Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda gem Nation. Jeremy Piven. He's been a
staple on TV and movie since the nineties, best known
as Ari Gold in Entourage. What a role. Well later
this year he's bringing his comedy tour to Australia. Here
he is.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Nice to see you, nice to hear you, Jeremy.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
It's so nice to have you on the show. You
have so many fingers in so many pies. Looking at
the length and breadth of the projects you've done is
quite extraordinary. What are some of the funnier things you've
been pitched that you kind of said no to, like
early on with this, some unusual films that were thrown
you away.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I one time they came to me. You know, I'm
a huge Ricky Gervais fan and the British Office is
as brilliant a show and portrayal on his part that
I've never seen anything like it, And they came to
me and they said, would you have any interest? And

(00:57):
you know, the role obviously went to Steve Corell, who
crushed it and was absolutely brilliant. But I remember at
the time thinking, and this is just before I played
Ari Gold. I remember thinking, I literally I'm incredibly vain.
I'm wildly delusional. I think I can do anything, and

(01:18):
yet I can't do any better than what Ricky Gervais
did in the office. And so I said, no, I'm
not going to come in on it just because I can't.
I can't do any better than that. And you know,
after Corell did it, it's very obvious that no one
can and that Gervais is the king. No, I'm just kidding. No, Well,

(01:40):
you know, four hundred and sixty five thousand episodes later,
here is.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
But your character Ari Gold, when you watched those early
episodes of Entourage, he's softer at the start and a
little bit goofy, but towards the end he's a full
on boll.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah. I was very lucky in the way that Ari
Gold is a real character. He represents Mark Wahlberg. He
owns now, the UFC and the WWE and all that,
and he was my agent. He's a very specific character.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
And how would he stand up these days? Do you think,
because now you can't talk to people like that anymore,
like in the workplace.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
No, you can't. But I think, you know, I'm lucky
enough to tour doing stand up and it's just so
cathartic to get on that mic and make people laugh
and just kind of have no fear. And I don't
mean to sound too pretentious or ethereal or spiritual, but
I think the highest vibration is authenticity. And I think

(02:46):
that when you're on stage and you're really connecting with
the audience and making them laugh, there's nothing better.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
What kind of stuff is tickling your fancy? What kind
of stuff do you think you'll be doing on stage?

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Well, I mean, I'm all over the map. The great
thing is is I can take something that's you know,
literally in real time and pull it out of the
headlines and throw it up on stage or things that
are going on in my life, you know. And you
know I'm on set right now, so I'm not in

(03:17):
that stand up gear. But there's so much. I mean, look,
we're navigating Trump and Elon Musk and Kamala Harris and
all of her adorable accents. She's a brilliant actor. She
was just signed to an agency, you know, she's now
an actor. So I unpack all things American and then

(03:40):
juxtapose it to you know, the fine people of Australia,
which I love, and you know, impressions. Doing lines with
my mom, I mean running lines, Sorry, running lines. Don't
you know you don't want to do lines with your mom?
I run line I would run lines with Joy's Piven
and and she was my she.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Was my mother.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
My she passed away recently and uh yeah, and you know,
every time I get on stage, I honor her and
it's it's a blessing.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
I'm sorry to hear that. When you say you're on
set at a movie at the moment, what can you
tell us what movie you're doing.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
It's called Past Life and I'm shooting in Manchester and
it's just this really intense thriller. I can't tell you
too much, but I'm loving it. Last time I was here,
I was shooting mister Selfridge for years and I loved it.
And the people here, you know, I I really gravitate

(04:41):
towards them. They take it very seriously. You know. They've
all been to acting school, drama school. Unlike the Rock.
They've studied acting. And he's the highest paid actor in
the world, but never studied. I am very bitter. I apologize,
but I'm gonna I'm pack all of this on stage.

(05:02):
I'm getting older, I'm getting older. This is how you
know you're getting older. I used to look at a
woman in a short skirt. I will say, Wow, she's hot.
Now I go I wonder if she's cold.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
You know, totally hear it, Jeremy, it's so great to
talk to you. Tickets go on sale this Friday. For
more information, head to tag dainty dot com. Jeremy Piven.
Thank you, Thank you guys. I'll see you very soon.
I'm gonna come into the studio.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
We would love it see you in July.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Whether you like it or not, well, how fabulous. Now
get back on set and do you

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Work, yes, ma'am, yeah, bye, yeah,
