Chef extraordinaire Maggie Beer phoned in from the Barossa Valley (lucky her). She chatted to the guys about the rockstar feeling she gets on the MasterChef set, unknowingly flying on the same plane as The Beatles and her mission to raise the standard of food in aged care. Catch Maggie on MasterChef at 7pm this Sunday on Ten.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Master Sheriff continues, I've been loving this series back to win.
It continues at seven o'clock this Sunday on ten and
Maggie Bear is the guest this weekend, direct from the
Barosso Valies. It's a tough life, but someone has to
live it, Maggie. Good morning, Maggie, Maggie this Sunday night.

(00:24):
It's one of the season's most nail biting challenges. It's
the increasing ingredients decreasing time challenges where they start with
ninety minutes with just the under the bench staples, and
as each cluster of ingredients is uncovered, building up the
pantry of what's on offer, the time available to cook decreases.
It's tough, and it's an elimination. Is it tough being

(00:46):
part of the elimination episodes?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
It's always tough being part of the elimination because they're
all sort of floping so much this day in and
they've all got and it's always it's really sad, you know,
someone has that. I hate it when I'm I'm there
on an elimination, and that's sort of.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Because this far we've so fallen in love with them
and we're already were in love with this group, so yeah, no,
it must be to.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yeah, yeah, Hey, Maggie, what's it like when you walk
into the room and what's the It's tough when you
say goodbye to them, when you say hello, They've got
so much love for you and so much admiration. That
must be a wonderful thing.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
It is. It's a real pet put let me tell you.
It's so exciting walking in and you know, I just
have those that middle or so where I feel like
a rock star. He's age. That's a pretty pretty exciting thing,
you know.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Of course, how this Sunday's episode goes this year, there's
a lot of of well it's in the second testants.
They really are. Some of them are fully blown chefs
these days. They've got restaurants and all sorts. Was were
you amazed at the whole new level of their expertise?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yes, there is no doubt. Look, I've always been blown
away by all of those contestants that these who have
had so much experience in sometimes back for the second
or well definitely the second subtims of third Yeah, find
blowing really because also have more confidence, and that doesn't

(02:24):
mean they don't get nervous and I'm sure of themselves,
but I am in awe of their ability. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, you mentioned you feel like a rockstar when you
walk in Baggie. But speaking of rockstar's none bigger than
the Beatles. Is it true that you shared a plan
with the months.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yes, but I was on the I was nineteen years
of age in coming back from christ Church this Sydney
because my parents made me and I was an obedient
child then, and I was on the very back door
and there was a beetle. Men knew there was, and

(03:01):
I didn't know about the until that time because it
was always into classical music. So it was quite an awakening. Wow.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, oh bet gosh, all these people here for me.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Maggie.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
You're on a mission to improve food standards in age
care and inspire older Australians to eat healthy, delicious food
with them. You need to have a chat to my mum.
With the Maggie Beer Foundation, what can you tell us
about that.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I've been working eleven years on this. This is the
twelfth to raise the standard of food in age care,
to give training to the cooks and chefs who work
so hard but without specialized training and often without without
without support. You know there are amazing homes, that there

(03:53):
are homes where food does not have the importance that
it should. For food full of the aromas of fresh
ingredients that will stimulate the appetites of the older residents
and give them joy as well as nutrition is what
I'm headed for.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
That's the perfect combination of joy and nutrition.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Favors says it. All flavors and the aromas. Yeah, I love.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
That so important. That's what gives us the energy to
be part of life. You know, the muscle mass would
the protein, but the delight is something to look forward to.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
That's a pretty good mission to have, Maggie. We thank
you for that, and we look forward to Master Chef
on Sunday night for the increasing ingredients, decreasing time and
it definitely is one of the madder episodes of the year.
Seven o'clock Sunday on ten Lovely to chat to you,
Megganie

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Meggie be aoo is a pleasure, Yes,
