Speaker 1 (00:00):
We love cats.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
We do.
Speaker 3 (00:02):
We love cats. Everybody knows you and I love cats. Actually,
everyone in the studio here today loves cats. Amber Ashford,
thank you for coming in.
Speaker 4 (00:11):
Hello.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Amber is the marketing and fundraising manager at the Cat Haven.
Amber knows we love cats. Now here's what happened. We
stumbled across this initiative that they had at a rescue
place in North Carolina called it Poorly Drawn Pets, where
people made a donation to a shelter and the people
(00:32):
at the shelter drew a picture of their pets. Some
people got a picasso, some people got something that looked
like it.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Was drawn by a chicken.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
So we.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Should have a go, and we should, you know, see
if we can raise some money for the Cat Haven.
So are you happy to come on board with us,
even though I can't to save my life?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I already had had.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Some listeners and some tips on how to draw cats
to draw you.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, maybe we can find an artist or something to
give us some more more tips.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Maybe maybe we could get onto Johnny Johnny Pinder, I
mean he's as artist, yeah, tattoo artist.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
He extrawed a few dogs and cats in his.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Time, works with the ink.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
But tell us about cat Haven and how you know
you're able to look after the cats there.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, we've got so hello e s perfect timing. They
do it for me.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
We've got about two hundred and fifty cats on site
at the moment, and about eight hundred in Foster as well,
So there's heaps of little kits looking.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
For new hors hundred in Foster.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yeah, it's a big job, but we have lots of
amazing volunteers that help us look after that.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
My neighbor's got a couple. I think she's got one
that only has one eye at the moment she takes in.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
The yeah, yeah, the little yeah, yeah, but you can
hear the noise of the some clause getting.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
The microphone there.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
Yeah, now it is you know, it's a time when
there is a struggle to find homes because let's be honest,
we use this membosis sounds like a saidy term, but
they all cost of living. It is creating issues for
a lot of people, and pets can be the ones
that suffer.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Definitely, Definitely we find you know, that's number one of
our number one reasons why people are surrendering cats all
the time.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
It's really sad. Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Cats do sometimes get a bad rap, but it shouldn't
be the cats. It should be a responsible owners that get.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
A bad rap.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
First of all, you've got to have them sterilized. Otherwise
it just adds to the number that end up at
the cat haven. They can you know, they can be
have lots and lots and lots of kittens. The other
thing they get about rap about is, you know, being outside.
What do you think all cats should be inside? Are
in a cattio patio type.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Of Yeah, yeah, we're very big on the containment of
the cat to the property. You know, they live a great, great, happy,
very happy life, in fact, longer life, Larry, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
When they live inside. So yeah, it's definitely the way
to go. Less injury as well, absolutely yes, keeps them
out of trouble. Everyone wins. Really.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Look at one of those cat nets put up outside
a courtyard and she just can go down to the
drying court and all that, but just can't escape and
no other picks can get in.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Yeah, and no wildlife as well, yeah, true birds and stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yeah, yeah, I should watch the boots through the fantasizing.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
One day you will be mine.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Do you get any support from the government at cat
Haven or is it all you know, sort of donation driven.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
We do.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
We get about three percent funded. Yeah, it's not a lot,
is it not a lot?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
So yeah, we are you know, n ninety seven percent
funded by lovely people like the donuts that are going
to be doing this.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah, bad scribbles.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yeah, that's what it looks like a cat well kind
of the stuff are incredible, We know they're incredible love
for the animals.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But what kind of numbers of people do you have
working at the cat hoven?
Speaker 4 (03:54):
We have about fifty staff at the moment and about
one hundred, one hundred and twenty volunteers right right, big
volunteer base as well.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah. Now, are these kittens that you've brought in this
morning available for adoption?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
They will be in about a week's time. Yeah, they're
just going to get their sterilization done already.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
So they're all nine weeks old, these ones. It's so tiny,
much bigger than tiny.
Speaker 2 (04:16):

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Grow very That's cute. It is pretty cute.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
Yeah, we are talking about, you know, doing some bad drawing.
We'll try and get better as we go along, but
this sort of makes it fun as well.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I can't wait to see them.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
You have to see who we can get, you know,
to help us, probably get us be able to get
our footy guards. We'll talk talk ben o'she doing doing one?
Adrian Barrett, we'll get here on board.
