Dowered by the radio WAB from ninety six air m
to whereever you're listening today.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
This is Clearsy and Lisa's podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Coming up on the podcast today, comedian Reese Nicholson joined us.
His new show is called Reese Reese Reese.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
We talked to Michelle may night about the changes at
the IBA, and she told me I was on.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
And we took your calls on when you remained calm
under pressure, and when you said that I remained carp.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Michelle Yates, You're a legend, superstar. What I mean.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
You know, if you must watch a plane make an
emergency landing like that on the water, you want to
watch Michelle at the controls. This is the of course,
the story yesterday about two people making it sure after
a light plane crashed into the sea at Leyton Beach.
The engine evidently just cut out. They'd been Michelle and
her son. They were on their way from Carnarvon to

(00:50):
Jandercott Airport aircraft they've been to see the eclipse, so
it was just after five o'clock. There was enough people
on the beach that they managed to catch it on Cameron.
You may have seen it on the news last night
she sent out a may day call because the engine
was behaving strangely. Next minute, there she is landing on
the water, so clever, like it was a round way.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Because if you get the angle wrong and the nose
goes in and you start slip's over and then it's
good night, nurse.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Exactly if you start doing summersaults, yeah, it's not going
to end well.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
But they didn't.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
And you get out of the open the door and
you swim to shore.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
But they both popped out and swam to shore.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, quite incredible. And what incredible you know, under pressure?
That is remaining under in control under pressure. That is
just incredible. And we thought we'd open the lines today
list and.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Tell us unexpecting stories of the caliber.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
You know, I landed a plane on the water, you know,
I mean, what what was his name?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
The pilot in on the Hudson.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Oh yeah, you Tom Hanks here, that guy.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
You want Tom Haggs to always fly the place. When
have you remained calm under pressure?

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Hey, how are you going good?

Speaker 6 (01:59):
Well?

Speaker 5 (01:59):
I had a couple, both of them driving, so I
guess it's a kudos to my dad for the way
he taught me to drive. The first one was I
was driving along the railway line. I was on the
straight road. I had my hobby and my kids in
the car with me, and a big truck just came
out of nowhere on my left. I had nowhere to
go because on the straight road except for there was

(02:20):
a gap between the island. Yes, so I just as
calmly as anything. I didn't even think about it, just
swung out into the other side lane, went back onto
my own side, and I was just saying to God
that there was no cars coming the other way. Yes,
so I was able to do that. But I said
a few words to the trucking Yeah, no, no, I

(02:42):
had both hands on the wheel. I did use my word.
On the second time, I was driving up north and
we'd just gone through a cyclone. I had my daughter,
my son, and my granddaughter in the car and left
me get there. I didn't realize that the roads were

(03:02):
closed because of the flooding. Just going got coming up
to a floodway and there's water everywhere, and I said, oh,
do I do it? Do I don't? Our truck went
through in front of me. I thought, I'll just follow
his little the path that he's making. Of course, I started.
I had a commodore loads to the ground commodore. At
this time things started planing that my car started playing

(03:25):
as water was splashing up everywhere, and I just calmly
stayed behind truck. Got a little bit closer to the
truck about one hundred and fifty. Yeah, it was like
a lake about one hundred and fifty two hundred meters
until the water the road rose a bit.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
I was telling you, I was really panicking because I
could hardly see where I was going. I finished it,
got through safely, big sigh of relief, and my granddaughter goes,
wall Man, let's do that again.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
That's a once alone, well kind of under pressure.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
It sounds like you with yours commodore, you should have
been part of the Holding Precision Racing driving team.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I wouldn't go that far.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Pretty good.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
When did you remain calm under pressure? Viki?

Speaker 7 (04:09):
But this as a commercial pilot. She had a fair
seat on the plane and she.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Said, oh, did you want to come.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
For I'm going to drop the passages off at their
country location. And I said, yeah, great, no worries. But
they did predict there was going to be thunderstorms that
afternoon and I think, oh, yeah, right, you know where thunderstorms.
So get on the plane that we landed, drop the
passengers off and heading back home. Nice long flight, and

(04:36):
then I remember, what's the good Over the hills, I
just saw bolts of lightnings everywhere, and I just went.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 8 (04:45):
And it was like we hit a brick wall with
the With the rain, the plane started vibrating really badly,
and I could see bolts of lightning everywhere, and I'm thinking,
oh my gosh, we're going.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
To Yeah, I can understand movie storm.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (05:06):
Anyway, so I said to the co pilot, I said,
you know, if we get hit by one of those
faults of lightly, oh my gosh.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
And my sister's fine.

Speaker 7 (05:13):
This plane.

Speaker 8 (05:14):
They very recarm and I normally would have been vomiting
from the.

Speaker 7 (05:18):
Motion of the plane and the wheel was the vibration
of the plane was unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (05:23):
To say, very calm, but I was so terrified. I
just gripped the handles of the seat.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
I'm thinking, oh my god, I mean and then I
said to myself, God, if we land safely, I am
going to kiss the ground when we get off the plane.
I'm going to kiss the ground as we land, you
did that.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
All number of the promises.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
It was you, your sister and a co pilot, because
you were sitting behind them going we're going to die,
We're going to die.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
I was.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
I was more than I was terrified.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
I think I was like a ghost in.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
The plane at all.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Did anyone say the words Vicky, you're not helping.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
All?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
I mean, the current part of.

Speaker 7 (06:02):
Took to me and he just I think he just
saw help what I want?

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah, thanks Vicky, Debbie and Clarkson, When will you calm
under pressure?

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Hi?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Morning.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
I'd actually started to work. I've been working at the
bank for about a week and it was Friday night.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
We're getting ready to close.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Up, and I saw my manager calmly walking towards there
were the guy next to her, and thought it was
a training, like a training schedule. Yeah, And then the
next thing, the guy runs up to me, shes a
gun in my face and started screaming that he wants
the money and to just give.

Speaker 6 (06:37):
It him now.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
And to be honest, I think it was the training
from work. I just stayed really calm, gave him what
money we had in the desk. It was an open desk,
so we had thinking fort of those or around us
and just calmly pushed the button for myself and my
partner who was next to me, gave him the money.
He was screaming wanted more. To just open the drawer
and show him that we had no more.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
And then he run around the run around.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
The branch and locally run out of the branch and
run away.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
My god, it's possibly the only time.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Time the training kicked in. That's what I do. Control
the breathing.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
That's the big.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
One though, I mean remaining come in a bag, hold up.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Well, thanks de.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
More Lisa More podcasts.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Reece Reese is the name of the show.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Reese Nichol said, it's going to be at the Asta
Theater on the sixth of my tickets for a two
through a ticket tech.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
He is with us now, Good morning.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Race, good morning peace.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
May I be maybe one of the first to say
to you happy birthday for tomorrow.

Speaker 9 (07:52):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
What a sweet tree.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
I have just noticed that it is a tomorrow. When
you're at that, it's a you don't want me to
say the age pop No, I know, I know.

Speaker 9 (08:06):
I'm thirty three, which I'm thirty three, which is like
such a not like milestone, and I'm so I'm glad
it is. Once you're in your thirties you get years
away from milestones anymore.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
But thirty three is a milestone, especially thirty three and
a third parties celeb Yeah, the show.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Is called Race, Race, Race. Why Why is one race
not enough?

Speaker 5 (08:26):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (08:26):
Look, there's so many different reasons, Like, first of all,
you have to name your show about six months before
you even come close to writing it or thinking of
anything about it.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
So okay, I just thought.

Speaker 9 (08:36):
What I looked in the mirror, I looked at another mirror,
and I looked in another mirror. But also there's it's
kind of a camp reference to uh there's a and look,
it's too early in the morning for to talk about something.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
So camp right now.

Speaker 9 (08:48):
But there's a Judy Garland album called Judy, Judy, Judy Yeah,
and it's called the Greatest Entertainer of All Time. And
I thought it was quite funny if I called myself
ree three three and to the Great Yeah yeah, and
to the Great and yeah hey same she you know,
she she died young too.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Anyway, what time of date is? I'm always happy to
talk about Judy.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
What a legend.

Speaker 9 (09:11):
Yeah, so you know, and it's just such a Yeah,
it's such a it's a really good album. And so
the poster image is also kind of a copy of
her poster image as well. And it's just every now
and then someone notices, but mostly people don't. And I
love the every It's almost like a barometer in my
audiences if I'm meeting people afterwards. And like, by the way,
I love the Judy reference. Ate one of one of
my people.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Carry Grant say in a movie somewhere or something.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
About ju Judy, Judy did Judy, And I can't not
too sure what.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
That's from, but I carry Grant style.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Oh carry grand.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Last time I saw you, you were co hosting the
Sydney Will prior to open gig, the Big Concert. It
was a massive event and there were three or four
of you hosting that night. But did you know was
it a well kept secret about Kylie bringing Danny out
as in the monogue sistence, Yes, it was.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
They didn't do that.

Speaker 9 (09:57):
In rehearsals. We didn't know, and we were like watching
the rehearsals happen and like there was a code where
we knew something was going to happen. I'm you brought
this up. I've been wanting to talk about this, like
I've never done a job like that before, like a
kind of live television proper like you know, usually people
wheel me out, I say something vaguely offensive and then
they wheel me up. But I was there all night

(10:19):
and terrified that I've don Fay the wrong thing. And
we knew something was going to happen. And there was
a code name. I forget what it was like it
was something like Judy, and I thought it was going
to be like Jason Donovan or something I knew, like.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I knew something.

Speaker 9 (10:32):
Yeah, yeah, but no, it was a good it was
a good surprise. It meant that it was quite genuine.
I think they cut to a shot of us going wow.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
And the whole crab were going that's and yeah, Kylie
and Danny both looked about twenty nine.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Very clever.

Speaker 9 (10:46):
Yeah, wild matching outfits, yea, a bit of fun. I
always wonder in those situations, did did Kylie like call
Danny and was she like, look, I'm doing this pride gig.
Do you want to like? I got I can give
you two hundred bucks and I don't know, We've got
some food voucher for something? Or is Daddy calling Kylie
about it? Did they do it through their managers? What happening?

Speaker 2 (11:08):
I like to think it came up at the lunch table,
you know, on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Their mum brought it up for something. I loved it.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
When you go to sister, you know you don't take
your system.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
I don't think Danny offered Kylie two hundred because it
probably wouldn't be that handy for kyl You're gonna know.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yes, Now, tell us about the show, receurss frees. What
what are you covering? What topics?

Speaker 9 (11:30):
Oh, look, it's all it's just me banging on about
myself for an hour. Really, that's what people bye the
It's like it's my show from last year. I chewed
it last year, and I'm quite proud of it, to
be honest. Like it won a few awards and I figured,
you know, let's try and squeeze some more cash out
of this horse before it dies. And but yeah, it's

(11:53):
it's I think I like it because it's the most
jokes I've ever been out of squeeze into a show.
I think, like an it's my aim for it was
because you know, to it last year for the first time.
My aim was to not talk about COVID at all, right,
like to be able to get through it and just
not because like I think, we're obviously it's still happening
and we can't forget that and we've got to stay

(12:14):
safe and all that kind of stuff. But you don't
want to go to a comedy show and just hear
someone hang on about COVID for an hour and ten minutes. So, yeah,
that was the kind of main name and yeah, just
kind of I talk about I came out as non
binary last year, but that's not what the show's about.
I purposely didn't want it to be about that. Yeah,
just lots of stuff, Like I talk about how everyone
has a weird relationship with their dad. That's a major

(12:36):
section of it. I talk There's a bit that's become
quite strangely popular is people I've got a whole thing
about those kind of shops that divorced women own in
like small towns, you know, those shops that are just
like shops, just full of like stuff, all sorts of
gifty made by local terrible artitud. Yeah, chairs that don't stack.

(13:02):
And it's to the point where people have started like
sending me photos they've seen in small town. It's quite
like I'm really making a connection to people with bad stores.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
They're almost not for profit, but they don't mean to be,
but not.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
That kind of for profit not for profit because they
don't sell anything.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (13:19):
Absolutely, it's usually like an older woman wearing like a
very bright shirt and huge like pearls that look like
plaster feed and she like she works on the local
art board something. Kids have all moved out, but she's
trying to hook you up with all of them.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Well, she will clutch those pearls. On the sixth of
May at the show at the Asta Theater. We are
running out of time, Reese, where we must go.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Thank you for joining us this morning. Thank you very much.

Speaker 9 (13:46):
See you go to the Aste.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Okay, so major overhaul has been announced for the Reserve
Bank and to tell us exactly what it all means,
Michelle Maynard from the Carbon Group. Hello Michelle, Michelle, welcome,
coming to our to explain to us this is an
interesting one Flaman's terms.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
What exactly is the overhaul?

Speaker 6 (14:05):
Yeah, so basically the Reserve Bank. We all know it's
our friend. We love them. Every month they meet and
they set the monetary policy, which basically for most everyday
people is interest rates. That's what they do. But we
know over the past twelve months they haven't really done
what they said they were going to do, which was
not puch interest rates until twenty twenty four. So what

(14:26):
they're doing is they're splitting out a separate monetary policy board,
which means will be only eight people who are going
to be setting interest rates and what the government does
in terms of monetary policy, and they're going to be
changing how they do that. So the hope is not
that it's going to bring interest rates down, because that
might not be the effect, but it means that we're
going to be able to understand what they do better.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Said a real kick in the teeth of Philip Lohani's team,
you know, because it's not a vote of confidence.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
In them, is it.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
Well, if somebody else was brought in to do your
job here, you probably didn't think you would do on
it that well. And that's basically what this is about.
Is he said interest rates were't going to go up
into a twenty twenty four and we've had ten in
a row, and so with this new board, they're only
going to meet eight times a year, so once every
six weeks, So we're going to have to set our
clocks a little bit differently to when we watch for
that announcement. But rather than being a one page press

(15:17):
release after this meeting to say why they've made a decision,
the board is actually going to have to front a
media conference and I answer questions and also disclose who
voted for the interest rate rise and who didn't. So
it's going to be really interesting because we're going to
be able to rather just lump blame on one person,
good old Phil, we're going to see everybody there and

(15:38):
understand what I understand, the reasons why they're making the
decisions they're making, rather than.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Just telling us decisions being made.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
I guess most people with the mortgage's question is what
does this just essentially mean for me?

Speaker 6 (15:50):
What I'm really happy about with is and it doesn't
come into effect until twenty twenty four, so we've got
some time. But like yesterday, I got another letter from
my bank to say that my interest rate was going
up again, And the last time the Reserve Bank made
that decision was two months ago. So by getting this
at once every six weeks, not once every four. It's
going to do two things. One is going to allow

(16:10):
the economy to feel the effects of that a little
bit more so we're going to be able to understand.
But also for mortgage told us it's going to allow
us to feel the effects and get prepared and not
get these letters months after the decision because the banks
are trying to play catch up.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Yeah, I found that I'm getting I'm getting the letter
before the other one that went you know that changed
last time has even gone into effects.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
They've changed.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Your mouth's coming out getting a letter saying there's more
and I'm totally confused.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
I mean, it's selling the letters. I'm sure that would
take millions out of the economy in terms of post anyway,
you know, I know a great idea.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
I'm a little bit baffled by this whine now with
Elbow and Jim Charmers. And why didn't this happen with
Hawk competing in eighty nine when the interest rates were
over seven percent?

Speaker 4 (16:53):
What's changed?

Speaker 6 (16:55):
Well, I was four in nineteen eighty nine. I'm I'm
tally sure what happened back then, mate.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
But you didn't get that.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
I'm but I think I think.

Speaker 6 (17:05):
It's a long, long time coming, definitely a long time coming,
and it's got bipartisan support to which is what I
love is that the government is looking at these not
from a political perspective, but both sides are getting on
board to make these changes in principle. Once obviously the
legislation goes to government, we'll see what they five out
over them after.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
That, Michelle, all this aside, where do you think interest
rates will go for the rest of the year.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
Well, interestingly, a couple of the majors have quietly, quietly
dropped their long term fixed interest rates, and what that
normally means is they think interest rates are going to
be coming down. So look, I think there may be one,
possibly two more upwards rate rises for this year, depending
on how inflation goes, and then by the end of
the year we should hopefully start seeing them come back

(17:48):
down again.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
Right all right, Michelle, two board meetings, all right, fantastic.
Always lovely to talk to you and get a little
explaining Michelle's plaining, have a great guy, great great date.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
And my favorite line on the show this week, Cleesy,
I was four.

Manslaughter charges against Dalik Baldwin are being dropped. He will
not be going to trial in the Rush shooting case.
His lawyers released a statement overnight saying we're pleased with
the decision to dismiss the case against Dalik Baldwin and
we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances
of this tragic accident. Baldwin had been charged with two
counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Helena Hutchins

During an interview at a film festival this week, he
says Mark Wahlberg was the first to turn him down.
Johnny Depp was another one. He also named brothers Luke

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Oh they regret it now, Yeah, Oh, I regret it.
I regret doing Batman.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Evidently Wahlburg and Depf were both being eyed for Linus,
the role that ended up going to Matt Damon.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill could win a very
prestigious songwriting award just a mere thirty eight.

DiCaprio's cousin This Is a Funny Story has been accused
of swindling a film company out of more than one
hundred and sixty thousand dollars out of Porsche right by

(20:31):
claiming he could persuade Leo.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
To star in one of its films.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
No, apparently, the cousin has been providing a stream of
fictitious updates on his efforts to bring them.

Speaker 4 (20:39):

is my first thought, the swindler.
