Hayden Young dropped by the studio after Freo’s huge win last week and their first ever against Port in Adelaide. He said it felt awesome to come back with the victory and is gearing up for a tough clash with the Brisbane Lions. On Nat Fyfe’s retirement, Hayden reckoned the timing’s perfect, giving the team a massive boost and the chance for a fairytale finish that would mean a lot to the fans. They’re also hoping to smash the Derby attendance record. As for whether he’ll be out there tomorrow, he kept everyone guessing. Before heading off, Hayden wished Clairsy all the best and handed over a signed Dockers guernsey.

Younger morning.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Mate, Good morning, Hello, what a week.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
What a week week it's been and it's still going.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
I know it's a very exciting time.

Speaker 5 (00:31):
Obviously, big game this week, and yeah, obviously good to
get over the line last week, but some a lot
of things happening in the world.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
That was such an exciting game because all of a sudden,
the docors are the fourth quarter come from behind win specialists.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
I know, I know, what do you want to be?

Speaker 5 (00:47):
It is a great thing to have, but probably to
the dislike of a lot of our fans because it
can be quite stressful. But it's good that we're coming
back and winning. It is annoying sometimes we get put
in those situations. But I mean one of the positives
is when we look at each other that three quart
a time, we know that we've got a lot of
belief in ourselves. That we're going to be able to
find a way to win, and it's a good thing

(01:08):
to have when we're coming up against teams in the
back end of the year where we know probably going
to be some close games or that's probably what we're expecting.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
So it's good to know that we can run out games.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
And yeah, I was pleasing on the weekend to be
able to find a way despite you know, the first
three quarters probably not going the way we wanted.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, I've never seen the word defibrillator mentioned in so
many social posts as I have question on the weekend,
But to have the captain come back and play again,
get his body right and come back, and then drift
down forward and take that mark and then kick the
goal that win, it's pretty amazing.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
I was saying, I was watching it home, and I was, yeah,
I was very stressed, and then went into that mark,
I just erupted and there was I couldn't help but
think about Leo Barry.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yeah, that's what I thought, drifting across the Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
It was just a massive mark, and I suppose I
wasn't expecting to see him down there either. I know
it's part of our game plan, but I think I
was like, I was watching for Vossi because he sort
of had the hot hand.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Where's Vossi? Where's Vossi?

Speaker 5 (02:05):
And then out of nowhere, Moos just tastes this amazing
mark and then goes back and kicks a goal, and yeah, we're.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Able to hold on.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
But yeah, it was a great moment and it was
very clutched by the skipper.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
It really wasn't anything to not love about the game.
Because also it's the first time you've ever beaten Port
in Adelaide. So single box was ticked, including the team
now sitting forth on the AFL ladder. If you can
hold onto that spot with two games to go, one
of them being a real tough one this weekend, you

(02:36):
get the double chance in the finals.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
I mean it's yeah, it's quite appealing, very appealing, And yeah,
I suppose our focus at the moment is just on
this week because we know that that's the most important
one at the moment, and if we can win this
game puts us in a great position to sort of,
you know, push towards the back end of the year
and solidify a spot in that top four, which is
what we want obviously. So yeah, it is quite a

(02:59):
p But obviously we can't get to hurt ourselves because
we've got a very tough opponent this weekend who've been
playing some pretty good footy, particularly away from home, so
they're going to bring the challenge.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
For Brisbane to have a couple of losses though this
time of year isn't it, And obviously you won't be
thinking about that as opposed to the other don't Locke
Neil at the moment, So that does upset the apple
cart with it.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
That sucks for him Premiership.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
Star, Yeah, but you definitely can't underestimate him. They've got
a lot of depth in that midfield and sometimes a
team coming off of a bad loss is you know,
a bit scary because they're going to want to respond
and we're going to expect that. And I think every
game you play it now, you've got to expect your
team's best. I think on the weekend we probably started
against Port and thought maybe this is a bit easier.

(03:40):
We're obviously going pretty well, and we got a reality
check in that second quarter. So you can't get ahead
of yourself in this game. And it doesn't matter who's
in or out for them, you've got to expect their
best would.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Have been beaten by ninety eight and then eighty eight
points and then they kicked eight goals in a quarter
or something.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, it was insane. It was insane.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
That fine retiring love a fairy tale and I mean
it just it's just too much, isn't it. I mean,
is this the extra fuel to the fire that the
team needs to Yeah? I don't think you need any
more fuel to the amazing It.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Has come in a good time, to be fair, because
we obviously at the point end of the year, and
that extra bit of motivation is you know, pretty powerful,
even someone like me who's going through another rehab and
I just want to get back and play and to
see sort of his resilience this year and his drive
to get back and to see to end with them. Yeah,
see how much it would mean to him. It's it

(04:35):
almost it's not about me and getting back. It's about
me getting back and playing for that trying to do
what we can for the team. So that gives as
a huge driving factor for me and for everyone within
the club. So it's going to be a pretty special
this weekend.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
That's the kind of attitude I think that we'll get
you there though.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah, exactly, and to think that was part of that
team twelve years ago, sitting there afterwards, just.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Exactly exactly, so it would be a fairy tale. But
I think we're just super excited this weekend to celebrate, Yeah,
but particularly being.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
His last home game, home and away game.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Hopefully we do play another game at Optis, but it'll
be pretty special for our fans. We're going to have
a massive crowd. You know, if our fans aren't coming,
we encourage them to sell their tickets so we can
get as many as we can. Of course, we're hoping
to sort of break the record for our biggest non
derby crowd, so could be massive and it's going to
be a great night.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
He's a good chance we will. Now the sixty four
thousand dollars question, of course, Yeah, are you?

Speaker 4 (05:31):
What about you?

Speaker 1 (05:32):
I'm not sure yet. I've got to see the medicos today.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
But I trained yesterday and they just want to see
how I pulled up, so I felt pretty good. So yeah,
we'll have that conversation this morning, which is strange because
it does feel like I should know we're playing tomorrow. Yeah, yeah,
but it's just the nature of sort of a Friday
night game and ye training yesterday.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
So but yeah, all good signs, which is good.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah, they feel like all finals at the moment day
they in a lot of ways they do weeks away.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
They do well.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
It's just it's kind of as crazy if you look
at the top ads, there's a lot of things that
can still play out. So every game is so important
for us, but also for every team, no one's really
sort of secured.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
So yeah, it's going to be great for footy fans
this weekend.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Bulldogs who kick a lot of goals just sitting just
outside desperate to way back in.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah, the ladder predictors, everyone doing that. Yeah, yeah, which
is definitely not what I.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Hate.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
All Now this is this is your last chat with.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Very sad, very sad, but he's excited and.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
He could have waited till the end of the season.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Well I could have. I could have method in my madness,
you know.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
What exactly, But no, I did want to bring a
little gift on behalf of everyone at the Dockers, but
in particular May.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
It's a sign and jump from all the players coach.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Wow, sensational.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
But yeah, I just want to say massive thank you
for congratulations on forty years ago.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Cool, Just a piece of gratitude from the club for
all your efforts and the relationship with Hard So thank
you very much.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Congratulations, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Very I don't put that in the wash clear. No,
I'm wearing it tomorrow from my last day. Are you crying? No,
I'm saving it all. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I said to Kelly Black at the club, and this year,
I said, I've been working for the club for twenty
five years now, but what I don't want to see
is you me interviewing you at the club because that
means you'd be injured.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
So yeah, out of the back. Yeah, that's beautiful man,
No worries at all.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Thank good luck, whether you're there or watching from the sidelines.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Thanks man's pleasure game.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Yeah, thank you.
