Speaker 1 (00:13):
Good morning, Hey morning guys.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
A special footy panel this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Yeah, the gang's all here.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
And I noticed the boys know how to use the
mics and they're turning up the audio and stuff.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
We've got their first rodeo.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
We've got our footy people here. Yeah, Elliott Yo and
Hayden Young of course. And the boys have been making
the headlines a little bit over the preseason, of course,
because very important players for their teams, and at the
moment they're injured.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
And I do think we were going to start with.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
That yahoul I should have given half folly to smash
through mid wicket.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Morning guys, lovely to have you back back.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
We've got that out of the way, so now grow
the tapes for all the newsrooms around town. And can
we let's go alphabetically, which unusually would be you Yoey first.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
That means Christian I was always last.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, today you normally would be Yeah, I thought you'd
like that, great man, because I imagine with why that
you're always at the back of the list.
Speaker 6 (01:21):
Especially when it comes to like forty Carnival stuff like that,
or like Statur's, like all those tryats and stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, it is my name going to come last name
every time you should have played with Oh yeah, it
was just it was hard.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
It was hard.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
I told a funny story about you the other day,
Adam Simpson, that your former coach. He was saying that
when he was coaching, he had fifty secret meetings with players,
right like, so you know, they come to the club
and hide away and sort of you know, trying to
recruit other players from other teams.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
He said. In the first one was Yoey. Where did
you meet him secretly at the football club? Actually you
were playing for Brisbane and they flew you in and
this was.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
In that whole trade period and yeah, sat down and
had a meeting with Simmo because he'd just come over
and been appointed and it was an a lecture theater
actually I remember at vividly and he's put the team
up and he put my name in the.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Middle, classic as you would do.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
Yeah, yeah, you're gonna be playing midfield.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, yeah, exactly. So I was like, but at.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
The time I thought I had a look at the
listener I actually was thinking about the other day and.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
I saw it and I actually just thought this team could.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
We're young, but I actually feel that we can actually
push for a flag at some point in the next
year or two. And eventually you were right, and yeah
two years later and two years later, yeah we got
on there and then we finally got the ultimate Nadine.
So yeah, that was just the feeling I thought as
well that it would be the best place to get
the most out of my football as well, to.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Get that feeling at the moment with the new black,
McWalter is getting any of that sort of feeling that
in a couple of years time it could becomes similar
because he's the same age as in the moment.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
He Recridge you yeap.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Different obviously ends at the spectrum, but yeah, we're starting
to get a young list now and they're starting to develop.
So yeah, I'm starting to get excited by what I'm saying.
But yeah, there's there's still some things that we need
to iron out a fair bit. So yeah, it's it's
as as I said, it's an exciting time. But yeah,
we've got plenty of work to do and young your
team's at the other end of the scar, aren't they.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
You're sort of I've noticed a lot of people tipping
you to win the premiership, including myself.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Myself that Matthew Lloyd was.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Weird last night.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Now you said you won't make the eight. I really
fell off, fell off the couch when he said that. Like,
but I guess, how are you feeling about it?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Some very random things Matthew.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I think he's got it in for the docks. I
don't know what it is, but I feel really confident
about you guys.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Yeah, I think there's a lot of excitement around the place,
and I think last year we had a pretty consistent year.
We obviously fell short at the end, but I feel
like going into the season we had a lot of
confidence at our Our foot is good enough. We just
needed to I suppose, have a bit of luck with
some injuries and when I suppose when this yeah, yeah,
when crunch time comes, we sort of we fell away
(04:12):
a little bit, so that was sort of a focus
of the pre season. But yeah, as you said, there's
a lot of external expectations that we can't really control,
but internally we've got a lot of belief and yeah,
we just got to keep trusting what we're doing, and yeah,
hopefully the winds come.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
So how is the hemmy and it's a reoccurrence, any
concerns there, How are you feeling about it?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Feeling really good.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
It's sort of I've had a few issues over the
whole summer and it all sort of they all sort
of work together and it paints a little picture there.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
But yeah, it's feeling really good.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
I've sort of this second time with the Hammi rehab,
we was going to take more of a cautious approach
and spend a bit more time getting some quality work
into it. So I'm all on board with the plan there,
and we're not going to rush it back because it's
a long year and there's plenty of footage of play,
so hopefully I'm back still at the early part of
the year.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
So important, So return to play like round three or
something like that around that sort of.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
I think that's a derby, So that sounds pretty good.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
And when you'd be back to meeting probably not the derby,
nah nah, but I'm hoping around that time, maybe just after.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
So yeah, yeah, that's amazing because when you went down,
I got to say, like, I was there because you know,
I'm president of someone was in the grandstand, you know
the grandstand.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
You're running up and down there.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
To to well, it's like Rocky up and down the stairs.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah, and it looked like your knee. I thought it was.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I thought it was a bad knee, and then I
didn't realize your ankle as well.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Did you think the same thing at the same time.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
I definitely thought, well, I felt a pop in both
when it happened, So I thought, obviously, when it happens
and you feel the pain, and then you hear people
talk about when they do obviously the worst one, that
it stings for a bit and then goes away, And
that was kind of the feeling I had. But then
as I started to move a little bit, I felt
it on the inside, so I was like, oh, now
I might be okay here, but you just never know
(06:01):
until they do the tests and whatever. And then I
was able to sort of hobble off a bit, but
generally you can still sort of do that with the
worst one. But got lucky in the end, and you know,
I think I had a little surgery a couple of
weeks ago now, so that sort of tightened a few
things up and starting to get running now, which hopefully
(06:22):
can build up from that and then go from there.
So yeah, that's that's basically the crux of it all.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
So you've got a new game plan. Eighth, that's sort
of got a new game plan that brought on the
Tigers game plan, which is more sort of run and stand,
more attackings that have heavy defensive pressure around the ball.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Which will that'll suit you perfectly, won't it?
Speaker 6 (06:40):
Yeah, it will suit you majority of teams really, So
I think a lot of opposition a plan that way
as well. So go as fast as you can in
offense and then you know, hopefully try and you know,
when you're defending behind the ball without giving too much away,
but everyone can see. You know, you kind of want
to work together because it's hard. You know, one on
(07:00):
one defense is hard out there. Otherwise you know you're
going to defend a lot and you're going to spend
a lot of energy in that, and then when it
comes to you know, actually win the ball. You don't
have a lot of energy for offense, so you need
to work together and then hopefully from that point on
you can get the ball back as close to goal
as possible. So I'm pretty sure that without sort of
you know, going into full technical you know andpeks of
(07:21):
it all, most teams will probably want to do that.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, on the field.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
So it's Liam Baker and James Graham sort of coaching
you in this new style.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Is that how it works? They do a lot of
the talking.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
Yeah, they are, and that's that's why they're part of
the leadership group now. And I think everyone saw that
over the summer, so yeah, yeah, it was It was
good that they were able to sort of speak up
and help a lot of the teammates and the younger.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Boys as well. So yeah, it's it's probably a bit
of the Richmond game.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
Plan in it.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
And you've got a Tiger too, a Shay Bolton, It's
easy showed a bit on the weekend too.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Is very excited. He's got all he's got Clarzy excited.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Of course, what do you reckon?
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Yeah, I think we've we've all seen glimpses over the
last few years at Richmond, but over the summer he's
been pretty impressive and we're pretty excited about what he
can bring to our group and he just adds that
little bit of polish in the forward line.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
And yeah, I think we saw a few glimpses on
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Actually might have some audio here Clarsey as well, because
your coach he had to clear up some because it
was really weird at mandra, wasn't it. So Luke Jackson,
Premiership player for Melbourne, he's hugging Petrarca and sort of
Oliver before the game and then and then Cozy Pickets
over there and you Bucks, your players look like they
were talking to him a lot. And suddenly it became
(08:30):
a story that the trade was on for Cozy Picket
to come to the Dockers and for Jackson to go
back to Melbourne.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
And this is the way that Jalo handled it.
Speaker 7 (08:41):
Someone from the club has spoken to him already and
he's reiterated that he doesn't want to go anywhere and
he's never been happier. So not a consent, no, just
nothing I've seen of Luke throughout the preseason has shown
me that he wants to leave in.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
So jl just completely hit it out of the park.
Yeah he posted that one, didn't he.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Yeah, he was pretty pretty confident with that one.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
Yeah, it's interesting. That's the first I've heard of as well.
So I was like, true, but.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
You go away now and stir up Jackie, don't.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
He probably wouldn't give him my old DOGO. He's pretty
blank face usually.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
But what's he like in the middle because you're there,
you're one of the men. He's an incredible athlete. He's like,
he's a generational player, isn't he When he goes to
the ruck and then he hits the ground and he
almost runs past you.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Yeah, he's a special player.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
And that's what we love playing with him because we
talk as a midfield group that's four v four and
the ruckman's a big part of that midfield group. And yeah,
when the ball hits a deck, he certainly feels like
another midfielder in there, and he just does things that
you sort of you don't expect the big man to
be able to do, which is pretty special.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
So but yeah, he provides a great.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Sort of contest for us early around the ground and
then yeah, as you said, when the ball hits the ground,
he's like another midfielder.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Going to make it such a difference.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
I just quickly before we get the break, I'll quickly
asked Elliott, any chance you get a tip free trip
to Doha again?
Speaker 6 (10:09):
Go back there with this I was thinking about it
actually started the pre season just gone, but having the
bub obviously it was a bit hard, but I think, yeah,
I reckon at the end of this year. I'm thinking
I might try and get back there and at the
end of this year, yeah, yeah, and have a little refresher.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Must be pretty good over there. Obviously the guys at
Guru is he.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
And ah, yeah, absolute weapon. So yeah, yeah, he's He's
helped me a fair bit. And obviously up until the
ankle and the knee, things were gone.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Okay, well I.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
Don't I don't want to make it, so yeah, things
are going all right. So yeah, look at everything that
he sort of put forward was working. But then, you know,
like all things, you sort of your body gets used
to all these different exercises and acclimatizers, so then it's like,
all right, well what's next. So then you'll go over
and learn a few new things and get on for that.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
So yeah, as soon as you can take leasa and
at the end of the year, mat we're happy.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
It's stinking hot, sting it was like, yeah, we'd go
from yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Well we're coming to pool Yeah yeah, yeah, moment.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
That's for sure Channel seven and need to do a story,
I think.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
So I feel a junket coming on catching up with
our footy boys and Elliot you and Hayden Young here
as well.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
It's amazing what happens actually in the breaks, doesn't it
because the boys here chatting about, well, let's start with
the opening round, are.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
We, Robert Nona.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
I do think there's a competitive advantage to it as well,
which is the frustrating, the frustrated.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
That gone to Las Vegas saggy league. Yeah yeah, but
like for.
Speaker 6 (11:48):
The AFL boys, is why they actually get two buyers
for the season teams that are playing first year Yeah so,
and especially the first couple of rounds. They're really important
because I reckon by about round four to six, if
you play all of them from the get go, your
body actually really like gets really really sore before it
(12:08):
actually sort of gets used to the knocks and the
bumps and you sort of become footy fit.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
So is what it is?
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Well exactly, yeah, not a proper round round Yeah that
by early stupid can actually help a fair bit.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
And the season's almost too long young, isn't it Like
you're even finding that and Brison with a short short preparation,
even a cyclone hasn't stopped.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Well, yeah, I reckon like our pre seasons have become
really short with some people are massive fans on but
like Brizzie played in the Granny and now they're playing
opening around and it's pretty short turn around. And yeah,
like the seasons are very long. They're starting earlier, finishing later,
and yeah, it's a lot of footy, but yeah, I'm
not really too sure. I'm pretty happy that we're just
got the week off and we'll go again next week, so.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
You've got twelve days to round one. It's it's almost
upon us, isn't It's just it's now's the time where
no one wants to get hurt. No one just wants
to everyone wants to be prepared. That was a good
hit out against Melbourne, did you think?
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Yeah? It was great. As you said, no one got injured,
which is always a good sign.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
And from going off the other games, I was a
bit nervous going and I don't care about the result
as long as everyone's healthy.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
And that looked like it was the case. So but yeah,
I thought it was a good hit out of some
good signs.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
A few things that we need to work on, but yeah,
nice to sort of get some continuity in our game.
It was sort of like the sort of first the
first time we've had sort of about a team together.
We obviously had the All Star Game, but we had
a few blocks missing out of that. So it's good
that we got some continuity in a few of the boys.
And yeah, looking forward to ground one.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
And Alex Peer is still to come back. You, of course,
do you see the boys eyes light up when you
come out of the middle. Do you see JT you know,
Josh Tracy or you know or Jaike.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
He comes, he comes young.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Yeah, I hope so I feel like more.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
Yeah, I thought that's the more. The more you play together,
you start to build that chemistry. And it is nice
sometimes when I get the ball and you sort of say,
they might not even be looking at me, but I
know exactly when they're going to come and tick, And yeah,
it's a good feeling.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
When when they attack, like when they change change, Yeah, exactly.
He knows when his teammates are going to do. I'm
like that with my partner you do that.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
They were training though, so he'd train with the boys,
so they'd run their patterns and all that after training,
and so eventually it becomes almost instinctive.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
He's improved. We never used to boot it long enough,
especially many. He just booted anywhere out of bounds oday,
that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
And how do you feel about your boys in Yah?
It feels like they're on the rise. And have you
seen who have you seen that you like some of
the young guys coming through.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Just from watching training.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
I actually feel here he's going to take that next step.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
I hope Elijah. Yeah, he's looking really good, really good.
Speaker 6 (14:58):
And I think from a lot of the younger boys,
I think Rube's coming off the half back as well.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
He's done some good things. So yeah, I'm excited he
goes before it starts. I'm excited by those.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (15:11):
My mother used to say, no comment, no comment, We'll
leave it at that after straight back.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
So good.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Yeah, he's been he's been dead of the year on
the weekend. Yeah, looked after the bub I did. Yeah,
did you slept the whole night?
Speaker 5 (15:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, that's what I say. But then I get slapped
over there. But she let him sleep in the spare room.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
I mean dad is like absolute ripper, Yeah, absolute ripper.
But she goes, look, fair enough, there's no point both
being tired, and you know you've got to train.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
And do all this and she's a legend.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
She looks up and I was like, look, I'll give
you a chop out when you need so she's like, yeah, cool.
So on the weekend I took Indy and she slept
the whole night for me.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Yes, don't whoever coined the phrase sleep I got the touch?
Got the touch? Have you heard the phrase sleeps like
a baby?
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (16:14):
I never coined that.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Never had kids ahead of your young.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Actually young plenty of time. I'm sleeping, well.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Do it?
Speaker 2 (16:27):
We loving were loving the purple I hear it now
that in the ladder were headbands or you have to
have your headbands approved as well in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
Yeah, there's all kinds of different rules now because of
the headband that Bailey Smith wore ye the night, the
Nike one.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
So then the AFL's come out with a few other things.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
You can't wear skins now that are below the shorts,
so my chafe is just going to be through the roof.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
So I trouble. It's ridiculous. Yeah, yeah it is. It
is ridiculous, but I mean it doesn't look it looks untidy.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
And then yeah, and then your headband has to be
the same color as your hair or your team's colors.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Really, you yowey to come out in the first round
with some really long, short standing.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Yeah or young ye purple headband to rip out of.
I don't even think they sell alike. I don't even
think team stores sell headbands your colors.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Yeah, but these people from market are about idea.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yeah, the man bun still sweet, though, I think.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Yeah, it does a job for me. Yeah, got the
blonde hair tie that'll do.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
I'm a bit like I'm a bit like YOEI though
here in your eyes when you're playing a mullet at
one stage with a classic we rocked them and the
hair does get in the way in the end, I
just went short.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Yeah, yeah, no, it can be a bit of a distruction.
I like to keep it half out of my eyes.
But if it does get ripped out and there's a
stoppage unfolding, it's it's quite stressful. You got to try
to get it back in quickly or just just play
and hope for the best.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
But yeah, you're like a ninja sorting that out though.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Yeah, pretty I've become pretty efficient. I was going off,
I'm still getting.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
In a derby.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Would you ever rip Harley's headband on? It often throw
somewhere so he had to go.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
And find it, probably not intentionally, but it might happen
on accident.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
I've just thought about doing it myself. Yeah, second year
blues obviously is a thing, isn't in footy? Is hardy?
It doesn't look like it's he's going to have it?
Are you still mentoring him and stuff?
Speaker 6 (18:32):
I am, yep, yep, but it's yeah, I find that
a lot of the time though. We've got a really
good relationship off field, but a lot of the time
I'd like to be on field to sort of help
guide him a bit as well. I feel like I
see a lot of myself in him as well with
I guess he's passion of the game that.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Yeah, I definitely. Yeah, he's one of a common players.
Speaker 6 (18:59):
So yeah, I'm hopeful that I can get back out
there as quick as possible and help a lot of
the younger boys out there and protect.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Them a bit.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
We got I've got to finish by asking giant amos,
how big does he look now? He looks magnificent. He
was ragged alling some of the boys at training, like
JT and that, like he is so strong.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah, it feels like he gets bigger every every year.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
But I think some of the feedback last year was
he's coming up against some pretty big and physical opponents
and they were probably ragging on him a little bit.
So the feedback was, yeah, you Sadden, you need to
be the sort of imposer. And yeah, he's sort of
taking that feedback on board. He just looks big in
the traps and he sort of gets a big vega
and and he walks around like this. Yeah actually so yeah,
(19:45):
he's feeling pretty good. So but no, it's good. That's
a part of his game that he's got some feedback
and he needs to work on. He wants to be
an enforcer and hopefully we see that in his game
and it helps him, you know, take more marks, kick
more goals.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Well, we hope you're back very soon, boys, and think
it'll be pretty good year for both of them.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Yeah, thank you very much, Thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
We'll see you separately. Really soon, Yeah, you're a ninety
six and thanks Barre
