Speaker 1 (00:10):
I heard podcasts here more mixed one or two point
three podcasts playlists and listen live on the free iHeart app.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
What did that be?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
So Minado Safari Park like forty five an hour away
from Adelaide. Obviously have grown up and Adelaide lived here
my whole life. Never been there, and I've always heard
about it, and you know, little cousins go there on
school holidays and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, it's great and whether on the weekend, it's actually great. Yeah,
it's full wild. You drive up. We stayed up there.
They have a new hotel. It's just open there.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
My wife and Alasa and you drive into the hotel
car park and if you just look over the dashboard,
it's like the giraffes are there.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Eliza, who's obsessed with giraffes, got out of the car
before I had parked it and ran to the fence.
So I ended up getting all of our bags out
of the car because she was looking.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
At the really obsessed, isn't she always has been, that's
a thing. So we had a brilliant time. We went
on these tours while we were there. We did the
line one where they the good it's for them. Yeah,
there's nothing else like it in Australia.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah, and the giraffes themselves. You can feed the giraffes.
You hold out the carrots and they lick your hand
and take it.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Right, you can honestly you're.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Not allowed to pat the giraffe, but you could honestly
pat the giraffe.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Was she right? There? Was she just like fizzing out? Yeah,
she was absolutely losing it. She was blasting off.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
So we did three tours while we were up there, right.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
We did the giraffes, we did the lines, and we
did like an evening safari where you drive around, you
see everything, you see the cheetesh, you see the rhinos.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
It's sick. And at the end of every single tour,
the tour guide Vicky was her name. We had Vicky
for all three coincidentally, she's lovely. She loves it.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Up there, I can tell she and she's so passionate
that and she says to everyone at the end, just
by paying these tickets, just by coming in and paying
the entry for your helping be a conservationist.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, all the money goes back. That's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
We've got this re homing African painted Dogs program in
Chad or something like that.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Excellent. I'm just doing what I can for the people
of Chad, saving the baby white rhinos. That's what your
money's doing. That's what I want to do.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
But at the same time, Elaza and I looked at
each other and we thought, we're a rat in the
ranks here. We're sinners in the confession booth lying to
the priest. Because on the way up to Manado, as
we go up there for our beautiful two day conservations holiday, oh.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
No, please don't tell me.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Friday afternoon Highway Freeway one hundred and ten k is
an hour car in front of us.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I saw it coming to Duck Oh no, family of
Duck Lane.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
You didn't.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
They've gone straight through it. Honestly, it was like watching
ten pin bowling. Oh my god, a whole family wiped out.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Eliza broke out into yours in the car. Oh my god,
all the babies yep. And I was like, this is
the worst thing. Oh god, it is the saddest thing
in the world.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
On the way to Manado Conservation Park, Oh my god,
the mom five minutes later, we both sat in silence.
Eliza stopped crying at this point, and I'm just like,
my sink is full. I've had a big day. Yeah,
we've just watched an entire family of duck wings.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
We take. Oh no, that is so sad. Why did
you tell me that not finished?
Speaker 1 (03:22):
You know I love animals. Two galas are on the
road in front of us, looking right at me, right
at me, staring me straight in the eyeballs. One of them,
I can see, is starting to do it's a little
hop to the side. Yeah. The other one is like
playing chicken with me. And I was like, mate, on
the freeway, I'm driving one hundred and ten k's now here.
I'll break, but I will not swerve and kill my
wife so that I don't hit you. So I've slowed down,
(03:45):
slowed down, couldn't slow down enough.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
You killed another bed.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I went straight through a glass. I couldn't avoid it.
There's nothing I could do.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Didn't do what they do in movies. I just explodes
and all the feathers go everywhere.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
And I got to Menado and I pulled up and
Lasa's run off. Look at the girafts and I run
out to look out the front of the car and
there is just like dust where the wing has hit
the on it.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I could just see exactly, Oh my god, you're just
taking away all the birds in Adelaide.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
And Vicky is just like, thanks so much for me
a conservation who cares about the African painted dogs. I've
just killed a half BirdLife on the way up here.
