Comedian Dylan Moran is on his way to Perth with his new show, 'We Got This'. If his name doesn't ring a bell, you'll probably be more familiar with his British sitcom character from Black Books, where he plays the grouchy bookshop owner, Bernard Black.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, you can catch Dylan Moran at the Perth Concert
Hall maybe the eighth and ninth with his stand up
show We Got This.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Tickets are through Ticketmaster and Dylan's joining us now. Good morning, Dylan.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Hey there, guys, are you very well?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
You called the show we Got This. Often when I
hear people say that, I think, do.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
We trying to convin themselves?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yep? No, well that's exactly what I think when I
hear it, So you know, that's why the show is
called a right, you know, I actually I got it.
I got it roughly around. It was kind of a
combination of when Trump was around ye and Johnson was
Prime Minister in the UK. The attitude he was around
the time when he was telling about talking about turning

(00:41):
the virus packing as soon as it arrived, you know,
don't worry with us, is saying, you know, we're going
to tell her to go away. It'll be fine. Just
from that kind of attitude, generally, all those guys, not
those guys in particular, they're just another couple of chumps.
There's a long line of them around the world to
turn up and tell everybody not to worry, so that
they look like they're the ones in control all of
the situation, and it's kind of like the way people

(01:02):
run really risky financial stuff. They're just sort of best
that it might go their way. Ye, and then everybody
else is in the do do for a long time
and you know, just a human thing of going, you know,
without this and you know we all do it. I
do it, we all do it. What is it we got?
You know, what is the thing that we.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Actually quite sure?

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I think it's a little half hard an attempt to
sort of tell ourselfs everything is going okay.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
But when you've got a politician saying, I'm just going to.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Have a stern word with a pandemic little we got this,
don't you worry?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Stand aside self reassurance. Yeah, it's a bit much.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah. And also whatever it is, the other thing is
that whatever we've got, we've got something, so.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
We ya yah yeah yeah. A view of the said
COVID you mentioned Trump there in a few politicians names.
I watched Joe Biden last night with this State of
Union address and getting attacked by the Republicans. It never
stops giving us great content, does it. Politics and politicians
and the different players.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Well after the thing I've noticed. Probably it's definitely since
the last time I was in od it's probably I
think we're beginning before then, But it's really really you
see it everywhere now where I remember, like, you know,
people talking about American politics used to be something people did,
you know, years ago, when they were maybe on business,
they would mention it because they've been back and forth
to the States. But now it's just like a sport
for everybody. People like record boring political interviews and they

(02:13):
come home and they watch it. And because they look
at American politics as though it's not quite real as
it's happening behind it kind of a screen, I think,
you know, there's something slightly unreal about it still. Yeah,
maybe because we just look at them and we gow,
how can you have more guns than people? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, I think there's something slightly unreal about America in
general when I get now, this is your first full
stand up show in four years. Obviously the pandemic had
something to do with that as well, But how do
you know when a show is done and ready to go.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
You don't then it isn't okay, as never is.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
I guess as it goes along.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, it's never done. You know what I mean. It's
always a bonfire, and you know it's crackles and its
booms and it bursts and there's sparks, and you know
it eats the neighbors trees. That happens every now and again.
You know, it's just it's a big conflagration of stuff
that you have got going on. And also you know
you're drawing from whatever you are picking up on from
your own life and your own head and then and

(03:11):
your own heart and the world around you.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
You know, what does that have to be done before
it goes out? Is a book? And I understand you
have one on the way.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
You're the second people to say that to me. So
obviously I said something about a book to somebody, and
every where's this book? Everybody. I love the way everybody.
I love the way everbody turns to me because your lady,
you haven't done a book. Where's your book? By it?

Speaker 4 (03:32):
I will buy it, don't you just buy it?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Just got to write it. I've got a book. I've
got a book I had to write exactly. Yeah, I've
done the true. Okay, let me do the truth.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
My pressure speaking of other endeavors, my creative endeavors. You know,
if you're writing poetry or painting, some of the things
that you love to do, do you get time to
do those on the ride? Is that things you do
when it's your downtime and pleasure time.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
No, it's not. I do it all the time. I don't.
I mean, that's the truth. I don't. I don't. That's
not a hobby. I don't set aside the time to
do that. I literally do it before I brush my teeth.
I do stuff all the time. So yeah, I just
such as part of part of what I do.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
No doubt you've noticed there's a lot of reboots of
TV shows lately. I mean this week they're even talking
about faulty towels. I don't know how I feel about that,
but I can't imagine it working now.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Not after the Golden How about you, it would.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Have to be you know, toned back. But would you
ever bring back Black Books?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
No? People have asked about all kinds of things and
musicals and black books on ice and you know whatever
trilogy or inside Black Books or you know whatever. I don't.
I don't care about any of that stuff. No, I'm
always I always want to do the next thing. That's
what I want to do. I still want to do
the next thing.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, I I was thinking through the TV deal and
last night and I couldn't watch the three reality shows
that were on. There was one on dating, one on surviving,
and when I'm eating trying someone trying to find someone entertainers.
Are you watching a bunch of TV these days?

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I'm really sorry, but these short answers to you.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Were good, fair enough.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I'm really behind. I don't know ship. I don't know
what out there. People keep telling me about the show
and that show and I haven't seen it. I'm still
behind with everything, but I don't and you know what
I do, And I kind I slightly because I'm thousands
of years old, I slightly miss that thing of them
they're being. You know, it's almost Soviet there being one
thing on you know that everybody would talk about the

(05:21):
next day. Yes, it was a really it was a
really powerful bonding thing that is so gone. Yeah, But
because now now you know, you talk to people and
they go, have you seen this, saying it's amazing it's
about these offers workers. But they're all ninjas at night,
but they only you know, they only deal with crimes
in the catering industry or whatever, and he goes, you know,

(05:43):
I haven't seen that, and there's just too many things. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, it's taken away that whole water cooler conversation that
they used to talk about when you'd watch it, and
also on a wake to wake basis.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, everything's super super Niche Well, it is good.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
To say you on TV again though, stuck, which you.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Write, Yeah, I think that's on in ours sometime. It
is on already, is it? Yeah, well, you know, it's
it's own thing. It's kind of a I suppose it's
a bit old in the way to be like an
indie movie or something in chopped a bit at least.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
I talked about the water cooler conversation about things that
we have, but everyone's had gotten the things off their
chest online these days. Do you ever read any comments,
particularly about your shows online, what people have to say.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I've read some of them, Yeah, I mean I have not.
I don't keep up with a bit like in massive detail,
because because I like my heads, I wouldn't, you know.
I don't spend a whole lot of time in the
in the online world because from checking with people, it
doesn't seem to do any of them any good.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Well, Dylan, I expect the people of Perth to get
around ticket Master to get tickets for the shows at
the Perth Concert Hall May eighth and nine. Pretty quickly.
We got this coming to town. It's lovely to talk
to you.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Thank you very much, guys, Thank you Dylan.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Take care Mane. We'll say you the book

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Signing with my book alright, thanks, love you there and
take it
