Speaker 1 (00:10):
I heard podcasts here more mix one or two point
three podcasts, playlists and listen live on the free iHeart app.

Speaker 2 (00:17):

right there, Haley and Max in the morning, eleven degrees
right now, top of sixteen for you on your two
k Tuesday, two thousand dollars at eight o'clock with Haley
Max's money minutes. That's on the way.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
One of the great debates going on in.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Workplaces around Australia at the moment is working from home good,
bad or otherwise. And it's up in the news again
today because the unions are warning of a new working
for home.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Coming for us. They're going to take all of our rights.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
The article goes, employers are seeking the right to trade
off overtime penalty rates and breaks in exchange for allowing
employees to work from home. So the way that this
is going to work in theory is that who's the
Australian's industry group.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
They're the people that are.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
In charge of things, Yeah, one of the industry groups.
The proposal is there's a new work from home clause
that allows the people in charge of the company to say, yeah,
you could work from home. But we're not going to
pay you over time, and we're not going to pay
you for meal breaks again that things like that, because
you're already doing meal breaks.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Whenever you want. It's true at home and your fridge
is right there.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
It's true when you're at home you do like I see,
I don't know. I see both sides. I love a
day a week.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Working from home because I get so much done.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
I actually think my productivity is way higher there because
otherwise I'm just talking to people at work and getting frustrated.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
I need to get my stuff done.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
But when I am home, I'll stop and I'll eat,
I might even have a little twenty minute nap.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
I'll do all the things.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
So as a business owner, to cut that break out,
I think is fair because you do get a heat's
more flexibility.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
This is where you and the unions disagree, because the
person quoted in this article says, this attack is the
biggest act of workplace discrimination.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
And I have seen as a unionist.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yes, it is not a dummy spit from big business
after their anti worker agenda was rejected.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
How is a workplace discrimination? It's now it's a luxury
to be able to work from home.

Speaker 5 (02:23):
You don't have to.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
We don't have COVID anymore. You can go to the office.
Trust me, your company is paying really high rent. So
it's a waste if you're all working from home. And
also there's the people who work from home and they
actually take it seriously. And then there's the people that go, oh, yeah,
I'm going to work from home. I'm gonna go and
do my shopping and I'm gonna get my hair done
all the things.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
The issue is that not everyone works from home properly.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
And the other thing is most of us are liars.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
You miss out on.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
This only existed, has only existed for the last five years.
Yeah since COVID. Before that, no one had even considered it.
No one even considered this is the only way that
I can work. You have this workplace culture, which if
you don't have it at your workplace, that's on you.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
You should have it.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
It should encourage you to do a better job, because
I want Haley, who I sit across from, to do well.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
I totally see that.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
And also, we work in fun environments and my husband
works from home and I think he regrets it because
I get home and I'm talking about all these fun
things that have happened in the office here.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
And then ad a lady and he's got the two dogs.
He just eats. It's lonely.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Like I reckon working from home to just be it's
actually not good for your mental health.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
If you're doing it full time.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
I agree being by yourself is a bad idea. Hayley,
you own a business, would you allow your people?

Speaker 5 (03:37):
We've had this fight for so long.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
So my business partner, Lauren is old school, and I
see her point of view. She wants everyone in the office,
and I get it because it's all about collaborative workplace
and we're all fun together and come up with these
great ideas. But for me, because I do the writing
side of things, my brain can't concentrate when I'm with
heaps of people. So I'm fine for our writers to
be able to do days a day from home to

(04:00):
get their writings side of stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Free slope, though. Can we not just say go and
sit in a quiet part of the office. I get it.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Because I've been I can't. I cannot concentrate. You should
be to our come to our ad lady office. It's
like twelve people talking with ADHD and but you don't.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Concentrate at all, all the colors of the rainbow, all
the time, all of that.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
So if you need to concentrate, I'm fine to work
from home. But also you also do need to earn
that the people that work with us, I trust them
all and if they need to do that, I trust them.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
But if I didn't, I would probably say no, you've
got to come to office.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
My final question for you then, as a business owner,
Haley piece, and this article is all about people that
are working from home and not going to be getting
like paid for breaks.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah, which lunch break or whatever you might get in
the office.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
I don't think you should be because everyone at home
breaks all the time. To be fair, when you work
from home, you probably work maybe four hours straight and
you get so much done that you would in a
nine hour office day.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
So you shouldn't be paid for that for that lunch break.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
And what do you do with the rest of the
four hours?

Speaker 5 (05:02):
You just have naps and go shopping And what do
you do? What are you doing with your hand right there?
What would you do if you're working from home?

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Oh no, I can't not in my jobs? What do
you what do you mean? What are you talking about what.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I'm not talking about anything. I'm talking about you. What
would you do good night?

Speaker 5 (05:18):
Would you Max Burfett at home by yourself?

Speaker 3 (05:20):
What would you do? I was patting my dog, That's
what That's what that hand thing was.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
Mate.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
The Wall of Truth is coming up next with Hailey
and Max in the morning. It's this one.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
If you're a parent, very relatable, you're gonna want to
hear it from Hailey person. Oh my god, this story
here it next
