Speaker 1 (00:27):
Thank you very much for having me. Actually, yes, in
the studio. We speak so regularly and have.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Done four years.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah, and yet yes, never in person, always down the line.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
So it is very nice to be here.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Goodness to be able to see you in the eye,
to be in the studio, to multi dimensional that's right, Yeah,
that's exactly. Is there any differences so far? Thank you
fifty again? So yeah that's stopped.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, I'm just going to do an OnCore.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
I've done an Encore fifty this year, so I just
might stick the flag in fifty.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Be worried with the candles that.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, but it was my birthday down that. I'm not
a big birthday person. I've got to be honest with you.
I share my birthday with justin Timberlake. He's the guy
who brought Sexy back. I was the guy who left
sexy out there in the first place.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
That was me.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I dropped it at I just put it down and
I just wandered away and I was like, where is sexy?
Justin found it though, So that was good. So yeah,
it's but I'm not a big celebrator too.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Actually he did your loss was just.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I was not, and those allegations had not stuck. I
am wearing that exact same Janet Janet Jackson outfit on
stage at.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
And that's what he was talking about. Willis. That's a
great name. What's you're talking about? Willis? Will I think
I think you've used that one before.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I have because this is my improvised stand up show.
So I've been doing the show in Sydney for twelve years,
I think so since I first did it started the
Sydney comedy story, and it just used to be occasional
one off show to test material, that sort of thing.
But it ended up growing into its own thing, and
then it became I did it more and more. I
(02:10):
even did it at the end more in Sydney in
front of like you know, sixteen hundred people. But I've
never done a full tour of it. So what it
is is a completely made up show every single night.
So every single night i'm here in perfect it is
a really different show. It is made up with the
people in the room. There are no cameras in the room.
It is only for the people who are there that night.
It is never repeated again. It is just made up
(02:30):
of the ingredients of there. Because we live in this
world now where everything is for broadcast for somebody else.
You cannot go to the movies and just enjoy the movies.
We're having to tell people what your opinion was about
the movie, or live stream from the movie, or take
a photo to prove you of there in the first place.
But this is the opposite of that. This is a
group of people gathered in a room for like one hour.
(02:51):
Well it's actually seventy minutes, because I guarantee you one
hour of quality material, so I have seventy minutes to
get there.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
I give myself some week, well not always. I finished
it at sixty three last night.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
I felt like I got a very solid But that
extra tends there just just as the same in case
I need it, and it genuinely is what it says
on the ticket. Like I talked to the people in
the audience, we just get to know each other, We
make stuff up and we have a good time.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
That's wonderful.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Now, you did some fill in radio Breakfast Radio in
Melbourne list last year and you worked with Daisy as
in Daisy Thomas Thomas, Daisy and Rosie.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Did you think of calling yourself Wilsie for those few months?
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Well, Wilsie.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
I got Willow a lot as well because of the
plant connection. You know, people thought if there was a
Daisy and a Rosy that maybe they needed like a
willow or something. I was someone who suggested pussy will over.
I thought, this is a whole new direction. This feels
more like a rue Paul's drag race.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
We didn't know we needed.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
I always thought if.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I was going to be a drag like person that
my name would be Kerry Man Kennerley. Oh yeah, I
addressed Kerry Anne style. Erry.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Do you think that I like Petty Bell?
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Oh yeah, okay, that's a great name.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Yes, yes, right, I love it.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
But you are the key.
Speaker 7 (04:18):
I mean we talked about, you know the names of
your shows famous for them being a take on your name.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
There have been some absolute rippers. I was trying.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
I was looking back through them and trying to decide
what's been my favorite.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
And I don't think what you're like. Well, see, I
love I am the Willris.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yes, so that was the first one, and I believe
you can still contact me. Although when I say contact me,
I am not seeing these emails because I have not
gone to this.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Email a voice for a long time.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
But the wills at Yahoo dot com, which was my
first ever email address when I first got email and
I was doing my show I am the Willris and
I registered the will the Willers at yahoo dot com
and the Willers yeah who dot com. Still like it
was still important in my life until about twenty four
months ago when I finally used the last thing that
(05:04):
still had that as a password.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Sometimes you've just.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Got the email address attached to something and you can't
get rid of the email address because you're never going
to get the notifications about that thing.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I'm finally clear of it. I have no objecks.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
But if you want to see me an email, but
I'll never Yeah, but I'm a Rowrist.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
The favorite is will by Mouth because that Gary.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
On film one of the seen I liked a jagged,
jagged Little Will. There's a few that I haven't used
yet there like are up my sleeve, and probably a
few that I won't ever get to because I've got
a list of the Oh, so there's a They are
(05:45):
collected from a range of places. So here's basically how
it works. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival that used to be,
but now it's like there's Perth Fringe, and there's Adelaide Fringe,
and there's Camera Comedy Festival, and there's Brisbane Comedy Festival
in the Sydney Comedy Festival. There's a whole circuit now.
So normally you're doing your tour while you're being contacted
by your management going do you want to do a
tour next year? And if so, you know what's it
(06:07):
going to be called? Now? Yeah, for people who name
their shows like in August, they say, what's ten things I.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Never knew about my dad?
Speaker 1 (06:14):
And then they get to first night and they're like,
I think it turns out there's these three things I
didn't know.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
You're gonna have to hear about my day a lot.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
And so early on I was like, well, if I'm
going to do a show every year, and I haven't
thought of what the show is yet. A good way
is just put my name in the title of the show.
Come up with a new title so people know it's
a new show, and then I can actually worry about
what's in the show later. So I started making a
little list of these names. Sam Mack, Gold LOGI Nomendade,
Whether Man Sam sam Mack one day was working on
(06:47):
a radio show that I used to do. He was
our panel operator on that radio show that I was
doing with Limo, and he was really bad at being
a panel of It was so bad.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
If you wanted to hear what if you wanted to
hear what the traffic was three days ago, then Sam
was your man.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
But he was a brilliant comedy writer and he was
so he always wanted a task he wanted to learn about,
Like he's one of those guys who are so ambitious
and I wanted to learn. He didn't want to feel
in the time. It's like what can I do today?
And so one day he was in that what can
I do today? And I was like, well, you know what,
if you want to as a writing exercise, why don't
you go and see how many will show titles you
can come up with, you know, just to see like
(07:29):
your creativity. And he did, and I put him in
a file, and every August time I sam Max file
and I have a look to see if there's another
one there.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
As you do.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Everyone thinks they're funning it some stage. Have you got
some ones of a just shit? You must have received some.
Speaker 7 (07:45):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Sometimes people will suggest them to me in interviews or
live on air. And I say to people over the
years that I can't act. But if you hear my
reactions to how hilarious I think their terrible ideas are,
you think actually he can act.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
A little, it turns out get him a low.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
It's very gracious.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
There is someone who has a show call question everything.
How do you feel about the current station of American politics?
Speaker 1 (08:12):
What's going on? What's going on in American politics? Because
here's the thing you've got to know about me is
that I had a really busy year last year, so
I had a tape.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
You don't tell me which guy yet.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Because okay, I'm at the moment I still think Biden's
a chance. So I'm just going to binge the rest
on my holidays. So please don't spoil what's happened.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Okay, we won't give it away. It would be the
eld Of, but spoiler, wouldn't it.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
I've got a good feeling about, good feeling about Joe's.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Got this one in the.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
That is actually funny.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
But I'm going to watch it in four years.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
And here in the West, not only do we hear
all about the American election, but you're in a federal
election coming up, and there's a state election in much
as well.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
So this is the book for it. So are you
already in the state election?
Speaker 7 (09:01):
Then?
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (09:01):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Now?
Speaker 2 (09:03):
The campaign has a locked in date estate but it's
officially launched today apparently, so Roger will be smiling somewhere.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Can I can I ask you about the locked in
date because I'm fascinated by this. Is because do you
think federally we should have locked in date as well?
Do you think it works well?
Speaker 5 (09:18):
So we might as well?
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, because this whole.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Thing where they just get them, you know what, let's
do that? That is actually something I can absolutely get behind.
That we have all our elections on the same day.
And when I say all our electionsence, I mean what
else you got? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Something in your.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Local area, whatever Australian idol. Let's line them all up
so we have to vote. That'll actually get people more enthusiastic.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
About the day.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I think, you know what, I'm going to Albo and
Guy Sebastian. That's my ticket this year.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
That's not about it.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
That's a genius idea and we should put.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
It to them question as a running mate.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
Yeah, in the meantime, you can cat what's you're talking
about will in a very special bespoke show for your
eyes only.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Yes, there's only honestly about ten tickets left for the
entire series. It's next Wednesday and Thursday. If you get
in today so you might get.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
To well fringeworld dot com today you I'll be getting
in too sweet for that. If you want to go,
Thank you, Thank good to
