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, yes, you're a smart man.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yes, the only time you'll be able to wear them
now will you be singing any Christmas carols.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Yes, I'm definitely going to do some Christmas carols. I
look think of it about it like you know Sabrina
Carpenter's Christmas Special with less a list, you know, celebrities
and more clothing.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Okay, yeah, and no one pulling your hair.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Well yeah, yees yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Well, possibly not clo I'm sure in winter we still
have a total fireband, so maybe maybe it's a fake,
fake chestnut roasting.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, you must have played the Duke of George before that.
Not very cool. Anyone saw raight there a few weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, it's an amazing venue and I've kind of been
back there again and again because it's just such a
great experience playing there, and obviously with Simo Joe, we
don't get to play smaller venues like that. But so
something like a Christmas in July, which is kind of
a variety show that I'm putting on. It's the perfect venue.
You sit down, you get drink, sports your table, and
then you let me entertain you.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Wonderful.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Now you have teased some surprise guests at the show,
and I understand the concept of surprise is to be
surprised on the night. But can you give us any clues?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Well, my only clue is that is it a musical guest.
I mean, you assume that I'm just going to have
musical guests. You don't know that it could be a
guest of any description. So that's my only clue.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Could be a docker, you never know.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
That's a great idea, kicking a football out into the crowd.
Football out into the crowd. Now, that sounds like a
great idea.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
You get Twitter or right down there? Yeah, absolutely, it
sounds good. Sounds good, mate. Have you got a song
that the fans absolutely and you've got a lot of them.
The fans can't let you leave the building without playing.
Is it one that they just know? Sorry, boys, but
you can't leave.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, there's a couple. Really we sues. I mean, you know,
if we don't play Black Fingernails, Red Wine, be a riot, Yeah,
we don't play if we don't play from the Sea
or foreign Land. Right, Yeah, there's a couple, and luckily
we don't mind playing them.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
You mentioned foreign Land. We just saw an article recently
about foreign Land being inspired by the passing of Heath Ledger.
Is that a true story.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, it is a tree story. It was like I
kind of wrote that song just after we had played
this big gala in New York called Gooday USA, and
Heath was meant to be one of the guests of
honor and we only got told literally moments as we
were about to walk down the red carpet that he'd
passed away. And we were, you know, you know, quite

(03:34):
quite shocked because he was a young talented guy from Perth,
Western Australia, where we were from, and it turned out
he'd died literally streets away from where I was walking
that afternoon, just as it had stud to snow. So
it was it was one of those kind of very
affecting moments and I just had to kind of write
it all down, and by the time we got back
to person, everyone was like, all right, cav what's what

(03:56):
are we going to write?

Speaker 3 (03:57):
What's that?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Because we're just about to start writing our follow up album,
Black Fingernails, And I was like, well, I've got this.
And it was like a ballad. When I first started.
It was this really quiet, heartbreaking, a minor kind of ballad.
But I'd also, you know, we've been playing in front
of these really big, massive audiences, and so we needed
a big rock and roll song. So we literally got
the ballad and just you know, made it rock and

(04:18):
roll and that's the song.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Just cranked it up. But speaking of losing people to
many of us, Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys as
a songwriter, what effect did that have on you? He's
passing last week.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Well, you know, he was one of the great not
just in his songwriting but in his production as well.
And it's one of those tricky things, you know, as
people get older, you know, you expect that they're going
to pass at some point in time. But he was.
He was a significant talent, and I guess the passing
of him kind of you know, it forms a massive
changing of the guard as far as you know, those

(04:49):
real innovators from that era are starting to pass, and
that's a big deal.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Well, Brian Wilson and sly Stone in the one week
wasn't a good I know, amazing fly.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I just watched the documentary on him.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Actually, I think the one that got mucked up at
the Oscars.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I think Question Yes ironically called Flight Lives. Yes, yeah, yeah,
just what a amazing again innovative but also just in
that way of kind of bringing white people over to
what was happening in black music in a really kind
of cool way where everyone felt involved.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Well, talking of cool cave temporary Christmas in July and
those boxing dour sales, is that the Duke of George
July eleven and twelve. Tickets are available through Mashitiics, but
we have got two double passes to go. If you
would like to be there, give us a call on thirteen,
ten sixty five. We will take callers ten and eleven.
Calv thanks for joining us.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Thank you so much for having us.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Merry Christmas, ye and a merry July Christmas.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Two of you there.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
