Jon was gutted to hear about Clairsy’s departure. Lisa quizzed him about what it was like opening for Jeremy Piven, but Jon confessed he’d never even seen Entourage. Fresh back from the UK, Jon bragged he’d managed to catch Oasis not once, but twice. He then put on his best Aussie radio voice to see if he had what it takes to step into Clairsy’s shoes.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The hunt is on for a new Clzy. Y.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm sorry, can we can can can anything? Just stay consistent?
I will someone think of the children. It's been all
my life, it's been like this. First my own mother
and father get divorced. I was but six years old,
clinging to something solid that will always be there, and

(00:29):
my father moves to Australia. I chase himpathetically over here,
and then I come here and I think, oh, Fred,
Botika and Lisa, sure this will last, this, this is safe,
this isn't ever going to change. Then that falls apart.
Thankfully we've got Clazy come along, good old Clazy. He
won't go anywhere. We can rely on him. No one

(00:52):
ever thinks of me in the studio.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Sorry, there are people cruelly labeling me some kind of
black widow.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, kill me.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
I saw you last Wednesday. You didn't see me.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I didn't see yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
John opened for Jeremy.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yes, Jeremy Piven, who I must say, I'm quite proud
to say I had no idea who he was when
I was approached about doing the gig. Apparently he's on
a very famous show. You I've never seen it? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I yet no you're going. And part of it is because,
all right, I'll have a goal for you, but it's
only for you. I always take extra special joy in

(01:40):
not not granting American stars with the credit that they
feel they deserve. So if it's an Australian or a
British person or from from anywhere else but America, I
like when I don't know who they are.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
I hear you make an exception for I'll give it.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I'll give it a goal. But because I've already opened
for him, you know what i mean. Support. Did you
get to meet Jeremy? I was hanging out at the
back all right.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, he just had a couple of chats with him, and.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, well I had Brian Shields. You've just seen Brian
Shields from the Green Reapers podcast. He also opened. He'd
message Jeremy direct because he's a huge fan of so
it was nice that he got to open for him.
I didn't I didn't know it.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
So you didn't know why people kept.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yelling just a gig to me. Just yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's just a gig to I don't know. I don't know.
These Americans get up.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
To the other thing that you'd just come back from
doing is going to see Oasis?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yes, now that's a proper start.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yes, was it everything?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
It was everything I dreamed it would be and more.
It was. I'll tell you what Oasis because I was
trying to figure it out while I was there. I
was trying to figure out what is it about this band?
Because these are very basic chord progressions. The songs are
hymn like, the like nursery, rhyme like almost the simplicity.

(03:07):
These are not like any but they're the first songs
you learn if you learn to play guitar, you learn
to play Oasis. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I'm trying to think.
I don't know what it is about the Beatles that
they're Yeah, maybe you could say the same about the
I think that they're a religion. I think that's what
was I think that's what the Beatles are as well.
I think it's like a it's a religious thing. It

(03:29):
was like a pilgrimage, just like a religion. There's all
strange little accessories, everybody's turning up in their special bucket hat.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
And especially for someone like you who is from where
they're from. Yeah, it's it would be very pilgrimage.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
It was very pilgrimage and wept.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah you really.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Yeah. The boys were mushy too, weren't they. Yeah yeah,
I mean I wasn't close enough to catch each individual tearful.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Videos or like, you know, because everyone goes they Gallagher brothers,
they're going to know by the end of the first week.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
To some extent, I mean, people are overreacting a little
bit in terms of, oh, they're never going to manage
to last. As all these geeseers are in the fifties. Now,
I've thought it's a total Yeah, if you're in if
you're in your fifty even if it was even if
it were legitimate, that was when they were in there,
what their.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Thirties, Yeah, yeah, exactly, still.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
With a bit of fire and arrogance. They're like getting
on a bit now. It's like walking too old to
be arguing. Some footage backstage of them walking out and
they were holding hands as they want. That's cool. If
you're wrong out with your brother for that long and
all that sort of stuff. It's it's got to be
it must be good, pretty special. It's got to be good,

(04:42):
especially to have a thing like Oasis back together again. Yeah,
to see those crowds.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Now, I don't know what my chances are considering your lifestyle,
all the comedy, with all the comedy, the comedy shows
that you do, working late night comedy shows, I don't
know if you would have any desire it or to
get up early in the morning.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
But can we just talk just in case, let's talk.
Let's talk. How's your how's your radio voice?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Or radio voice?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Because British and Australian news.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Readers, yes, yeah, hilarious. Yeah, well the English news readers.
You find English if you ever listen to British news,
you can't get sort of every word, like it's very
difficult to get the context of the news story because
they're so dull. They don't talk to you in a
fun way. Do you know what I mean? House of

(05:40):
Lords blur bla. Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson blah blah.
It's dull. Do you know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Performance?

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yeah? I think I think in Australia it's a it's
a it's a lot more fun than news. I mean,
I don't know if I could be a news but
I think I find that they use more fun words.
Motorcyclists didn't instigate an altercation. The bike's head of blue. Yeah.
I think that's and the cops are on their way.
Yeah yeah, yeah, the coppers arrived at seven point thirty. Yeah.
What about when they're giving the football scores in the UK. Yeah,

(06:10):
oh yeah, that's one of those one of those as
Mr things for sleep, isn't it Wednesday?

Speaker 1 (06:16):
You in our very news bulletins on this show the
other day, newsreader referred to Albanizey trying to get Benjamin
and Yahoo.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
On the blower on the blower. Elbow was trying to
get Benjamin on the blower. Yeah, on the blower, on
the blower. I'm trying to get him on the blower. Yeah,
he ain't answering.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
So yes, it's true. Okay, So your radio voice, what
is a bit of a combination of the two bass?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I think my radio voice would be. I think I
wouldn't be able to do it in this accent. Would
if I was doing radio, if I was signing up
for the closy position, you could good morning berth some
you rate your ass off in accent? Yeah, yeah, that's true.
Jound up radio clim Yeah yeah, but you're listening to
Butler FM with me jumping. You are right, our kid,

(07:07):
This is Oasis.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
That's probably only need.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
What about getting up early? John, you said to me recently, Well, see,
this is what I thought you were going to ask.
You know, what would I have to bring to the
table if I were to join a show such as this,
And I think the first thing that I would bring
to the table is changing the start time of the
show to approximately I don't know ten, We'll go till

(07:32):
mid afternoon. Maybe we'll play some gold knock it on
the head, you know what I mean, A lion.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Jeremy's right.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
We can still make our night life work, that's right.
And then as far as mornings go, we'll we'll never
hear none of that stuff. And it gets you out
of the competition with other radio stations, because what do
you call it?

Speaker 3 (07:52):
The late night break?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
The trouble with breakfast radio is that it's a bloody
breakfast time. I've always said, you go to be playing
Oasis the time between the two of you will be
playing paying What else would we have? We'd have o
M D MD of the bit of the bit of
Robbie swing stuff. Oh yes, get a load of yakasion.

(08:15):
I think we do well if we were choosing, If
we were choosing the song. I wouldn't have the encyclopedic knowledge.
Yeah yeah, sayd all right, John, we'll be in touch.
Thanks very much, all right, and congratulations on a banging careers.
If you didn't know. And everybody's questioning what he's up to,
he's actually learning to tattoo. I'm teaching him to tattoo.

(08:38):
He's going to be a tatoist. Yeah, that's what he's
up to. There's been a lot of call for it
down the shop. Okay, thanks guys. Thanks Mine
