Speaker 1 (00:21):
Jimmy Barnes might just be a cat with nine lives
and aren't we pathetically grateful. Over the past couple of years,
he spent some time in hospital, he spent a lot
of time on stage. He's got a new album called Defiant.
We've been listening to snippets. It is incredible, and he's
about to kick off on a new tour.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Hello Jimmy, Actually, the tourist starts going on.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
We've been in Adelaide, we've done Perth. It's all going great.

Speaker 5 (00:42):
Guns the album we actually actually wrote all the songs
for this album. We're playing them live specifically and right
so these songs.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Also okay, it's also this is the most awkward thing
that you can do with an artist, will sit around.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
And listen to snippets of your songs. So this is Defiant.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
How did that get?

Speaker 4 (01:01):
I wonder, Hey on this is Barnsy. Wow, I've got
a bit, I'm a bit. It's got a bit tad,
it's got a bit later and you go up to bed.

(01:24):
It's got the anger, just ready for the set. I
like it.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
I like this one.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
I like the single. It's a bit of an earworm,
this one. You wrote this. I wrote this with Michael Painter,
you know Michael who Jesus.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
And he was amazing in Jesus.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Great writer, great singer, great guitar player.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Wrote back together with an album called Defiant, and that
really defiant titled song. Obviously, this is you saying I
will survive anything.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
Yes, well, you know, I've been defiant since I was
a kid.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
You know, asked my school teachers.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
But I think in the old days I was probably
more suthern and you know, and belligerent.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
But as I've got older, I've learned more. But being
defiant so a bad thing.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
It's sort of like, you know, people throw things, you know,
if you knock you down, if you learn something from it,
pick yourself up and move forward again, you normally be
a better person from it. So I'm so defiant in
that way. I don't I don't sort of stop learning.
I don't want to, you know, I'll keep coming at
you till I tell I've got something.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
You're a bit of a You're a bit of you
like the terminator.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
You can't kill you. I've done the seven lives, you
got two left.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
But I was watching, like I watched the first show
of the Big Five O the Colature.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
And I just thought, man, how are you going to
keep this up for the whole time? And then the
last show.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
And I was there for the last one.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
We were like the book ends Jones, you at the front,
a man at the back, and I just thought, how
do you do it?

Speaker 1 (02:45):
How?

Speaker 4 (02:46):
How do you do it? Listen?

Speaker 5 (02:47):
That tour particularly was was a breeze because I mean
it was just such a joyous occasion. I mean the
fact that playing fifty years on with my mates and
my brothers, you know, playing those songs shape my life. Yeah,
and playing to an audience who were just who were
literally there with us for every step of this tour
and every step very emotional it was. And they were

(03:08):
singing load on the band, so you know you could
you didn't. I didn't think about it was being hard work.
I've just seen it as let me on there. It
was great for it.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
But I also do know how you do it because
I've seen the food that your wife cooks.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I've seen swimming regime. She puts you through the fitness
that you do. You take your body very seriously.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Well, you have to.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
You know, I'm sixty nine now and I intend to
be doing this for you know, a long time to come.
And you know, I think I'm probably healthier fitter now
than I was when I was twenty one.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
You look at it, you really do do look good. Yeah,
So I'm good. So I mean and to do.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
I want to do what I love and I want
to do it well. And so you know, if I
want to keep growing and keep getting better, I want
to do. I've got to stay healthy.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
That's what you've got to do. And you're very prolific
with the writing. Which what are we working on now?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Working on a new club.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
I've got a new We've I've got a new cook book.
I mean, Jane's got a new cook book and I'm no.
Jane and I have got one together. I write the
stories for her and I do some stuff with the
barbecues and stuff and all that. But it's amazing cookbook,
Four Seasons at the River Bend. But it's about our
garden because we know we've got a fantastic yeah Instagram, Yeah,
we really it's like a market garden.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Should there be something like George Foreman had the grill,
So like, why can't we have some sort of.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
I'm going to Jimmy Barnes, I'll give you the grilling
you grilling company.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I was just thinking, I don't want to spring this
on you, but we've got we've got a book coming
up at the end of the year because it's our
twentieth anniversary.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Seeing such a prolific writer. I'm a good writer.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Maybe you could write a little, you know, because we
need an intro.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
I don't want to do this. Do I say really
good things?

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Now?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:48):
I'd love to have Listen, Yeah, listen.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
I've been a part of the show forever, so why
why wouldn't of course I would, because I would. I
would love to do that, and I'll say really good
things if you give me enough money.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Okay, novelty, you don't have to cash it too big
to cash.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
