Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hayden Young, welcome, thanks for having me, Thanks for joining us.
So you are a Docker for the AFL season. You
come Mendy at Mendy Mondy recommended.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yes, yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
I spoke to Dave. I said what are your thoughts
and he said, yep, I couldn't recommend it highly holy enough.
So I'm very happy to be here.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
Oh he's recommending us. Eddie recommended you to us.

Speaker 5 (00:21):
Yeah, absolutely, yeah, yeah, we were searching with you. It's
going to be to start. It's got to be a
staff from the back line. So you've got the gig. Mate.
Well that's very good, very good about things pre season mate,
how I thinks going for yourself? And how's the vibe
at the club?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, really good.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
It's been a long and hot pre season and yeah,
well and truly ready to get into the real stuff.
So looking forward to this weekend. The vibe around the
club is really good at the moment. Everyone's really excited.
We've got a very healthy list at the moment, which
is a good good thing to have going into the
start of the season, so there's a lot of competition

(00:56):
for spots and yeah, I think everyone's really excited, so
there's no.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Other thing than a hot preseason because of Australia, then
it's a winter sport, so you're playing the cold and
the rain. I often wonder is that transition, you know,
is there a lot to that transition or is it just.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Go you know, you just ease into it.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
It's actually a really good transition, to be honest. Training
in the heat is quite difficult, and when you're sometimes
in pre season, when you play in warm games, it's
actually quite hard and easily so if you get an
opportunity to play in it a game in Melbourne or
in other states who it's a bit cooler, we said,
it is a little bit of an advantage and okay

(01:36):
it's a little bit easier to run out of the game, so.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
All right, get the heart paying out first.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, so it's yeah, sort of an advantage in a way.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
And being playing in Perth, I mean, apart from last
season we got quite a bit of rain, but generally
it's it's like spring all the time in Perth, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yeah, it's beautiful over here. We usually usually get great
weather and we're very fortunate. And the thing that I
love about playing over here is I love to go
to the beach and on game day you can go
to the beach all year round. Then when we travel
to Melbourne, I try to go to the beach over
there in the middle of winter and it's it is.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
They call it.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Up and wanted to put their arms in. It's horrible.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
It's too cold for you guys, but it just looks like, yeah,
it's tough, it's really tough.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Now there's officially a new captain at the Doctors, Alex Pearce.
What's his leadership style like? Is it different to what
Nat Fife's was.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, it's a little bit different, different person, Yeah, very
different people, but yeah, Alex is a really really passionate
Frio supporter and a Faro man and he's really good
at engaging with his teammates and bringing the group together.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
That's everything you want in a captain, which.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Is why he got the vote from all these players.
He's very well respected and yeah, he's doing a great
job so far and it's going to be good to
see him develop and.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Grow throughout the year and.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
With the support of as with Fifey, I'm still on
the team, which would be great for Alex and the
leadership group surrounding.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Him and speaking of leadership group, you're in it now.
That's pretty pretty cool, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, Yeah, it's super exciting. Yeah, Leadership something that I've
always aspired to learn and develop in my game, and
I suppose with the departure of Dave and stepping down
it's opened up a few spots for people to come
in and develop.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
So I'm very fortunate to.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Be part of the youngest in the leadership group Caleb
as well. But we are actually quite a young young
team in terms of in our leadershiproup, in terms of
experience because we've got me, Sam Sulkowski who's joining the
leadership group, and Jaeger, who's obviously an experienced player.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
In terms of to our group is quite.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
New, So I like it. Fresh set of leadership eyes.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, there's a bit of freshness around the group. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Now Game one Sint Kilda in Melbourne on Sunday. They're
having some injury woes currently players not great for them,
maybe a bit more great for you.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, No, that's probably the ideal heading into the year.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
But the one thing we've learned from experience is it's
always hard to win on the road against any opposition.
It doesn't really matter who's out on the park. So yeah,
we're certainly still focusing on bringing our best footy and
yeah hopefully getting the result. And yeah, we don't expect
it to be easy by any means, and it still
take our best, So it.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Would be a foolish person who expects it to be easy.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
It must be sometimes had when you're hear when I
heard the memory wasn't playing, and it can be a
dangerous guy down forward, especially in the defensive courters. It
must be a cosure. You go, oh okay, well that
makes it a little bit easier.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Oh yeah, certainly as a defender, if you know you've.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
You've got to match up and yeah they miss, there's
a sense of relief. But then AFL lists I've got
so much death these days that whoever comes in is
going to be a very good player, So you can't
can't think too far ahead. But yeah, certainly as a defender,
I know some the keys would be a bit relieved.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Michael Walters maybe the only one with a significant injury.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah, he's not far off. He'll train tomorrow, yeah, to
see how he progresses. But he's been going really well
with his injury and hopefully he's not too.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Far away, okay?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
And will we see the debut of Luke Jackson and
is it Jaeger or Jager Jacob o' mirror.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
I think one, yeah, I think we will.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Teams haven't been announced yet, but from all reports I
think they'll play. And they've had really strong summers. They've
been great additions to the to the list and they're
going to bring their strengths and hopefully help us win
some games of footy.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
What about the Cutler's man in footy? Seawan Darcy and
Luke Jackson? Are they inseparable those two at the moment?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
They are?

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Actually yeah, they're really funny. They're both sort of interesting
characters and they have their own sort of sense of
humor that no one else really understands.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
It's sort of a rockman thing.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Oh yeah, big, but yeah, they're spending a lot of
time together and the chemist sure on the field I
think to prove that.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
So they looking really good.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
What a one two punch in the Rackers?

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Very good And expectations are pretty high for Fremantle this season.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
How do you deal with the pressure.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, it's something that we've spoken about at the club
about the expectations and we've basically set ourselves sort of
expectations each week of what we want to achieve and
sort of what we want to get out of the game,
and if we're able to tick those things off each week,
hopefully those expectations that have been set on us externally

(06:32):
largely their outcome based.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, probably towards the end of the year. But if
we can take these things.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Off weekly, we feel like we're being in a good
position to hopefully keep getting wins, and before we know it,
we're in a position where we're playing finals, foot and whatever.
So yeah, we're not looking too far ahead, but certainly
to deal with those external pressures, we're just focusing on
a few simple things each week individually and as a
team that will help us get the result and hopefully

(07:01):
we'll take care of the outcomes.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
Yeah, we know where critics or journos are trying to
write columns at this time of year, they want to
talk about footag and Michael Barlow, for my favorite son
of the club, has come out and said, oh, I
don't think the boys are going to make finals. He goes, yeah,
I think that's a bit of a weird thing for
him to say. How do you feel about someone saying
something so negative.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Oh, it doesn't really bother me too much.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Everyone has an opinion, and at this time of the year,
the opinions can vary.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Of course.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
I suppose as the year goes on, hopefully we can
change a few opinions and everyone's on board and everyone
thinks we can achieve a lot of things. So yeah,
it doesn't bother us too much. They haven't played yet.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
And hardly anyway, even the experts can't pick at the
start of season.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, exactly, everyone's going to play finals this right.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
We are thrilled that you've joined us for the season.
So tell us a little bit about yourself growing up.
Are you barracked for You were saying barracks for Collingwood?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah, funny, everyone's a Collingwood supporter.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
So it was actually quite interesting last year when we
played him in that semi final. I have my whole
family there, half of them we're in for half are
in Collingwood. At the end of the game, everyone was
a little bit flat for me, but I was also
looking forward to watching the Pies the following week, So yeah,
it's just an interesting dynamic.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
What do you love listening to you got favorite music.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yeah, I've got an interesting mix. I probably don't have
one genre that I like the most. I like a
bit of old school stuff, but then I also like
some new staff, some rap. It sort of just depends
on what mood I'm in and feeling at the time.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Same.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Outside of football, hobbies, other sports and things.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I've been getting into my golf actually of late.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
It's probably something that I didn't play a lot, but
since I've arrived in Perth there's a lot of golfers
at the club and I'm finding it's a great way to,
you know, get my head out of footy for a
couple of hours, get off my phone and go out
on the golf course and it's good fun playing with
your mates and having a bit of bantern.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah. So I've been doing that a little bit lately
and it's it's been enjoyable.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
Hey, it would you rather here for you? Would you
rather kick for goal to win the Grand Final on
your non preferred right foot? Or would you rather a
cage fight to the death with Luke Ryan.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
I'm going to go with the first up.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
Just yeah. He's a tough little bager, isn't he. Medalists
for twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
He is, and I'm so grateful that I'm on his
team and in the back line with him.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I know if anyone anyone comes at me or one
of the other defenders, he'll be the first to step in.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
And help us out.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
He even does it with the ruckman.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Oh yeah, he's like that with everyone. Yeah, he's a
great teammate. Well.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
The Frio Docors placed in Kilda at Marvel Stadium in
Melbourne on Sunday, bounced down as one forty R time.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Good luck and we'll see you next week next week.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Thanks and young part of the team, officially now at
ninety six FM.
