Speaker 1 (00:00):
When's talk sport with the Adrian Barrage.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
When you've got to get work here, you've got to
get into work Clobber. Their eight trade stores are everywhere,
so when you need it, you can get it or
check out work clobber dot com, dot at you.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I am excited about our footy panel.
Speaker 4 (00:16):
Funny that because we've got the panel of Barrows here
as well. Kid a boys and Barrow good this is
this is great to be here.
Speaker 5 (00:23):
Young Elliott and Adrian Barratch good morning, so.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Good and youngie coming off a win that is just unbelievable,
beating the pies at the g. You know, the Kings
of the MCG. They love the close games. Is that
the best game you've played in?
Speaker 6 (00:37):
Uh, yeah, it'll be up there. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (00:40):
I've played in a few close games and sort of
have them in on that end of it. We've sort
of fallen short a few times. And yeah, it was
really nice to win. And yeah and Colin had a
great fourth quarter team, and yeah, we're able to sort
of show some maturity and yeah, find a way to
win when they sort of came early and kicked a
few goals.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Now, do you think you should have come on a
little bit earlier. I was thinking Young On, Young On Now.
Speaker 7 (01:02):
They did a great job up until when I did
come on, But I would have loved to have come
on earlier because I was very nervous sitting on the
bench and you just want to get into the game
and get involved. So but yeah, I was happy when
I came on. I was have fresh legs and have
an impact.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And then he came on, guys, and he had eleven possessions,
made this great smother on Nick day KOs And then
you've hit up You've hit up Dogga for the win?
Were you kicking it to Dogger? Were you're kicking it
to Luke? Who is Luke Jackson?
Speaker 7 (01:29):
Keep in mind, I'd like to say I was, but
I definitely wasn't. I was just trying to kick it
low and hard out in front of Gye and I
sort of pulled the kick a little bit and it
just worked out and dog I was in the right
position and took the mark and looked great on the broadcast,
But I don't think he actually.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Meant coming from Baby Banfield's left.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Yeah, that was probably the kick that opened the game up.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So he was good. He Yeah, he did. You who
are you barracking for in that game neither just I.
Speaker 8 (02:02):
I was a big supporter of the game.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Answer the umpires, mate is don't talk about the umpires.
We won't. We won't ask you, young, But Josh Tracy
pushing back into the back line at the end, they're
taking the game saving mark and then getting Need in
the back as well, and then there was almost a brawl,
and you know, I was really impressed with Wagner's maturity
(02:26):
went in and he didn't try to fight. He tried
to keep the boys off more didn't He's going young, Ea,
seid all down, turn it over here, and it was
a bit like.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
That was a great moment.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
And we've seen it a few times now where he's
gone back late in the quarter and taking a game
saving mark, And yeah, it was not ideal getting Need
in the back, but I suppose we had to show
some maturity and just we knew that there was only
about thirty seconds left on the clock, so nothing silly
at that stage of the game.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
And yeah, we're able to win from there. So it
was a great, great moment.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
We were laughing clears he weren't we with Luke Ryan
comes to kissing Poo become the kissing player. Kiss you,
he kiss Josh.
Speaker 7 (03:00):
He does love it when either a mid or for
it goes back and supports the defenders.
Speaker 6 (03:04):
So that's probably why I got a kiss.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
And there's a guy called Lisa the Prancing Pony.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yes, we've talked about the Prancer.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, I don't think it's the greatest nickname. But gee,
six goals at the MCG first time he's played there.
It's not the most madly i've heard.
Speaker 7 (03:20):
Yeah, he's a big bug. He played like a man,
that's for sure. And yeah, we had a role on
Darcy Moore on the day and it was sort of
a defensive role to sort of nullifying because he has
been in great form and in the first quarter he
kicked what three or four goals, and yeah, it was
really diligent with his role as well, Darcy Moore didn't
have a huge impact on the game, and yeah, he
(03:40):
was just massive for us. And I thought he was
really mature, someone that in the past can get pretty
fired up and when he's got a roll, he can
get quite physical. But I just thought he was really
smart about how he went about it. Didn't give you
any free kicks and obviously hit the scoreboard, which is great.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Now, can I ask a technical question, yes, just for
the moment, and Joey, you may want to contribute as well.
Cow tackling it's a new thing. Have you seen that?
So Colinwood tried that at the end, didn't they, Which
was when they get hold of you, they sort of
sit on your back, but then they let you go.
They don't take you to the ground. So that one
in the air.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
Yeah, appealing it so it's like you're riding the ball.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
It's not broke back Mountain. It's good of like.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
It could be.
Speaker 8 (04:23):
Well, but that didn't come from younger And.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Were you ready for that and you understood what they
were doing and played along?
Speaker 7 (04:33):
Yeah, I suppose. So it's something that we probably would
try to do as well. We know you want to
keep the ball alive when you're behind. So I thought
they handled it out well. I thought we actually handled
it well too. We sort of spoke about in those
situations as a receiver, you want to get to your
teammate's eyes so you have something quick easy to give
it to. And I felt like we did that well
and we were able to sort of take twenty or
(04:53):
thirty seconds off the clock in the sort of last
minute of the game, which was good.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
So it's a tackle non tackle to stop the stoppage.
Speaker 9 (04:59):
Yeah, I reckon. The AFL clamped down on it too.
I reckon the umpire as will Yeah, because I reckon
you tackle them to the ground, which is good. But
then if you let go and they don't get rid
of it, I reckon, they'll start pinging them.
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Right, they wanted to keep moving down.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, and what did you think young when it was Warner?
Wasn't it got done fifty meters for pointing to the scoreboard,
which we haven't seen paid for. Ya, you would love
that too.
Speaker 8 (05:22):
It was so stupid.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
It wasn't enough.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
Yeah, it was a bit confusing.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
We didn't really know. I was on the bench at
the time, so I didn't know what the fifty was for.
It was probably after the game when I saw all
the sort of the backlash of it. It was very
interesting and he was a bit confused as well. So yeah,
not ideal, but yeah, because.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
It was so dumb, I mean ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Well, I can because on the bench is saving bffy
read from the head injury.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
I tried to. Yeah, he came flying. Yeah, I know
it was. It was interesting. I thought that could have
been a free kick.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, but they rolled out the monitor yesterday too with
the crack in it.
Speaker 7 (05:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I didn't quite make it through the
game the monitor. But Murphy reads, all right, that's good.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Would that have been a free kick normally? Do you think?
Speaker 6 (06:02):
I don't know. I don't know. It was deliberate it.
Speaker 5 (06:09):
Just before we get into Derby chat proper.
Speaker 8 (06:11):
The atmosphere is electric.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
You can cut the air with a knlf all of
that stuff.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Elliott.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
There's only five games to go, which is shit's gone quick.
But you do know now that you won't be playing
this year. No foot has not made it.
Speaker 10 (06:25):
Yeah, the cank who has something of a relief to
finally you know know where you're at though, Yeah, it is.
Speaker 8 (06:36):
It is a relief, but it's also frustrating.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
Of course, it's been a frustrating year for you.
Speaker 8 (06:41):
Yeah, wasted year, which is really frustrating.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
Young team.
Speaker 8 (06:44):
You want to be out there to help and not
being able to do that.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
Also, just.
Speaker 8 (06:49):
It infuriates me being on the sidelines.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
It's not been a wasted year because you've had a
great year with your new baby and all that and
life is really good.
Speaker 9 (06:57):
But yes, it's been year football was football course, Yes, yeah, yeah,
it's it's been tough, really tough not being able to help.
I feel like I'm a practical player and a practical person,
so being able to physically help and being out in
the field is my way of actually helping and leading
and being a.
Speaker 8 (07:16):
Part of the team.
Speaker 9 (07:16):
So yeah, I've had to find different ways and avenues
as well to try and impact and have some sort
of influence on the group. But yeah, the best way
I feel by doing that is just being out there.
So not being able to do that has been super frustrating.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Was there turning point for you mad a few a
few weeks ago maybe we thought, oh this is not a.
Speaker 9 (07:35):
Few weeks ago, yeah, I tried to increase my training
load and my running capacity and just couldn't do it.
Just kept getting sore in the ankle, joined and sindus
Moosa's joint. So yeah, more complications, which obviously means more opinions,
more specialist talk, all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
So yeah, we'll be able to cure it. You're about
to hear, let there be no dramas for next year.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
That's the plan.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (07:59):
Yeah, but it's like, what, you know, what decision do
we make in order to do that? Oh, there might
be that, there's that avenue as well, and there's also
there's two or three different options that we can do.
So we're trying to do everything we can before having
to go under the knife again and fix it back
to Dubai or Nah, that's a bit different. Dubai was
a bit more soft tissue. This is more of an
(08:19):
impact injury, which is completely nutally different, which is the
frustrating aspect. So I think like over the course of
my career, I think he had one impact injury and
that was a hand in twenty fourteen, so and I
missed eight games, so something.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
I unbelievably unlucky. What's your overwhelming emotion, Dereckon, how would
you describe it? Oh?
Speaker 8 (08:37):
Frustration? Yeah, yeah, massive amount of frustration.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Wow, and your mate is missing you, Harley. Wasn't he
the week before? Have you spoken to him since? Because
he was very calm on the weekend.
Speaker 9 (08:49):
I spoke to him after the game. Actually, I just
said I was proud of him and the way that
he went about it. I thought he played good, tough,
hard football and played it the right way, I didn't
really get caught up in all the crowd happened. He
just basically let his talent to the talking. So when
you can do that, he can be a very very
good player and impacted game in ways that many can't.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
How hard is it not to mention twenty million dollars?
Speaker 9 (09:13):
I mean, it's pretty a big number in that, but
that's life.
Speaker 8 (09:16):
Changing amount of money.
Speaker 9 (09:17):
So yeah, look, if that's what's been reported, then there's
always there's where's the element of truth to that as well?
But look, he's a fantastic player and hopefully the club
can keep him. What the what the numbers and figures
look like, that's for Pikey and Clarky and all those
boys to figure out Harley and his manager, But yeah,
fingers crossed, we can keep him.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
The next question is if the Eagles can't make the finals,
is spoiling Freemantle season the next best option?
Speaker 9 (09:46):
I think it's like, yeah, it's we've been in this
position like a couple of times and you get to
this point of the season and you go, okay, well
what do you want to get out of the rest
of the year, And a lot of it comes down
to yeah, like sure, you want to play your brand
of football all and you want to try and build
into the next season. But also if you can take
off a scalpo ard two and not like ruining other
(10:07):
team's chances, but if you can you can smiling.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
Where do you reckon? Young?
Speaker 1 (10:12):
You reckon? It's like the eagless Grand Finally they'll really
come at you.
Speaker 6 (10:17):
Potentially.
Speaker 7 (10:17):
It's always a big game derbies, and as we were
speaking about before, it doesn't matter where the teams are
in the ladder.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
It's always a fierce contest.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
Our last two weeks have been sort of the highest
pressure games we've faced this year, and Hawthorne and Collingwood. Yeah,
and I feel like we're going to sort of feel
a similar sort of pressure on the weekend because it's
a derby and I feel that we're well prepared for
that and we look forward to it. And I suppose
heading to the back end of the year you want
to be playing in I suppose heated games where it's
really contested and pressure is high.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
So no, we're looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
So you'll come in right so that we won't be
this sub most probably.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
I hope break Yeah, yeah, I hope not, because I
didn't love it, but.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Get cold on the.
Speaker 8 (10:56):
People saying like, yeah, I love playing, some love it
the best.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
We'll see what happens, but yeah, a good bit of training.
And we'll say.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Because you know, for w a footy, it would be
a lot better if you guys had a big percentage
win and moved up the ladder. And I don't expect
the Eagles to care about that, but from a WI
footy perspective, it's probably better if you guys do really well.
Speaker 7 (11:18):
Yeah, hopefully we can just keep winning, win all our
games and we don't have to.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Worry abou percentage because yeah, we probably.
Speaker 7 (11:23):
We probably might have laughed at a bit late percentage.
But we'll see what we can do.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yeah, he's going, what's the city talking about? It's a derby,
all those great memories and so what will you be doing,
big fellow, you be in the.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
Box or yeah, players box, I'll be watching.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yeah, and do you still talk to would you talk
to Harley before the game or you still because the
co checks? He said, the biggest factor in his frustrations
and you know, getting sucked in was that you weren't there.
You weren't there.
Speaker 9 (11:51):
Yeah, especially last year, I feel like you get targeted
a fair bit, and I was there to kind of
protect him and shield him to you know, basically get
him to play his best football young it obviously can
get caught up in it at all.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
So yeah, that that's the annoying part.
Speaker 9 (12:04):
I wish I could be out there to help him,
and I'm going to do everything I can to make
sure I can do that next year.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
He knows where the box is? Does he knows? Look?
Speaker 9 (12:14):
But there's yeah, there is, But there's also like you
kind of want to He's going to get a lot
of information and when you're young as well, you're going
to get a lot of information from the coaches, your
head coach, you know, line coach, all that stuff, your teammates.
You know.
Speaker 8 (12:26):
Yeah, well you don't want to well you don't want.
Speaker 9 (12:27):
To flood them with too much information too, So you
just kind of want to give him encouragement really more
than anything.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
So do you help? Do you hope that the free
amount of crowd doesn't give it to Harley? Who wants
to answer that one? That that because it's a Derby
home game, it's a Docor's home game. I reckon they'll
go for him. Should they hold back. Maybe what are
they going to do?
Speaker 9 (12:47):
Yeah, that's it is that it they do everyone opposition.
Speaker 8 (12:52):
That's just normal. It's white noise. It's white noise.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
All opposition team.
Speaker 9 (12:59):
Support the basis they all boo all the good plays.
That's fine, there's nothing to it. It's just it would be.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Something nice if they didn't. Don't don't you reckon clear?
It's I mean some people boot Sanda at Christmas do anything.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Sometimes you get explainers who have left for whatever reason
and they get booed.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
I go, why are you booming? I don't get it,
but yeah they have for places don't here. It doesn't
matter who.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Gets Harley then Young I don't know, or who does
Harley play on?
Speaker 6 (13:22):
It doesn't.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Man?
Speaker 7 (13:26):
Well, yeah, last time Matt Johnson played on him and
did a great job. And he's sort of he's a
big frame midfielder. I bet he's obviously out this week
with the name so I don't know. We'll say asked
to be subbed.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
But he had the eye the tiger Youngie when he
came on, mate, he was yeah, that was so good.
When you came on young worldn't mate, and and and
Elliott magnificent you have you have had a magnificent career
and you've still got many years to go. But we're
so sorry that you can't finish the year. But just
let you know that just how admired you are. Mate.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
Thank you, aer, I appreciate it all right.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Well, bounce down is to fifteen Saturday for a freer
home game Derby sixty one
