Tonight on Parental Guidance, Season 3 continues with one of the most important—and challenging—parenting topics: peer pressure and consent. Justin and Kylie preview Episode 2, teasing the big questions you’ll want to discuss with your kids after watching. From raising upstanders to helping kids say “no” when it matters most, this episode is packed with practical ways to strengthen your family’s values in the face of social pressure.

KEY POINTS:

  • Season 3 of Parental Guidance airs tonight at 7:30 on Channel 9 and 9Now, with Episode 2 focusing on peer pressure and consent.
  • Peer pressure often drives kids into non-consensual or harmful behaviour—helping them stand firm is critical.
  • Questions parents should reflect on and discuss with their kids:
    • How comfortable are your children in new social situations?
    • Have you had clear, age-appropriate conversations about consent?
    • Will your child be an upstander when others are excluded or bullied?
    • Can your child say “no” even when everyone else is saying “yes”?
  • Watching Parental Guidance offers real-time insights from other families and adds powerful tools to your parenting toolkit.

QUOTE OF THE EPISODE:
"How strong are your kids? Are they willing to say no when everyone else is saying yes?"

Speaker 1 (00:05):
I'm not gonna lie. This is probably my favorite time
of the year. Parental Guidance is on the TV season three.
It's back on nine and nine now tonight, Goday. Welcome
to the Happy Families podcasts Real Parenting Solutions. Every day
on Australia's most downloaded parenting podcast, we are Justin and
Kylie Colson.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Last week's episode, Big TV this was huge.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
How like bu the house? You suck at this game?
Basic targo.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I'm just learning go drink dish washing liquid and dye
taco Jesus dealing with screens and the challenges that parents
are being faced with and our kids.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, I'm still blown away by the aibots.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, okay, spell it for the best. I don't need
you being my best friend anyway.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
See, I think you're yes, still doing my head in
and just the I was thinking about it the other
day about tech companies, and I just thought, at no
point have any of the tech companies ever actually done
anything to earn our trust, and yet we trust them
so much. I don't want to talk about last week.
Though we talked about last week or last week. We've
got to talk briefly about tonight. If you missed it.

(01:14):
You can catch up before seven thirty tonight. You can
catch up on nine now on the app and watch
episode one of season three of Parental Guidance, starring Yours
Truly as well as Ali Langdon. And we've got four
focused parents who are doing such a great job. Tonight, Kylie,
the conversation moves from where we've been on screens and

(01:35):
now we're shifting into real life, real life challenge. Yeah,
peer pressure, peer pressure, and we're including consent in the
peer pressure conversation because quite often non consensual behavior occurs
because of pressure. Somebody's pressuring someone to do something, or
somebody feels pressure to do something, or a whole bunch
of friends and peers are saying you, guys should do something,

(01:58):
and there's so much pressure around the consent conversation. Special
guests on the show tonight. I'm not going to say
who it is, but my goodness, it's a conversation that
you really have to be.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Therefore, well, can we tease anything about tonight's show.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
I don't want to get in trouble with nine, so
I'm going to have to be very careful with what
I say. Big recaps every day this week after tonight.
Let me ask you the questions that we will tackle
tonight to give you kind of a heads up and
a way into discussions with your kids. Can your children
talk to somebody new like how comfortable are they in

(02:43):
novel social situations? That's going to be a major focus
tonight and it plays a really important part in our
children's social development. Okay, second question, have you talked about
consent with your kids? Now? We mentioned this on the
podcast the other day. You and I have recently had

(03:03):
a big conversation with our children about I guess, consent
and a range of other topics related to pressure from boys,
because we've got girls pressure from boys around dating and relationships.
Here's my next question. What would your child do if
they were with somebody who started to bully, exclude, or

(03:25):
ostracize somebody else? Can you be confident that your child
is going to be an upstander not a bystander? And
maybe the last one that I can tease, how willing
is your child to say no when everyone else is
saying yes? In other words, are your children rule breakers

(03:48):
or are they the kind of kids who will say
in spite of all the pressure, In spite of the
fact that everybody's saying we should do this thing. It's
actually not okay to do it. We've been told not
to do it. We shouldn't do it. How strong are
your kids?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
One of the things that I absolutely love about the
way Parental Guidance plays out is I get to see
in real time how other parents navigate these challenging conversations.
And there's plenty I wouldn't do, But every now and
again there's just this gem and I go, oh, that
was brilliant. Yeah, I love how they did that, And
the opportunity I then have to add that to my

(04:23):
toolkit is powerful.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
More opportunities for more additions to the toolkit tonight on
Parental Guidance. It's seven point thirty on nine, or you
can stream it live on the nine Now app. Parental
Guidance Season three, Episode two. Here pressure see it tonight
on the Telly.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Did you forget something?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
I forgot to do the wrap up? Didn't I?

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:47):
