Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, the magnificent Casey Donovan joins an all star cast
for this Saturday Night's Ceilink Carol's by Candlelight at Elder Park.
We're talking Becky Cole, Paul Kelly, Paul Linie, Adelaide's very
own gospel collective, and a whole stake more. We speak
to Casey right now though.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Morning to you, Casey, Good morning, how are you? I'm good?
Thank you?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Now, case I have to say I've been a fan
of yours and your voice since idle days, but I
think if there's any doubt before about your voice, you
won everyone over with your work on nine to five
last year in Adelaide.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
What sort of the gig was that? It was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
It was so much fun and Adelaide audiences were absolutely
amazing and nine to five to show itself, was such
a joy to be in and perform night after night.
And I can't wait to yeah, get down on Saturday
and sing some Carol.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
And you can act too, like who knew?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Look I didn't, certainly you know I've now almost been
in this job now for twenty years, so you know,
why not put some acting chops under the mat?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Absolutely? Absolutely now you spent a bit of time here
in Adelaide. Was there a favorite haunt for you? You
like a restaurant or a pub or a park. I
don't know. Is there somewhere you spend a bit of time? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Look, you know I always spent it down near the
actual theater, but you know, anywhere around that precins you know,
the main mall. I'm trying to think of what a
Rundall mallund ma. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was always
something fun happening in the mall. But you know, I
did a lot of a lot of in between show
shopping in Rundle Mall.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
So look, i'd have to say them all the credit
card got a bit of a hammering, didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Oh look, I just I window shop and I think
about it, and then I sometimes just impulsively just treat myself.
You know, a kid's a season to be married.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Well, this is this is true? All right, let's talk
about the coras this Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
I'm sure sometimes when you get asked to do gigs
you have to think about it, but I'm sure there
was no thought when it came to this one.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Look, I mean, Carols is such a beautiful time of year.
Everyone comes together, you know, we get to catch up
with family, and some people don't get that, you know,
that joy of catching up with people because people are
traveling or not home. So it is a really special
time to come together sing music and you it does
bring people together. And there's nothing like looking out into
a sea of people smiling and singing along to some

(02:05):
of their favorite carols and Adelaide's the place to be. Now.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
I know you never ask an artist their favorite song,
because I always say it was like choosing my favorite child.
But I think I can ask you this question. What's
your favorite Christmas song?

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Look, there's too many, and of course you know we
get to sing them, you know, once a year. But look,
my favorite is always and I think has always been
Silent Night. It's beautiful. It's you know, a beautiful lullabi
And yeah, unfortunately I'm not singing that well.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Weekend, Okay, right, that's the bad news.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, that's the bad news. But I love Silent Night.
It's just yeah, I don't know, it's always just been there.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, that's a classic. So how does it work?

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Do you get like a hat and draw names and
songs out of a hat or are you a signed specifically.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Or a bit like that, because there's so many artists
doing you know one Carol's. You know, we all want
a nice song to sing, so I you know, you
kind of get you get a lift and you check
it twice and you want to find out who's singing
it or not. There. Yeah, yeah, thank you very much.
Well I'm quite plenty at this time of year. But yeah, look,
we all get to kind of put out what we'd

(03:10):
like and what we can you know, sing, So yeah,
it's always nice to and it's also nice to just
share the love and you know, we do do this
out of love and kindness for people and you know, surrounding.
So yeah, it's always nice to kind of make it
a little bit easy but also really enjoyable to sing
and perform and get people excited for Chrissy.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
And now let me ask you this in a non
creepy kind of way case, So if you've been naughty
or nice this year, which one?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Oh look I think I've been a bit of both. Really,
I'm very finely on each, so that standness still comes.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Okay, fair enough. I like you thinking, what's the plan
for Christmas Day? This year.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Christmas Day, I will be up in Sydney with my family.
You know. Unfortunately don't get much time to spend with
my family because I'm always traveling. So you're going to
make the trip up to Sydney from Melbourne and yeah,
spend some family time and then get ready for Years
Eve performing at the ABC telecast.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
You're a busy lady, Casey.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
It's very busy.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah, it sounds like it. Well, Casey, I think it's
not too early to say this. Merry Christmas and look
forward to seeing you Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, I'm Merry Christmas Tree and I'll see you on Saturday.
Bring your singing voices everyone

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Well, of course,
