Speaker 1 (00:10):
I heard podcasts here more mixed one or two point
three podcasts, playlists and listen live on the free iHeart app.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Heley And that says Suburban superstarstar man I mixed.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
One A two point three. We've kicked this off yesterday.
Suburban Superstars the icons around Adelaide, around South Australia that
you would see in your local area and then you
would say to your neighbor, Hey, did you see so
and so. They'd be like, yeah, no, no, no guy,
I see him all the time. We have a guy
at the Brickworks Markets where I go shopping every single
Sunday and he is always on the over across the
(00:48):
road every Sunday playing the bagpipes. He's the guy. He's
the guy.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Is Bruker in Rundell, Maore. Everyone knows the horroscarfs Brewoker.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Everyone knows the Horroscarf's Brooker. These are the people we
want to hear from you Adelaide thirteen one O two three.
Who are the suburban Superstars? And there's one name so
far We're a day into this that keeps coming.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Out yet top of the list. Everybody knows. If I
say to you, who's Johnny Johnny, who are you going
to say? We know Johnny, Johnny. Johnny's the guy john
Johnny and run themore with the gun boots, the little
backpack speedos.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
That's Johnny. The two to Johnny Hayesman is his name,
and he's on the phone with us right now. Good morning, Johnny, Ma.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Johnny.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
This is such a privilege for us because you're a legend.
You're someone that we have seen for decades dancing around
in Adelaide. Can you tell us why? Why have you
done this?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Well, we've all probably started back in the nineties. And
by the way, I still have all those items that
you just said before, the gun boots, the speedos, teenage
way back in the nineties. Really, I used to go
to the cricket, the Test match in the cricket and
(02:05):
my mum was watching it and Richie Bo meant, you know,
there's local celebrity Johnny Hayesman walking around. So yeah, mums
she was. She had goose bumps.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
I think because Johnny he's the do of commentary.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
That's right. Yeah, But everyone wanted to know who I was,
and people started, you know, contacting me, asking me to
do all sorts of things. You know, so adverts and
you know, Toyota commercials and things like that.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
I love it, Johnny.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
His own really, so what.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
What we love about you? What I love about you
is that you don't seem to care what anyone thinks.
You just get out there, you dance, you do your thing,
which is so inspiring. Was there ever a point where
you're like, oh, maybe I should just I don't know,
back off a bit, cover up or whatever, like or
did you you just don't care?
Speaker 1 (03:06):
I love it?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, No, I just really just because I like fashion
a lot. So and like like you said, you know,
I used to sit in the moll and watch the
Spooker and the just people walking past or and I
love you just used to have that vibe, which it
always has and it still has today. And although Adelaide's
(03:29):
Jenny a lot bigger, I mean they did a lot
of building during COVID. I was in the city and stuff,
staying at five star hotels and are like fourten dolls
a night. Yeah, they did a lot of building. I
mean I think, yeah, at the skyline of Adelaide. It's
not it's not like a baby city anymore. It's no, No, we're.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
A proper city. But we still got We've still got
people like you hanging on that and keeping us grounded.
I wanted to know this this big impact that you've
had on people, and we have had so many people
call in go Johnny. Johnny's the first person to think
of when I think of superstars. What are those What
have those interactions been like for you over the years
with people coming out.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
It's just meeting of the people. You go in the
city and you do a few laps of the mole
and you just you meet hundreds of people. And I
had a fairly of century style, so I did really
stand out always. I mean, Adelaide's got a bit of
a golf, you know, punk type of the churchy type
(04:35):
and new style really like a lot of the other cities.
And yeah, you used to see a lot of characters
around and I really tried to out to a lot
of them.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Did I want to know, Johnny? You said, you've still
got all the things like the gum boots and the
backpack and things like that. How much would I have
to pay you to have those gun boots because I
would love to wear them. I think we probably have
the same size.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
In the half size.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
She's got a big pigeons over there.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
You have a couple of pairs, so you can probably
have old Johnny can't bring them into the station sometime
or whatever.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
That would be my dream come true, wearing Johnny's gun boots.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Big.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Backpack. Somehow. I've just always kept that as well, and
I know a lot of people come in about it,
but I've always just kept it and just hang it
up at home. And I don't know why of a hoarder.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
I think you can always option that off for charity.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Part of the character Johnny, the backpack, the boots, the
speed over, the man Keny. We love all of it.
Adelaide loves Johnny hasman and he's dancing through Rundle Mall,
through Adelaide over anywhere in between. If you see this man,
go up and give him a pat on the back. Johnny,
thank you for joining us this morning. You're an.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Thanks for being you. Johnny said my name.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
It was our name knows suburban superstar Johnny.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
It doesn't get a whole lot better, but I want
to hear yours. Adelaide thirteen one O two three
