Elliot told Barra and Smiley what it was like to be in the coaches box for the game plus the latest on Oscar Allen's time off from the club and the big question, are West Coast going after Marcus Bontempelli?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Good morning, morning, morning, smiling moling yowie.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
It was almost a very very very good Friday, wasn't it.
We nearly had it.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, it's not good enough, is it?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I heard there was a new bloke in the coaches
box that made all the difference, was making all the
moves suggest So you're in there, were you?

Speaker 3 (00:50):
But you hold yourself back. Attempted to say it's hard.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
It's hard to separate yourself from being a supporter and
then carving your frustrationians at the same time, and then
being on your best behavior in the coaches box.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
No cheering, had suggestions. Did you think up things?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
And I and sometimes I ask you for a couple
of things here and there. You know, the brakes. Yeah,
they're just try and pick your brains what he's saying. So, yeah,
there was a few things I threw up, but whether
or not they got taken on board, that's that's another thing.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
I remember once I was in there with malt House
and someone was going nuts and it mix said.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
There's only room for one lunatic in this box. Yeah,
you do have to hold yourself, you do. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, So it's so good. And Gov back that was
so good, wasn't it. It just makes so much difference.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
He looked good, didn't he. Yeah, he was just a
general in defense and fucking everything as well. So yeah,
and Jakie as well, started off really good.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, really really good. So that's what Smiley was saying.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, in the first quarter, four goals and then and
then he was I suppose what happened after that.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
He probably had to play up the ground a bit
and stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I gave him. We're just talking about this, but I
gave him the mos. I just was being a bit
cheeky and setting the coaches box that had the break. Well,
if he continues this, he's going to kick sixteen for
the game. And then that was it. Another one never
saw him again put the big mos on him.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
You've done the maths of It's very good to me.
Peter was good for them too, wasn't he a big
comeback goals?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yeah, he looked hard to stop.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, it's hard, hard for the young blokes did and
even trying to seep off and cover him and all
the rest of it. I'll tell you what was interesting
was Oscar Allen. He wasn't at the game, right, Yes, yeah,
they gave him a couple of days off so he
could actually even go away. Tell us about that? Is
that is that sort of I mean that has happened before.
Interesting way to go about it too, completely decompressed spose.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, he had a big couple of weeks really, Oscar
so and the club just sort of said, look to
what you need to do, take whatever time you need,
look after yourself, and we're here when you need. So yeah,
Oscar did that and saw him at the football club
actually Saturday morning and we run together and did a
few things. So yeah, yeah, he's fully committed and invested
in the football club and the playing groups. So until

(03:15):
such time, Yeah, he's hopeful that he'll put his name
forward this week and can play some good football for us.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
He'd be handy in against the Hawks. He might have
to actually come up against Tommy barrass too. That'll be
that'll be interesting. Yeah, we're going to first start. Would
you shake hands or you yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I mean yeah, yeah, it'd be shake hands and see
at the end of the game.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Mate. Now.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
The other big story that broke on the weekend was
that there was a talk that West Coast we're talking
to Marcus Bonton Pelly. Yes, now I'm thinking it's this
Yo bond Ry hewittt TK.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I don't think I've got a midfield Yeah, it wou
look to be honest, I don't think I get the
feeling that bonds are very, very very very loyal to investment.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Ye, very loyal to the I can't see him because
he's just explained to us. Because he's a full blown
free agent, he sort of has to look around a bit.
Does Collingwood's right into him apparently, because that's that's how
you sort of get the biggest best to you, I suppose,
isn't it.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah it is.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
You manage it probably goes shopping and you try to
get what's best for yourself as well. But then at
the same time, you if in his position and bonds position,
you also have an element of loyalty to the football
club and generally most of the time you just want
what's fair and reasonable.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, being a one club player, is that still a
big thing? I mean it sounds like to him it
would be a big thing. He's probably the greatest bulldog
of all time.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
He is. I feel like he's that type of player.
But then there's also the element of when it comes
to it, like a lot of players have got bills
to pay, mouths to feed, and all starting to turn
into a bit like a business really, So at the
end of the day, players have one contest away from losing,
you know, majority of that, Like I've seen veners Chep

(05:12):
all those boys have one contest of football when they're
cooked for the rest of their lives.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
So good point point did If that had been a
worse need could have been the end.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Of his exactly. So at some point players want security
and they want they want that sort of contract that
can help set them up as well to a certain
extent and they don't have to worry about it.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
So because twenty nine, he's probably got two or three,
maybe four years more.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Yeah, exactly, that's it.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, exactly. So Look there's certain players as well. I'm
lucky unfortunately I'm on I've got an insurance policy, but
some players don't have that either. Some people aren't as
fortunate enough to be on the policy that I'm on now.
And yeah, there's there's yeah, Yeah, there's there's some Yeah,
there's a lot of gray areas unfortunately at the moment
with a lot of things when it comes to stuff

(05:59):
like that's our players are shopping around and trying to
get what's best for them and what's the best deal.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Well, we won't talk about the ANFL Players Association here,
but that's something that needs to be looked at, isn't it?

Speaker 3 (06:09):
And it is for all players?

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Yeah, it is. And I've spoken about it before, I
think a couple of years ago, and there is there
is elements of I think they're starting to push it
out now and starting to really try and address it
with players to get on it and to protect themselves
because you know a lot of people get insurance, sorry
income protection in all kinds.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Of well, players going around that aren't insured. That's that's incredible.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
There's an element of like the AFL obviously has a
Hardship fund and everything like that, and then you know
if you're in within a certain super this is a
deep rabbit hole. We can talk about this for hours,
but yeah, there's super as well for some players if
they do have an injury, that will look after them.
But there's still an element of some players is still
a bit in the dark about it.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
That's for head injuries, he smiley.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
If you've got some audio there of Andrew mcwalters who
was on the news last night and we've got Ryan
Daniels to ask him about about the bond about Marcus
Bonton Pelly.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Haven't listened yoe as to how he answered it.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
We saw a report from the West Australian overnight that
you guys might be looking into Marcus Bontonpelli as a
recruiting and meeting him for a coffee in Melbourne this week.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
We're only flying one day out for the game, so
we'll be a bit short on time this week unfortunately.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Watch that is the biggest straight that I ever heard,
that door open.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
That's very good just because it would be people within
the club that would be wanting us to speak to
Bonton Pelly.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
When I say asked the West Coasts.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Hey, mate, what about your mate Hewitt a A lot yees, mate,
you've been doing I know you've been working hard with him,
and he's a chip.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Off the old block. But two disposals.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah, then mostly in the second half. First he made
a statement, didn't he He did?

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, and it was really good to say. First half,
I think he touched it four times as well, so
he was trying to work his way into it, and
it felt like just watching him as well, running patterns,
the way he was sort of playing his game, it
looked like that he was going to break out at
some point throughout the game. So and then eventually it
happened in the in the second half, which is good
to see. I mean, he's been it's been a tough

(08:12):
couple of years for Elijah and to seem sort of
get a little bit of a reward for that, it's
good to see.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, and bodes well so well for the future. Well,
it's the Hawks next day? What day are you playing
the Hawks on Sunday?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Nice break at Marvel Stadium obviously, Tommy Barassus, Oscar Allen
And what sort of reception will Tommy get from from
his teammates?
