Speaker 1 (00:05):
Amana's cutting rest, A man's gotten real flood.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It's welcome to the cutting room floor, all the sweepings,
the filings, the bits that are left over after the show.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
What didn't we get round to today, Well, talking about
the history of mathematics, we did.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
That, and we did that last week. There's an odd saying,
if you want something done, get a busy person.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
To do it. It's so true, isn't it, because.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
You just get stuff done when you get stuff done.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Do you notice when you're on a holidays? Because you
and I are always busy, But then when you're on
your holidays, you're not busy. One thing can fill the
whole day, and I'm overwhelmed by having to do one thing.
Was if I'm busy, give me a million things, not
do them.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
You are a very busy person. I don't know another
busier person than you. But I'll say this, you never
mentioned that you're busy.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
You mocking me out, Seriously, you don't.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
You don't say I'm so busy. Then you'll meet someone
that gets there. So I'm just so busy, I'm so overwhelmed.
And you go and I always think.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
What do you think?

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Well, this dovetails nicely into this bit of information that
I've got. This headline is branging about how busy you
are makes people think you're an idiot. Really, because not
that I think that someone's an idiot, but if someone
goes I've been so busy, and I go, oh, what
have you been doing? And they'll say this, this and this,
and I said, well, maybe it's not really efficient with it.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Do you tell people that? Because no one likes being
told you're not efficient. That's in my mind and your
mind's eye. What about all those people on Instagram who say,
I'm filming my day. Here, I am at the airport. Here,
I am doing a presentation. Here, I am being an
influence here. Yeah, it's called doing a job. We all
do it.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
No one gives a yah yah yay, Booty Spicy Lake.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
We beat that out later.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's true. No one does, No one gives, no one gives.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
No one's going to reward you for being busy. And
I learned this a long time ago, you know, And
I don't think that it's a compliment. Being told you're
the hardest working person in television or whatever. That's not
a compliment. And I realized too. I once saying to
Nicole Kidman, she'd done a whole stack of films in
the year back to your brag. Well, but I said
to something like that, and she said, Oh, that sounds terrible.
And it's true. You don't want to be the busiest

(02:18):
person because it says that you're not smelling the roses,
that you're not spending time with your family, and you
are doing all those things. But it's not an accolade
to hear that you are the busiest person.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
This is now phenomenon. It's known as busy bragging, the
act of boasting about how busy you are to appear
more professional.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
So you're saying, though that people hearing the brag go,
why don't you shut up?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah. A study by the Personal Psychology Journal, I know
that you're always reading as stacked up next to your toilet.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
I'll do the crosswords.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I found the employees who talk about how much work
they have to do are likely to be perceived as
less likable and less compety.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
That's what you were saying, you think, why don't you
become more efficient?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
These people are known as loud laborers. Oh and stress
bragging can have negative implaes. Cations for brag ads as
they were perceived as less competent by co workers.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
But we've always worked in those offices where people do
really long hours and say, oh I'm still here and
there you think why why? Why long? And some industries
like to see you working long hours. Others are smarter
and know that people get their jobs done. That's all
that's required. You don't have to put in the long
hours to do your job. Necessarily radio that's your lighthouse keepers.

(03:28):
A lighthouse keeper, you can't just do a shorter day.
You have to take care of the hours of the.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Light where you've got one job at night, to make sure.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
During that night you go, look, I did it in
one hour and going to bed. Now you know, you're
just you're keeping the lighthouse.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
You don't have to look after, you don't have to
look out.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Maybe it wasn't the best analogy. You keep in the light,
you know what I mean? Some jobs you do, you
can't do it eight hour operation as a surgeon and
a one hour and say, don't worry, I've done it
so quickly, I'll finishing.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I'm just going to phone this in.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
I'm home to watch tipping point. You're going to say,
one radio station where you work.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
No, all radio stations. I will tell you this, it's
goof off central. Every radio station I've ever worked out
is a goof off central. You can stand around the
water cooler talking to people for half the day, and
that's why people do long days. I'm in and out.
I'm like a duck mating.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Is that quick? Yes? And they leave you with the bill.
I saw it on the web.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I was happy.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
It's never going to be a pun for his own.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
You know that finished his own.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Know that I'd like to swear again. No, you finished
it on a high.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Put a swear in here. Good. That was a good Okay, kids,
that's it for today. Come back tomorrow from Laura Josie
and the man is gone.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Room for it.
