Speaker 1 (00:01):
And Amanda jam Nay down to the jonesy demand of
arms for the pub test today calling adults mister and missus?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Does it pass the pub test?

Speaker 3 (00:08):
I saw this.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Bit of audeo on a TikTok and I know it
will drive a lot of people crazy because she's irritating.
But what she says is interesting.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
We s type hitting kids that calling adults mister or
missus or miss so and so outside of school where
I get it, But I'll say that can you stop
teaching them that that is like being respectful? Because like,
isn't the more respectful thing to do to just ask
an adult what they would like to be called.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Also, in America, they have the generic terms of sir
and man. We don't get if someone calls you ma'm
you excuse me? I love it, but we don't have that.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yes sir, no, sir.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yeah, we don't have a generic term for a respectful
word for older people. When we grew up, we called
all our parents, all our friends parents mister and missus,
and to this day I still do. I like this
comment someone's made. I've had my thirty year anniversary A
couple of years ago. I saw my favorite teacher mister McBride.
He said, I think you can call me Tim now.
I said, thanks, but the world would explode if I.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yes, exactly, and I feel that as well in my life.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yes, I think we still but that the new generation
outside of school and the mister and missus, we don't
call older people mister and missus, and maybe should we?
What do you think calling adults that you know, mister
and missuses it past the pub test.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
It's definitely past of the pup test. My wife has
a friend who her children's refer to their parents by
their first names, and it's always just such a weird
feeling to he that as I hope.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
That from dad.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
So I definitely think, even like strangers, mister and missus
definitely past the pub test.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Definitely does. Anybody who studied languages has been overseas. You
never use the polite pronoun unless somebody actually says you
can use it to them.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Growing up, it was jung into us to call an
older per from mister and missus. To this day, there
was no first name basis. It was a no no.
So I say, bring back the etiquette, just like a
simple policeman. I thank you so to me it passed
the pub dab and you call them whatever they want
to be called.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
Some of my mate's parents said, cut the mister and
missus call my first name. Sometimes I had a nickname
for him, other times I was walked in name, Mom,
there are you going? That's how I grew up.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Yeah, remember that you didn't know if the kid's surname.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Hey, miss is Amanda?

Speaker 6 (02:27):
Yeah, Amanda, Amanda.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Can I have a Tim Dan?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
And that's close enough.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Thank you for all your call
