Hayden Young joined Lisa and Barra after that huge win against the Gold Coast Suns last weekend. Barra asked Hayden if the team went out to celebrate at Jupiters Casino after the game. Lisa had a fun statistic from the game as well and Barra talked about two significant moments towards the end of the game involving Shai Bolton and Andrew Brayshaw which got the team over the line. Plus Hayden tells the guys what it was like in the coaches box last week with Justin Longmuir and Barra also asked Hayden if the bye this weekend for The Dockers has come at the wrong time.

Just a heads up close he's off six today, so
warning Will Robinson. I've got Barra here out with me.
Hello and Smiley as well.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Now free.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I beat the Suns by eleven points at People First
Stadium on the Gold Coast on Saturday. Fantastic wins seventy
five to sixty four. Bar You had a question, no
a statement.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
It says here its official flag mantle is back on.
But I wasn't going to say that, Young because I
know that you've changed your tactics. Now it's one week
at a time, and I get that. I really reckon
that's great. But you were on the Gold Coast, so
that's it's a massive win. At least just mentioned. Did
you head out afterwards or you know they still up
Jupiter's Casino.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Most of the boys actually actually flew home. But it
was a good feeling in the rooms after the game.
I think we all knew it was pretty tough to
win up there, and gold Coaster are in good form
this year, so yeah, it was a pretty gutsy win
by the boys, and yeah, we all really enjoyed it
after the game. And yeah, most of the lads headed home.
A few people headed in different directions because we obviously
got the got the buy this week, so the boys

(01:31):
had a few days off. So nah, but everyone was
in high spirits.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Football loves the statistic. I like this one. Gold Coast
to the number one team in the competition for scoring
from forward half intercepts, but on Saturday it was Freo
who generated more forward half intercepts, converting there into the
scoring advantage. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
No, it was definitely a scene of the game. I
thought our pressure was really evident throughout the whole game,
and I suppose the condition sometimes helped that went a
little at slippery, but I thought, you know, everyone board
into our pressure method and I thought we pressured them
really well and we're up to score. Of course turnovers
and as a resort kicked some goals, So now I
thought our team d and our pressure was on all

(02:13):
day and that's part of our DNA, and it's good
that we've been able to sort of find that consistently
in the last few weeks.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Now, g Man take us through this. The last moments
of the game, two massive incidents, two big moments that
needed to be one to win the game. Andy brace
Shaw raw courage could have been knocked out, and then
Shaye Bolton Stackle after Jacko Shankety's kick, he would have
been the most relieved block on the ground. I reckon
when it went across the ground Bolton Stackle. Those two

(02:44):
moments so significant, weren't.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
They They were massive. I was in the box, in
the coach's box, and it was pretty tense up there
in those last few minutes because we knew they were coming.
But yeah, and he just stood up in a big moment.
And I suppose in that passage of play it felt like,
you know, we had the ball in sort of our
forward forward half, but we were struggling to get numbers
to the contest. And I think something that he does

(03:06):
really well is he's really hard work and his work
rates et least and he was able to get across
and help and win a really critical contest for us
and then Bolts was just was just an unreal effort.
I mean, no one thought he was going to get there,
and he just mowed him down and essentially won the
game for us. And yeah, it was pretty funny when
Doug had kicked that ball across the goal and everyone

(03:27):
in the coach's box sort of their hearts dropped with
that on and then Bolts just made a massive play.
And I think there was moments like that throughout the
whole day really where we just had people stand up
in big moments and make a play. And yeah, it
was really pleasing that we were able to do that
away from home and without the sort of the home
crowd behind us, and we were able to bring our

(03:48):
own energy.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Hey, when he was banging the desk because you were
in the box, that's good to know because I've never
seen Justin so excited and banging the desk like that.
I hope you didn't hurt your knee or anything under
the desk. But what did you think when he was
doing that, because you don't see that from Justin very often.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
No, he was. He was pretty happy on the weekend,
to be honest. Well, I thought we played a pretty
good brand of footy and most of the stuff most
of the time in the box was pretty positive and
there was a few things we weren't getting done at
stoppage that was frustrating a few of us in the box.
But he was pretty up and about. But I think
when he when he knew they were coming, you can
probably say he was pretty tense because he was on

(04:26):
his feet. Yeah, I think it was just a massive
relief when you know, we got that goal and sort
of icter game and I just showed how much it
means to everyone involved with the free clubs.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Did you yet a little bit? Come on, young? Did
you yell out a little bit? Did you scream?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
I did. I've been trying to keep quite all. It's
not It's not my job in there to be causing
disruption Rucas. That was the moment where I was able
to let go of it.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
So it's pretty hard Ruckus allowed. You're in Melbourne because
you know, spend some time with the family because the
dock has have the buy this weekend, But sitting eighth
on the ladder and the games after the bye are
all looking I dare say, very winnable games North Essendon's
and Kildren and Sydney. It must be a very happy
little team.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, certainly it's nice to be back playing footy that
we want to play. And yeah, we set ourselves up
now to stay at home for a few weeks, which
is also a benefit. We travel a lot of the team,
and I think the boys really we're going to appreciate
having some time back in Perth and playing some home games.
So yeah, we've set ourselves up now and this next

(05:35):
few days is a great opportunity to reset. Just relax
the minds and bodies and get ready to.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Go reset now.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
One for the radio news Hayden, just preparing You did
the buy come at the wrong time, my friend? Because
you guys are on fire one three straight. It's happened before,
isn't it? Where you go? If we could just roll
on and smash teams? What can you give us there,
my friend?

Speaker 3 (06:02):
I don't know. I don't know if there's ever the
right time for I think if you asked a few
of the boys, particularly after that game, when they've pulled
up a little bit sore, I think they'd say it's
come at the right time, I reckon. So yeah, it's
that's certainly good for a few sore bodies throughout the group.
And but I mean, I know what you mean when
in terms of we've got a bit of momentum and
the challenge is now can we keep it going? And

(06:25):
I suppose that's the exciting thing that we got ahead
of us. Yes, as a group of telling that we
might have not done well in the past, but we're
really looking forward to the opportunity. And I feel like
we've certainly found a bit of a formula or we
know what's working well from us and we just want
to keep the ball rolling.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Let's say you're spoiled for by choice at the moment,
so enjoy the break, enjoy the buye, and we'll see
you back in town next week.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
See you next week.
