Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's time to talk sport with Adrian Barrage.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
If there is such a thing as a barrizone, we've
just entered it. Thank you, sir.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Yeah, welcome to the barrizone. I can see that can
not happening look that way, my friend.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'm well for a Friday, long weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
I just I just realized it's a long weekend. We
don't have the men television.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
No hard working people in show business.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Just because there's always the news at six o'clock.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
That's what I mean, just like the radio.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
It's always on, so so good. But a big couple
of days too for the West Coast Eagles. Obviously the
big club Champion Awards last night, the John Worsfold Medal,
and then they've been interviewing in between. They've been interviewing
people for the job, for Adam Simpson's job, and there's
been three Victorians in the in the role. Jared Scofield's

(00:52):
been interviewed already, the local boy, and then three Vicks
have flown in. But first the John Worsfold Medal. Last night,
Jeremy mcg oven secured the accolade that has eluded him
all his career. He's a five time all Australian unbelievable
this one. Yeah, so edged out our man Elliott Yoe
by seven votes. Jakie Waterman was third after his breakout

(01:16):
season fifty three goals and then co captain Liam Duggan
and Brady Hoff asn't he come on so he finished
in the top five. Brady Hoff the young young defender. Yeah,
and it was quite an emotional night because Tom barrass
is for the first he spoke for the first time
about leaving. So I thought it was pretty brave to
get up there and speak to the masses, you know,
the Eagles faithful and say yep, I'm leaving. I've got

(01:39):
me premiership and I've got I know, I've got three
years to run on my contract, but guess what, I
want to go to Hawthorne Like Sam Mitchell, I think
they're going to go really well and I might win
another premiership. So it was it is it is.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Nowadays they're in their premiership window where the Eagles aren't so.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Pretty interesting when you've got three years to on a
new contract, though, I.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Can imagine the negotiations must have been furious. Yeah, pretty complex.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
So he got quite emotional and a lot of people
still very supportive of him. But then the guy who
spoke the best I thought was Jeremy McGovern himself. He
obviously thanked the club and everyone, but then he spoke
about the players that were leaving, so Andrew Gaffi's good
mate retiring. Jack Darling basically said Jack's leaving. So that's

(02:26):
been confirmed. Now Jack's off to North Melbourne and Tom
barrass And this is what it sounded like.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
There's a couple of boys started finishing up. Obviously Gaffy
I was shrafted with him. I've watched him first hand
over the last few years and I've absolutely been in
awe of what he've done. Thank you so much for
your contribution. May you're an absolute champion. And then the
two boys. Two other boys haven't left us yet but

(02:55):
it seems like they might be going in JD.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
I wish him.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
You guys are the best same thing, mate, we were
drafted together. There's not many of us left now, but
your contribution and how much you've given to the footy
club over the years, you should be extremely proud of it.
You're part of this footy club. Until you put the
other jumper on and I was taking your head off,
but but nothing but respect. Mate. I love you. I

(03:20):
wish you in court and family all the best. And
then finally my brother Tommy, a partner in crime down there,
down back. I'm going to miss you, man. I absolutely
love you. You're an absolute champion. I love playing foot
you with you. But more important than you're just an
amazing person and someone who's actually taught me a fairbe

(03:42):
over my career and as a person in general.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
So I love you.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I'm going to miss your the same deal mate, you
come up the other end, I'm going to take your
head off.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
So I love you until I see you out on
the field, and I'm going to take your head off
in a different jump, touching, touching, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
He got quite emotional there, So big a couple of days,
and obviously those guy players leaving now Jack Darling and
Tom barrass the coach's search has been on as well.
So I've been a funny couple of days at the airport.
I actually set my cameo out there for one of
the planes because we weren't sure which planes are on
coming in the candidates, and I said, mate, just shoot
anyone over six foot five, because Stephen King is coming

(04:20):
over from Geelong, right, and he rings me back and
he goes, mate, it's the land of the Giants. Out
of here go what do you mean? He goes The
Brisbane Bullets have just got off and the.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
South Coast was confused.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Carmelo Anthony I said, you won't have to shoot him.
He's obviously not coaching the Eagles, but he said they're
all bloody giants, So I don't know, we're too too
so anyway, So we end up getting Hayden Skipworth who's
from Collingo. He's Collingwood midfield coach John Wollsfield, a big
supporter and I sort of spoke to him as well.
Here's what he had to say.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
You're obviously here to see the Eagles, Yeah, come over
to Yeah, I guess meet the panel today and yeah,
I see what they're all about and put my gusto forward.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
What do you think you want to coach the Eagles?

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Well when it's a big power for the club, hish
Water base commercially really strong. Yeah, they're on the up.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
So who would want to coach him?

Speaker 1 (05:10):
John Worsfold? Would he be one of your referees? I hope.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
So he's a good man.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Wish obviously work with him when he was when he
was at Essen, So yeah, hopefully he's put in a
good word.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
To fight you for me speaking like a coach already, really, yeah,
I'm giving too much away.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
I think he was in shocker about the fish bowl.
The fish bowl too of birth, like he's just come
for an interview and there's sixteen he got anything else
to do. And then Andrew McWalter from Melbourne who used
to he was the interim coach at Richmond for a
while too, and so you know it's Lean Baker very well.

(05:46):
He came in as well, and hay interviewed him and
Stephen King's been here as well. So all those interviews
going on right now. So i'd say early next week
the Eagles will have a new coach and at the moment,
I think Hayden skip Worth's probably in front, mainly because
Johnny Wilsfeld will be giving him the big pump up
for sure, so.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
He'll carry some weight, there's no doubt about that.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, that's certainly the greatest figure in the history of
the club. DOC has had their Club Champion Awards Wednesday night,
one of course by Caleb Sarong from Andy Brashaw came
second again for second y in a row. Hayden Young
was third. Caleb enters rare air. He joins Bell, Pavlich
and Fife as people that have won back to back

(06:25):
Doug Medals. So gone great, but I reckon he might
go okay. The Brownlow actually the Beacon Award for the
best young player or the most promising young player went
to Josh Draper. He looks like he could be anything
and anything. And it was funny being at the airport
actually because I saw justin Longmure. He must have had
done the Doug Medal and got straight on the next plane.

(06:48):
Enough this year we had a surfboard under his arm.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Was just on his way to Bali or somewhere.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
He was just heading off. And of course tonight big
the final start tonight, Sidney Port. Tonight was saying, Sydney
in that one, what he thinks?

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yeah, I think so they're hitting. They're hitting their straps
just at the right time. As we talked about on Monday.
You know, they had their wobbly wobbly period at the
right period of time. Now it might be peaking. They
might be a good run in.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
And you know the stats are interesting though Port has
beaten Sydney the last eight times. Eight times you just
don't see.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
But they're at home for a top time and they're
on a roll, and if it's ever going to.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Happen, it's interesting. SCG might make the difference and then
Geelong and Brizzy tomorrow, Brizzy will be up at about
how would their self belief be when you come back
from forty four points down? That's right, you feel like
you're infallible. You're unbeatable, mate, we can forty four points down?

Speaker 2 (07:40):
You do that? Why not? But I still think Geelong
will pound them, do you think so?

Speaker 1 (07:44):
I think they'll just be speak. They'll bring back.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Hoping for a for a Sydney Brisbane Grand Final.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah, the Convictorians would just oh mate, yeah true, the
vixor bloody had it Sydney. Geelong though would a couple
of years ago. They remember when a long pounded Sny
the good payback time.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
It would be. That's an opportunity there they welcome that, mate.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
I tell you what looks like being massive in Perth
this weekend, this hoops fest just in.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Time for school holidays too.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Oh perfect, it's a school holiday starting next week as well.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yeah, well they're all breaking up today, haven't already.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I am out of the loop. But it's all way
in hoops Fest.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
It's exciting for the rest of us.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
He started last night with the Grand Final rematch. So
what they've done is they brought the NBL here, all
the teams and they're playing their first game here.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
And it doesn't like a gather round.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah, and WNBL as well, so the women and also
the under eight nineteen young guns as well. So it's
spread all over wa and around Perth, but rac Arena
is the main one. And last night there was the
Grand Final rematch between Tasmanian Jack Jumpers and Melbourne United,
who extracted some revenge for last year's Grand Final. United

(08:58):
got up Perth Links had a win. So the Wildcats
played tonight at RSC Arena season I believe it's sold
out and all the Cats fans had to buy tickets too.
Wasn't part of their membership. It's like an extra game
and they've been NBL legends all over the shop and
two of the biggest names Carmelo Anthony, ten times NBA
All Star, just a small name and for a few

(09:21):
clubs yep and had a few more clubs than Greg Norman,
two time NBA champion. Kenny Smith's here as well. It
was funny. The media guy said, oh, look, you know
Carmelo Anthony, don't ask him about his son. And I
thought his son because I didn't know what was going on.
But his son apparently plays in the NBA as well,
and I thought, well, he's got personal problems with his

(09:42):
son or something, but it's just because his son played anyway.
So it was just one of them and talking about
being confused. How's this? This is brilliant. Kenny Smith at
the press conference yesterday, so he's an NBA great as well.
He admitted that he thought that Tasmania was a myth
cool place that Disney invented, that.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Warner brothers the Tazzy Devil, devils in circles and eats
things that.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
So when he got over here and found out Tasmania
was actually a place, wow, wow, I know the devil's there.
There's no devils.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
That doesn't say much about the American education system, does it.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
And and this is a hard one. Someone said to him,
you know what a jack jumper is and he said, oh,
that'll be a kangaroo.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
It's an ant an ant Yeah, that's right. In the committee,
it's it's indigenous to the mythical island.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Of Warner Brothers will be on the phone. What can
we do with that? Can you imagine being on the
committee to get the name for the Tasmanian team and
someone puts up, let's do it after this and called
the jack jumper. Shut up, mate, that's not going to happen.
It stands out it did happen anyway. It's been human
with the Americans, I can tell you. So get along

(10:57):
the hoops fest. Unbelievable cricket. Susie very excited. Travis Head.
He demolished England overnight SUPERB one hundred and fifty four
night out career best guided the World champs to a
seven wicket win over England at trent Bridge in the
first One Day International. So spectacular there. And our women
also won in Mackai they beat New Zealand by five wickets.

(11:19):
Haven't won in about six months, so that was good
for them. And we should touch on the Waffle Grand
Final this Sunday.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Gaveaway tickets all this week.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yes, good on you, thank you for supporting the Waffle.
The gates open at eight point thirty main game, so
the Royals versus Peel Thunder three twenty and I don't
think people know this, but get along kids. It is
school holidays starting obviously or starting today. Get along because
it's the only time you'll get a chance to have

(11:49):
a kick on OPTAs Stadium after final, so you'll be
able to get out there. Have you been plugging it
every so you can get out.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
We're all across this barrel.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Yeah, good Sat. You can kick goals just the same
way that I'm not Jack Darling, but who else Oscar Allen?
He's leaving Jack Darling. You can get nicked, but kick
like Oscar Allen on that five for just get out
there with your mum, your dad.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Opportunity. Yeah, so you kicked a goal on Optics.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
So resi's first Colts at midday and then the League
Royals versus Peel Thunder and have a kick on OPTAs Stadium.
How good does that feel?

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Like?

Speaker 1 (12:23):
What it's like to be an AFL player.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And just pack him in, get good crowd to support Waffle.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
If we could get thirty thousand there spect absolutely. I'm
about to head to Rockingham High School. The highest raising
fundraising school in wa for telethon. Oh fantastic, So fat
Cat and I are going down there. I'll be the
guy on the right, the guy in the suit. But
I think there's some running races, so if I get

(12:50):
beaten by Fat Cat with his giant shoes, it's going
to be very embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
All right, we'll have a good time down at Rockingham
High School. You're back on Tuesday after to the long
weekend with Clersey and Lisa.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Yeah, wrap up, return all the IFL results and talk
about who's in the IFL Grand Final and who's won
the Waffle Grand Final.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Thank you very much for being a good chat
