The word legend gets thrown around a lot in the music industry but today Clairsy & Lisa spoke to a performer who deserves that title, the one and only Dionne Warwick.
The guys spoke about her new show which is coming to Perth in January next year, she also gave them the story about how That’s What Friends Are For came together, also her new found fame as the Queen of Twitter and why admires her good friend Snoop Dogg.

you stayed motivated and inspired all these years?

Well, let me say, you know, this has been sixty
two years, so long it's spent.

Yeah, And I have.

Seventy wonderful grandchildren who have kind of kept me abreast
of what was going on musically because I listened to
my peers mostly and they'll come up with a numbit
of a song as Ramyles say this one you know,
and I do, so that's how I say as current
as I am.

Ah, I know you talking that documentary that you made
three years ago, and I know it was a long
time in the making.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Don't make me over? Was its name?
Speaker 4 (01:18):
You have a special link with the Apollo, don't you?
From way back? And is it true you saw that
documentary the first time of the Apollo?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yes, absolutely the same.

How incredible?

That must be very special for you, no doubt, you know,
to first of all, to be able to not only
perform at the Apollo, but to during that period of
time to win amateurate. It's amazing, exactly, Jon.

You've become a bit of an icon on Twitter or
x as they call it now in recent times with
the post, especially once towards the you know, towards other celebs.
Did you ever find out why chance the rapper finds
the need to put the rapper in his name?

We know you're a rapper? I was.

I was shocked that he even responded to meat, not shocked.
He never really answered that.

Well, I mean Snoop he's a friend of yours? Any
Snoop dog?

Oh yeah, she is. He's a wonderful young man.

I love Snoop. It was all under the Olympics. It's great.

Yeah, he's grown into quite an entrepreneur. Yes, yeah, he's
become quite maine now.

It really is sixty two years of performing. Is there
a song you're sick of playing?

Yet? How do you argue with success that's true?

I was lucky enough twenty years ago, a couple of
twenty years ago to introduce you at sandal for Winery
for a couple of nights in two thousand and four
with the WA Symphony Orchestra, and as you walked on stage,
the crowd erupted both nights. How does that? How does
that feel? With that love from the fans.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
It's sensational, absolutely amazing to know that people forsaw have enjoyed.
But I give them musically, and I appreciate that I've
given them so I you know, it's the rewards that
you get all the good work.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
That you do.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
You've given of yourself in a lot of ways. You're
you're very well known for your philanthropy, especially when it
comes to aids, charities, stuffing done with the un You
were honored by a fire earlier this year. Fore decades
of work. So I congratulations on that. But that moment
with Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder, and that's
what friends are for. How was it getting them to

collaborate with you? Was it hard or were they? Did
you make one phone call and they said, Dion, I mean.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, basically, you know. I ran into Elston actually in
grocery store.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Real, yeah, I'm shopping at the shop. He was shopping.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
He's doing a birthday party for manager. And I approached
him and I said, Hey, what are you doing tomorrow night?
And he said, well, I'm playing the party. I said, well,
are you working tomorrow night against this party? He said no.
I said, well, I know where you're going to be
and I told him what I was doing and he
said absolutely. Yeah. Called and he said I will be

home and I said, then you're going to come right
to the studio and go out. So I picked her
up on my car.

Oh god, I think very much. I'm not leaving till
you get in the car.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah.

Fantastic.

And did Elizabeth Tyler really say I want you to
give us the song? In other words, all the prophets
is that how it was.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yes, she certainly did. She said, yeah, can I self
before men lass? Yeah, yeah, And we went into a
little corner and she said, listen, that song is something
I feel would be very beneficial to the eighth problem.
Could you would you consider giving me that song as
the anthem for the territor BORINGZATIONI I'm starting to call them. Well,

let's ask the other three folks in there. They had
as much to do with just as I do. And
we all figured that we all have felt the sting
of age and by talent just going to make a difference,
find that and that's what we did.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yea to this day, very generous, No, you it's.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Something that we felt we had no choice but to do. Yeah,
you know, we got people to understand what we were
doing and why we were doing it, and how they
said be of help.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, well you'd all lost too many friends already, hadn't
you by that stage.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Because people don't understand people, you know, today a lot
don't understand just how controversial it was at the time
in terms of people talking about it and understanding it.
And we had to get that, you know, discussion going.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Absolutely and music has a very magical way of doing that. Absolutely,
but the song did.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yes, Yes, you've won six Grammys over the many years.
Which one means the most to you? Or are they
all like your children?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Oh?

Yeah, you know the the very many bull the songs
that have gone at the praise of my peers was
that during Share the Time to Live won the grant me.
That's how we were voted in by those who are
in the industry as well. And it's a wonderful feeling
to know that your peers think that, yeah, you did
it this year, so you deserve it.

We're all said. By the loss of Burt Backerg last year,
what an incredible life. But he just kept coming up
with those gifts, didn't those wonderful songs?
Speaker 2 (06:27):
He came up with wonderful melodies. And we shall not
forget how David us those words for me to sing.
And if we were not for how Baby, we'd all
be humming instead.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Of saying whistling, whistling or something I did.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
I had a great joy of seeing Burt back around
a few years ago, and it was such an amazing
show because so many of those incredible songs, like I
Say a Little Prayer and all squeezed into a medley
because there was so many, too many, so songs to do.

Direct songs were written for me and bye bye now
and you know much appreciated.
