Barra joined the guys to chat all things sport, and it’s been a massive week for retirements in footy. First up, the hero of the Eagle 2018 premiership Dom Sheed retired earlier in the week and then Dockers fan favourite Sonny Walters hung up his boots just yesterday. In classic Barra style he was full of facts - did you know Sonny, Chris Yarran and Nick Nat all grew up on the same street? The Eagle’s eighth debutante Malakai Champion played his first game, which lead the guys to discuss the great sporting names – Tiger Woods, anyone? Barra reckons The Eagles could win this weekend and the guys don’t seem sold on the idea. Wimbledon top seeds are losing in droves and West Coast Fever aim for another win this weekend. Plus, Barra pays respect to Eileen Bond, a huge WAFL fan and supporter of South Fremantle.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's talk sport with the Adrian Barrage.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
When you've got to get work here, you've got to
get into work Clobber.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
Their eight trade stores are everywhere, so when you need
it you can get it or check out worklubber dot
com dot A't you okay?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Great to see you guys. Love that jacket? Lease?

Speaker 4 (00:16):
Thank you?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Is that Foxford faux? That's good?

Speaker 5 (00:22):
I love that big week for retirements of course in
foot of you guys, retirement season.

Speaker 6 (00:28):
Isn't it really we've got seven weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (00:30):
It's not, let's hope not anyway, it's the GOV obviously
we've had. But then Dom, she is not out of
the blue. Once it's June thirty, I think they sort
of that's the time that people will move on because
it must be something to do with the payments.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
I should have mentioned all that.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Anyway, That's the reason the hero of the Eagles twenty
eighteen premiership. Most Eagles fans least can recite the final
play that.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Won the game for West Coast.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
I certainly can we intimately know the five players involved. Incredibly,
there's only one blog left at the club now, Liam
Ryan in that play, yeah, and Willie Riley left and
of course mcgovernor side and so now has Dom Sheed
and of course the play started with it was actually
Bruce who was calling it.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Was McGovern McGovern what a player.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
A player, and then he kicks it to Buddy right,
and then he goes to Ryan and then Brian Taylor
takes over and.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
He goes Ryan with a big mark. It's unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
And then if he kicks the goal when she takes
the Markees, you remember that line, you probably hate it there.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
If he kicks the goal, I think West Coast can
win the Grand Final. Massive she from the boundary. He's
got the most impossible guy. You have to be an
Eagles person get into that.

Speaker 6 (01:52):
And then he gave it to the colleague supporters, didn't he?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Oh yeah, it was unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Anyway, he's been asked about it a million times. You
talk about him in the time when he's in Calgooley,
he doesn't have to buy a beer any pubby goes
into people shouting him.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Still, this is what he had to say to.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
His return right place, right time, and then to be
able to execute an impact, you know, on the big,
biggest day in footy is something I think about every
five minutes.

Speaker 6 (02:21):
Always reminded by someonetes.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah. Who are the other sports people that are remembered
for one single act? The guy that fell over that?
Yeah exactly. Yeah he made that laid down salad. Yeah, Brad,
he made Basil famous.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Kathy Freeman, Leo Barry, you Starry, Trevor Chapel.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, now, Sonny World has he retired yesterday?

Speaker 5 (02:49):
I love that guy. One of the best fellows I've
met at the Dockers. You would be of the same opinion, Clery.
So many moments, so many moments in the that we
can mention. We talked about a few in the toilet before.

Speaker 6 (03:01):
But it's turf talking, said the that's where we were.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
We weren't talking about that.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
I can tell you what goes on, I said, hold
so many lines there, but we won't use them. Look
his finals performances when he pointed to the sky after
he lost his mate Shane Yar enough to King and goal.
Getting sent back to the Waffle in twenty twelve by
Ross Lyne Be who's too overweight and unfit and hanging

(03:31):
out with the wrong blokes, he re emerged.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
A better player.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
The M symbol they used to do after kicking goals
late in his career for Midland and Midvar. So everyone
out there wanted to send a message to the kids,
you can do this too, you know, leaving yourselves. He
grew up at least in Bushby Street in Midvar. Okay,
do you know this story with Nick Natt and Nuie
I do not, and Chris Yarren.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
And they all grew up on the same street, in
the same street.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
They were neighbors, and they used to take Nil bins
and use him as goals, right, And he came wondering out,
what do you do with my bins? And again I
made I'm you know, so and so, and I'm Chris
jar and I want to play footy. Yeah, and so
they got Nick into the footy and they all got drafted.
All three of them got drafted, and all four of
them actually yeah, two of them did unbelievably well. The

(04:19):
rest is kind of history too, great success stories. But
he talked about that. He was so emotional at his
media conference. Is so beautiful. But here's him talking about
growing up in Midland and Midvale and what it meant
to him.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Back into my career, I try to represent Midland, Midval
as much as I can. I brought out the m
over the last couple of years because I know that
my time was coming to an end.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
But yeah, it played a huge part.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
My family still lived there, my friends are still there,
their kids are there, their brothers.

Speaker 6 (04:48):
It's it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
It's a it's unbelievable area, and everyone thinks it's the
bad area, but it's one of the For me, it's
one of the safest places.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
To go back to. Not a dryer in the house
yesterday with no yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
Five times I think he broke down on counted and
I broke down eight. I wanted to mention the Eagles
have got a new debuts on their eighth debutante this week,
so basically they almost played all their kids. His name,
But he's got the world's best name, Malachai Champion. That's
and I was trying to think of better sporting names,

(05:21):
Like there's.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
A guy called will Power. Yes that in the Indy
Cars you saying Bolt.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
Yes, it helps to be fast Tiger Woods. Also Richard Champion, Right,
what's going on? But we're going a new champion because
Richard Champion played up there in Brizy, didn't he.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, this this guy could be really good.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
Tyson Fury and last night is the Bulldogs.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
There was a guy called No you mentioned that guy's name.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
The Bulldogs beat North Melbourne overnight in Liver's two fiftieth game.
It was Centillari centenary celebrations for North and they rolled
out Dennis Agan, remember the old coach, and he did
the pre matching address on the oval to the team moving,
and it was you know, it's war without Oh it
was unbelieve. It was war without weapons. Boys, It's war
without weapons.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
History lesson, wasn't it.

Speaker 5 (06:13):
Dayne Carey was there. Wayne was just jumping out of
his skin. He was ready to play.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
He's looking for Jacko.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
And it worked.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
They led it a quarter at times, so that was great.
And tonight Eagles played tonight at the stadium.

Speaker 8 (06:25):
To night football for the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Is it sixteen or six twenty? I can't remember.

Speaker 8 (06:29):
Ten six ten, and the other one's five twenty.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
That's right, I can't. I'm playing Collingwood. But I reckon
the Eagles can win. The Giants are beaten up. I
reckon the Eagles can win, and if they do, they'll
do free massive favor because.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
Six six, six twenty, Yeah, yes, it'd be a good
jacket for the footy.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Actually, you can borrow it.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
The cricket was on overnight of course, the second Test
in Grenada, that is correct. It was playing on an
island and very sweet can drive around it in five hours.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Oh there's no one there. Australia v. West Indies don't
know what's going on.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
But as he's bowled out for two eight six, Alex
Carrey made sixty three bo webs the sixty Steve Smith
came back. Our man Josh English got dropped. Steve Smith
came back from a finger injury. He only made three
and in bizarre scenes. It's unbelievable that there's a big siteboard,
you know, and they always get a bit weird when
someone walks around near the siteboard.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
There was a little kid, he was about.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Three, wandered away from his parents and you would have
thought that he'd set fire.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
To the joint the way Steve Smith.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Was car okay, even his back and then he got
out the next ball he's got distracted.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah, well I don't know. He got himself and a
tears sounds like.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
I like some of his idiosyncrasies, but sometimes I think
mate's little down ticking going on.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
He's about three thousand years old. He's still caring on
like that anyway.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
So sporting to Wimbledon, the Wimbledon, Wimbledon.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
I was gonna say, there's a bloke I know who
calls it Wimbledon.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
I know there's all one you know, women.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Wimbledon.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Wimbledon cartage eight top ten seeds men and women knocked
out early, which ranks is the most Grand Slam in
the open area where the have lost their seeds. So
Novak Jogovi's a big chance. Dreams of putting an exclamation
point on his career. Wants to get past Margaret Caught
on twenty four Grand Slam titles. So if he does,
that'll be remarkable. So we'll see what happens there. Our

(08:36):
favorite team, West Coast Fever going for eleven straight wins,
eleven straight wins, a red rush. I love the They're
our favorite team. They play the Giants at ac Arena
on Sunday. I wanted to mention Eileen Bond, the big
red Yeah, huge waffle fan I saw on Saturday at
the at Freemantlevor with a great supporter of South from

(08:58):
Antal one hundred years and at that club, her family,
so makes you rest in peace.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
And then that terrible story the Liverpool soccer players, just
it's every fathomable.

Speaker 8 (09:11):
Angle you look at it from.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
It's horrible, it's rocked. Everybody hasn't.

Speaker 8 (09:16):
Josha he's twenty eight. His brother was in the car
with him, who's twenty five. Both killed. The guy got
married two weeks ago, kids, three tiny little kids, married
to his long term partner. But he has three little
kids with a huge wedding. You just look like the
happiest day in everyone's life when you look at the footage,

(09:36):
and then two weeks later you just don't know what
is You've got to live. And every bluetire overtaking another
car and burst into plates.
