We're two sleeps away from the twenty eighth Leadhall and
Zach Tribute game and talking free Adrian Barrach from seven
Years Hated Young from the Freemantle Dockers.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Good morning, Mary, lads, Hey, yummy, how you going? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
This thank you Smiley.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
This is a bit of a tricky interview actually, because
you're two days out from a game, and I know
it's like you've probably already moved on from Melbourne and
put that behind you, like not that it didn't exist,
but you know, OK, we're going to move on here
and get focused on Adelaide. So I'll just ask you
one question about that game. We interviewed you in an
immediate conference earlier this week and you were talking about
mental toughness and perhaps can play since the or being

(01:00):
too comfortable? Is that in your mind? Was that the
biggest factor in the game.

Speaker 5 (01:06):
Well, yeah, I think that potentially led to two factors
in our game that usually hold up really well in
terms of our team D and our contests. And yeah,
I feel like our preparation leading into the game was
like any other game we reviewed. We were prepared form
alboun We knew what to expect, we knew what we
had to bring in the contests and with our team D,
but we were just a little bit off in those

(01:27):
two areas. And when you're off in those areas against
any team, you're gonna get shown up. And yeah, that
was the case on the weekend, and yeah, I think
it was a subconscious mindset thing where we just, yeah,
probably got a bit comfortable after you know, winning a
couple of games, being on the road, and yeah, potentially
just hoping or expecting it might just happen for us,
and that's just never the case in AFL. You got

(01:47):
to bring your best game, particularly in the contest, and yeah,
we didn't quite do that. So yeah, it was a
really strong review this week, which was needed, and we
trained really firmly on the track yesterday, and yeah, I
think it was a good realignment for us, and hopefully
this week we can go out there and well not.
Hopefully we will go out there this week and value
the right.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Things and if Cosey pick it is coming to you
next year. It was a pretty good audition, wasn't it.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
He's a pretty good player.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
He's a hard man to stop when he's up and going,
and I think all the Melbourne fans would have enjoyed
him putting on as guys.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
You want to You just want to keep a lid
on him, don't.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
You, because if they do pop out, they're very hard
to put back in the box.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
We had one on our side, Shoe Bolton, who was
very similar in the sense that he's just so hard
to tackle. So many times you thought, oh he's going
to get tackled here and he just to get out.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
And I think Cosey is similar.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
When he was in the midfield and we will playing
on him, it was like once he got a bit
of space, it was pretty hard to.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Stop even for you. Yeah, and you've got some pace.
Hey will You mentioned training yesterday it was a bit feisty.
Is that that's a reflection of that the boys you know,
are stinging, are being being stung by the coach, or
they're feeling it themselves.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
The coach seemed to be pretty fired up as well.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
I think seeing John as that have had a bit
of a clash and then there was a coach stormed
out there at one stage. Tell us about it, what
was training like.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yeah, no, it was good.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
I thought the intensity was up and I think we're
a club it takes a lot of pride in our performance.
And there was areas in our game, like I said,
that weren't up to scratch, and we had a focus
in training on a few of those scenes on our
team day and our contests, so a few big bulls
were going at it, which.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
We love to say.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
And yeah, Jail was not happy with a couple of
team day things. But I suppose after training Jail said, like,
we could come out of training, we could do some
kick to kick, we could go through the motions, but
we'd rather challenge you.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
We'd rather you make mistakes.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
And then after training we sat there and we actually
reviewed a few clips from training.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
From training straight after it and thought, so it was good.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
We wanted to be challenged.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
There's no point just you know, looking at the Melbourne
game and then rolling out and just going through the motions.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
We wanted to.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Test our team Day challenge our contests and we did that,
and yeah, we had some good review clips post training
were okay, this is you know, what we still need
to work on, and it's good to see it in practice.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
So hopefully this week we can go out and implement it.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, that's pretty You mentioned the big bulls clashing. I
saw Alex Pearce and Sean Darcy had a collision, but
that was more clumsy than they Okay.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
Yeah they're both fine. Yeah, I'll both just going for
the ball and bumped into each other.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Got to say, barat Hayden. Congrats to Murphy Reid finally
the round six AFL Rising Star. I just love watching
him play and he's just so cool under pressure.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
He is two times. It's about time. I mean, you
could have given it to him any of the weeks.
He's been that impressive all year for us. And yeah,
like you said, he's just so composed for a six
game player, which is just so impressive.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
And yeah, I feel like you just have a lot.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Of confidence when he has the ball going inside fifty
that he's going to make a good decision, and the
forwards love leading to his to his kicks.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
So yeah, it's a great start to his career.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
And it's good that he got some recognition because he's
obviously been playing some good footy for a couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Absolutely, you're probably still in the gen Z category anyway.
But he's he's really gen Z, isn't he Like he's
got a lot of self belief and he's encouraged to
be himself. And I noticed he started with a thin
headband and then he went to the white, thicker headband.
Now he's got the purple the purple headband. He's really
made a statement, isn't he.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Yeah, he's just trying to find his way in the game,
I think. And it's all about the looks these days
for the young kids. Make sure you got the right
look going. But Nah, he's a confident kid, which we love.
He's when he moved to the club, he moved in
with Any Brayshaw and Andy Brayshaw's pretty fun character and
can give you a bit of slack. And I think
one thing we noticed pretty quickly about Murphy Readers he's

(05:36):
just as quick to give it back to him. So
we love that in any young player who's got some confidence.
But he's also a great kid, which is good.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
He could be a future captain alongside yourself. I reckon.
The weird bit is his manager is the same as
Harley Read's manager, so the two Reads are managed by
the same blake. So he knows Hardly Read really well,
being Victorian. And he's great mate is Nick Watson from Hawthorne,
the Wizard who who he's got their headband but he's
they wear wizard hats when he's playing, seeing that because

(06:05):
he save bounces off him as well picks his brains apparently.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
Yeah, I know he's got a few good mates. I
suppose when you come through those development academies you're all
pretty well connected with those sort of players.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
So yeah, there's some pretty good players in that group.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
It just take us inside your mind. So if you
pick up the paper today, there's a full page story
Danniel Laidley's written about a piece of play that she
noticed and it involved you, and she actually said it
was from the worst pieces of place he's ever seen,
which I thought was pretty big statement given I played
with dannyel and I know how we were back in
those days, especially in nineteen eighty eight eighty nine.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
But it started with you.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
You kicked the ball to Shaye Bolton and he tried
to play on kicked it out of bounds on the full.
It was only six minutes to go, so it was
crucial part of the game. They were a goal up
and then the ball got switched to McDonald, went down
the ground, hit ed Langdon McDonald round eighty meters. Apparently
Josh Tracy wasn't chasing as much as he could have.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Perhaps I don't know, went to length of the ground.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Ayways, Charlie Spargo out of Browns throwing gorn, takes out
the right handballs to Harvey Langford goal.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
End of game. Did you particularly think about that play?

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Did you see that plane go wow, we probably didn't
do well there and or there are a couple of
errors that led to that gold you reckon?

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
On the game that was frustrating because we felt like
we had a bit of momentum, So it was frustrating
when they went down the other rond and kicked the goal.
But yeah, that was one of the clips were reviewed
in our review. When we focus on our team day and.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
So the coach takes you through it and does does
he stop it and go what happened here?

Speaker 1 (07:41):
What happened here?

Speaker 4 (07:42):
Right, Yeah, that must.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Be terrible, is it?

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Yeah? No, it wasn't fun if you're involved.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah it's coming, don't you.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yeah, yeah no, But that's all part of me and
a high performing athlete. You just got to take responsibility
for your mistakes. And yeah, Melbourne was a team on
the weekend that went in to and too many times
on us, and that's something that we've prided ourselves on
in the pass is locking in our front half and
you know, forcing teams to go long down the line
or get it into contest. So that'll be a focus
this week because Adelaide or another team that do it

(08:08):
really well and can score heavily from their back half.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Looks like Jake is going to miss a month and
five Thy possibly as well. Jague with a hammy and
a foot Jago Amira. Last question. It's obviously a magnificent day,
you know, the Len Hall Tribute game. You're out there,
you've taken on the crow, so it's a huge game.
I'm going to be a massive crowd, six to ten,
bounced down the last post, the ode, the minute silence.

(08:31):
What's that like as a player when you're standing there
waiting for all that to happen and going through it
and you keep your emotions under control.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Yeah, it's interesting, it's I reckon, it's a pretty special experience.
I grew up in Melbourne. I was a Collingwood spporter,
so I used to love watching hands a day games
and you know, I used to be in my living
room standing up, listening to the national anthem and the
ode and I thought it was pretty amazing. So I
feel like anytime you get the opportunity to do that
as a player, I should really not take it for

(09:00):
granted and appreciate that moment. And then yeah, and then
I suppose. I mean, it's a big game, it's a
Friday night. I don't think I have any issues getting
up and about after that, and they give you enough
time to warm up, so it would be a pretty
special night for the players and our fans and hopefully
we can get the right result.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Yeah, we're well done, mate.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
It looks like you're hitting your straps and you're so
important to the team, so let's hope get over the
Crows and things that are back on track.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Good luck Friday, Hayden, Thank you very much.
