Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ninety six. Their themes Fremantle Dogger Hayden Young for first
Window and Door Replacement Company, give your home a new
lease on life with Perth Window and Door Replacement Company,
then number one name in the game to book your
free quote Surge Perth Window and Door. We had the
stats team's busy on the weekend, thirty disposals and thirteen marks,
but not enough to get the boys the Dockers over
(00:21):
the line against the Saints. You'd rather the poor four point,
wouldn't you, Hayden? How are you mate?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I'm good.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, certainly be feeling a lot better with four points,
but it's just the way it is.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Next week, Well, the dock has won the hitouts, but
they just didn't win the clearances.
Speaker 5 (00:37):
How much does that have to do with things?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, well we lost clearances and we probably chipped the
ball around a bit much, which didn't allow us get
a lot of field position, and it's probably hurt us
in the end, but we still had a lot of
inside fifties and created a lot of opportunities.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
And yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
A bit of a weird feeling after the game because
we felt like we probably underperformed and we weren't really
happy with our work in the little circle and the contest,
but we certainly created a lot of opportunities to score
and probably just didn't finish off in the end. So yeah,
there's a few things we weren't happy with, but still
a lot of positives to take out of it. We
can take a little bit of confidence going forward.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
It's pretty damaging one, yeahs round one. Yeah, Like I said,
a lot of people commenting feeling like the doomsday profits
and we were just talking.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
We were just you're not allowed to say anything until
round three.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Sounds like a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Of nonsense that people go off with after round one,
writing off teams and say it's just silly.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah, I think everything's just amplified in the first round.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
Yeah, they've all been waiting to have a say on
something and then.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, are you guys ignored a bit when you're the
right times?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah, we certainly had to block out a few things
this week just because everyone's been pretty vocal.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
But inside the.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Four walls where we're pretty confident that we can go
out and perform this weekend. It's one game that we
weren't very happy with, but we put in a lot
of work and we're confident.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, and it's damaging. It's such a low scoring game.
One team discored the last five goals. That was the
telling factor at the end.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Was it. Yeah, well that's it.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, we certainly Well we had forty inside fifties in
the second half and we scored two goals, whereas they
had far less and scored five goals. So that was
probably the difference in the game. They were able to capitalize.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
And we weren't.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
And we had a good, good hard look at that
yesterday in our review of what went wrong, And to
be honest, we did a lot of the hard stuff right,
Like we got the ball to our forward line. We
just didn't finish off our connection and yeah, we just
got to work on that a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
But it's an easy fix hopefully.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Well, some of the commentators who couldn't wait to say
something about something criticize Fremantle for leaving five in attack,
especially when they were getting beaten at.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
The stoppage late. What are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, Well, five he's been training as a forward all preseason.
He's done a lot of work in that area, and
that's sort of that's probably going to be a position
going forward, and we had a lot of confidence in
our mids to get the job done.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
They just probably didn't get it done on the day.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
But five of his position this year is going to
be largely forward, and we saw against Port Adelaide how
damaging he was in the forward line. And when our
midfield's up and up and running, it's really damaging to
have someone like five fe in the forward line. So
the coaches wanted to back in that plan, and on
the weekend they probably didn't get it right. But I
think going forward, we'll keep backing in our plan and
(03:24):
our structure and hopefully it works.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I mentioned how you were racking up the numbers mate
there thirty disposals and Saturday mix. Do you realize feeling
and early in the game beging jeez, I'm getting it
a bit here, or you're just so focused on the plan.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
I'll probably focus on the plan, particularly early in the game.
But we sort of noticed they were flooding a lot
of numbers back in their defense.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Son, Yeah, so there was a lot of.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
A lot of room for us backs to work in,
and early on we probably didn't capitalize that enough, and
we probably didn't take field position and keep energy in
the ball and that's something that we reviewed and we
want to get the ball moving and give our forward chance.
So yeah, we had a lot of the ball, but
it was probably largely because they were rolling numbers back
and we need to look to attack a little bit more,
which we reviewed yesterday.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
It's not a horrible thing to be named best on ground,
which is where we saw you in the West on
Monday name best on ground for FREEO.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, it's always nice a little bit of recognition. But yeah,
it would have been nice to walk away with four points.
So that's what we'll be trying to do this week.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, do you reckon all of the talk about Luke
Jackson coming over? And yeah, he'said a lot of hype
and a lot of talk. It takes a while for
a player to settle in it in your club. Despite
the fact that you can tell he loves Big Darce
and he gets on with you guys, it's not You
can have high expectations from round one, can't you? Oh?
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Definitely.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Even this is my fourth year at the club and
I was still very nervous going into round one.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I can't imagine how Luke was feeling.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Sort of new club a lot of expectation on his shoulders,
but I think he had himself really well.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
He played his role.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
He probably just didn't execute a few things which he
usually would, but he's aware of that and he'll keep
working and I think it we'll just keep working our
cohesion within the forward line group and sort of our
leading patterns and our delivery to our forwards probably didn't
help Luke and those other forwards, so that's.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Something that we'll keep working on getting our cohesion right.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
But yeah, he was really excited to play his first
game for the club and it was really excited to
see him out there, and I think he's going to
be a really good player for us.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Just quickly before we go to the break, tabin I
was subbed out. Is he okay?
Speaker 4 (05:20):
I think he's okay, Okay, Yeah, all right, Free Metal
sits fourteenth on the ladder.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
That you can take a lot from the ladder on
after round one.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
But now you play North Melbourne at Optus on Saturday,
Mountsdowns four point thirty first home game of the season.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
Are you are you concerned at all about.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
The ground after you think it's come good after Red
Sharon and there won't be any aid injuries that we're
pretty confident the.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Ground would be good. We get a look on Friday.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
We train there for our Captain's run, so we'll get
a little run around and familiarize ourselves with the ground
so that we're pretty confident we'll be in good condition.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Hayden Jeremy Howe did you see the footage make because
I haven't seen because they refused to play it with
his broken It was pretty hideous.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I didn't say it. I saw a photo of him like.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Superman and I was like, oh, I can't imagine that
ending well, and I was I didn't really want to
see that no ending, but it didn't look great.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, nice to see all his teammates come to him
when he's lying there, and then a couple of the
Gelong boys came to him as well. I mean, you
guys are all together to a diege degree even though.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, and no one wants to see an injury like that,
such a good player, so hopefully.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Just the thought of it gives me there he's like
falling off the roof. Oh yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
Watched the team likely to look at changing from last week.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
We had a look yesterday.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
As I spoke about before We did a lot right
in terms of getting the ball forward and giving our
forwards a chance. We probably just lacked that execution piece
and there was a lot that was due to the
forwards potentially not working together as well as we would
have liked, but also on us mids and half backs
giving the bottle of them to the advantage and yeah,
(07:01):
giving them a chance. Really we knew sank Hildo were
rolling around and North Melbourne will do a similar thing
and try to support their defenders. So we've got to
be better at lowering our eyes and giving our forwards
a chance kicking to advantage, and then the forwards this
week we'll get to work on making sure they get
out of each other's way and give each other a
chance to fly at the ball. So that's one of
(07:22):
the main things. But also our team day was a
bit scrappy early. It took us a while to get going.
In the second half we felt like we sorted it
out and we were able to win the ball back
in our front half and.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Get some good looks from that.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
But early on we were a bit disorganized and that's
something that we'll focus go into the game.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
What about Sny Walters a chance for Michael to come back.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
I think so he played pretty well down at Appeal
last week and he'll train this week and give himself
every chance to be available.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
We had with the Eagles game, we had a chance
to see North Melbourne in action and Nick Larky kick
six goals and Harry Sheezel whose name I love because
I cheess had the best date of you in almost
forty years. So I imagine you watch those things pretty closely.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Yeah, I had a quick look at that game considering
we're playing North this week and then West Coast the
following week, so it was an interesting game. But yeah,
She's looked pretty sharp off the half back line, which
I love as a half backer. But we'll hopefully try
and nullify that this weekend. And yeah, and Lakie was
pretty dangerous up forward, so things to be aware of.
But yeah, we're backing our foot is good enough to
(08:29):
beat anyone on the day, so we'll focus on our
brand and keep in mind a few things that they
might throw at us.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
No pressure make can you play both of those guys
gathered on the weekend getting around of it?
Speaker 2 (08:40):
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Hey, non footy question, but it is important. Bid Twitter,
Sam Skwitkowski get the music right pre game. Apparently he
was responsible.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
He did, he did, He had a lot of that
had a lot of help from the boys. We sent
in a few requests, right, So yeah, he did really well.
But maybe he might have to lift his game this
week because we didn't start to flash. So yeah, I'll
give him bit of feedback. But there's a few more bangers,
a few more bangers.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
But he was good, he was organized and everyone had
an input, so it was good.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Also, not quite a football question.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
There was a social media post about what time you
all rock up to the airport and you were second last?
But who is the least the last person you want
to sit next to on the plane?
Speaker 2 (09:17):
The last person I want to sit next to on
the plane.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Probably Sean Darcy, Right, Yeah, he's he's always he can't
sit still, really, he's always getting moving around. He's always
one of those and he's a bit of like a
hugger like he likes to he's act there. If he
walks past you in the eye, he will sort of
wrap his arm around and he's just he's a big man.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
It's a lot.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
He's like a giant. Steve Smith keeps still keep still.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
He's good value because.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Everyone when we started set question was always hading Valentine.
Don't exceed to sit next to Ballance. People imagine that
Yeah in the past. Well, good luck on the weekend, mate,
We'll talk to you next week, see you next week.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
So yeah,
