Speaker 1 (00:00):
We already knew that Perth was the most generous town
around and now it's been confirmed. Acting CEO from Anglicare
wly Way, Philip Aboldi and Housing coordinator Nick Matheson have
joined us again this morning. Good morning, Well, we launched
this three weeks ago, are Carring Coats initiative, collecting coats,
(00:20):
getting donated coats from everyone here at ninety six to
distribute to people who need them, get them straight to them.
It's wrapped up and how wonderful and generous have our
listeners and the people of Perth been amazing amazing, Such
a beautiful sign.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Of generosity from the community to see people responding like
they have.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
And one thing we all noticed is the condition of
the coats and people to donate. Were you impressed with
the condition they came in in, because I guess sometimes
you deal with, you know, people donating stuff that actually
can't even be used, Yeah, and that can.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Be a real challenge for places like op shops, as
I'm sure people yeah, yeah, no, incredibly press with the quality.
And I think that really speaks to the general city
as well, that people have really thought deeply about what
it means to receive a coat like this.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
There were a lot of new.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Coats yes as well.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, it's very cool, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
What about Nicknased gentleman who put three ten dollar notes
into in poppets coats with a little notes.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
So magnificent in that you know somebody would do that,
you know, and that's been a surprise for someone when
they get when they received that, exactly, we'll touch someone's time.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
They're going to put their hand in their pocket and
they're going to pull out ten bucks and a little
personalized note which we won't say what they said, level trying,
but it was it was that actually did that that
made us all cry. It was beautiful. Now it is
actually National Homelessness Week this week. Tell us about the
sleep heart happening at OPTAs Stadium tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yes, a big event in this evening. We've got twenty
schools from around Perth in a couple of regional areas
as well sending more than five hundred students to a
sleepout at OPTAs Stadium to raise funds for our youth
Homelessness services.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Youth doing it for youth.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
That's right, yeah, yeah, and look the young people. We
do this every year with those schools and the young
people their year tens. They really connect with the stories
of youth homelessness that we share with them. Yeah, and
they've really been very motivated around fundraising this year. Yeah,
they're doing a sensational job and that money will go
to our youth services.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
They have raised one hundred and eighty thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Phenomenal so far, I have so far.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
So that is amazing. Well done kids, and once again
the generosity.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
And I would imagine whilst they're there tonight, I mean
they're thinking about the course, but it's also what a
cool thing to do to be an opt slight that
on a night there's no event, just this event.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
OP just is great as well. They display the Anglican
colors for us and all that sort of thing, and
the young people do a simulation activity while they're there
as well, which really helps them to better get insight
into the experience of youth homelessness.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
All right, brilliant.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Well let's not weaar any longer. It's time to reveal
how many coats have been donated. We've got a drum
roll there, missus Claers.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Oh, thank you, am.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Berth.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
You donated five hundred and forty seven coats sensational. Did
you hear about Karen and Pabri who did a little
her own little run in the Pabri area and she
brought in about sixty coats?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Did she was that incredible?
Speaker 1 (03:27):
That was from Pabri. She just yees, she just took
it upon herself to put it on. You know, we
all have our Facebook pages without where we live. She
put it on there and Pabri really came through. So
that's that's the kind of incredible community spirit that has generated.
So let's hope that it keeps on going.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, we're really looking forward to distributing them.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Yes, yes, it'd be really good to start to get
them coats out. You know in the weather today will
be changing once again, so I think those coats will
be you know, well, we want to life saving for
some people.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Absolutely. We want to thank you for partnering with us too,
because I don't think we could have done it on
our own. So it's been it's been really great.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
It's fantastic. Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Love to see both again on a day when we
could come up with that number, five hundred and forty
seven codes in three weeks
Speaker 1 (04:15):
That's amazing well done and good luck with tonight.
