Well, Jimmy Barnes, what an incredible man. He's just released
a documentary, Working Classman. He's also embarking on the Working
Classman fortieth anniversary.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Tour, and the great man joins us right now. Jimmy Barnes, Hello.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Hello, he question number one, Jimmy good Where do you
get your energy? Is it the food that Jane cooks
for your Your energy is quite extraordinary? How do you
manage it?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
I think it's a lot to do with what Jane
cooks for me. You know, she gives me the best,
the best of the best. You know, she grows beautiful
vegetables and feeds them to me. You know, she's an
incredible cook because she you know, and it's just one
of those things. I just I'm hyperactive. You know that
I'm hyperactive, And you know I've always been in this way.
And it's ADHD, you know, really and and OCD.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
When you had ADHD and you had O c D,
you could have joined a c D C Yeah, DC,
and we're happy for that. Made that picture on Instagram
of you and Teddy with the cover of Working class Man.
That just made me.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Feel so happy. He's so awesome, you know, he just
just wants to be a part of every and and
he's I like the way he was filling in the
little the little the d s, so it looked to
look like musical, like crotchets. You know, he's already got
his autograph work much better than mine.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
When A Working class Man came out, it was a
difficult time for you because Cold Chisel, the sanctity of
Cold Chisel, you'd left that and so you're out there
on your own.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
It was traumatic.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
How do you feel forty years on looking back at it?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Still a bit traumatic? It was a you know what
because I'd me body Swerve and body Swerve went to
number one, but body Swearth. I just banged it down
and it was a real raw rock and roll record,
and I thought that would just, you know, you know,
bridge the gap from me when I was going into
making or put getting to put out working for the
Working class Man. It was like make or break. Really,

(02:15):
I thought, if I don't do this record right, you know,
my career can go either way. It can go downhill.
Or just or can just fade off it oblivion, and
then it was just you know, I have to put
it out and see what happens. To see and see how.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
It works, You've got to be in the forecourt of
the opera house. I mean, you are selling everyone well.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
You know. The thing is that I've been roam that
it's fifty nearly fifty five years. I've been touring and
U and UH and it's uh and you know, I
literally played for everybody you know individually in this country.
I reckon I've been. I've been in their backyards at
barbecues or bloody oh, you know, I've been run out
of their towns. You know, you know I've been. I've
been sort of I've played for everybody individually. So I've

(02:53):
sort of got a connection sort of emotionally and personally
with everybody. You know, people have seen the best of
being the worst. I mean, I haven't hid it, and
you know, so what you see is what you're getting.
And I think people can can appreciate that. And I've
never put myself up on a pedestal. I've never thought
I was better than anybody because of my rock and roll.
I just think that's what I do for a living,
you know, and and and and and I've seen people

(03:13):
on the street I say, I'm just like you. If
you're going to be a mechanic, do it really well.
If you're going to be a plumber, do it well.
If you're going to Bill Rodes, do it really well.
Put your heart into it and enjoy it. And that's
that's what I do. And I think people can recognize that. Yeah, yeah,
for sure.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
And and thank you for writing the forward to our book.

with me too, which would be great because I've I've
seen kate since right back when we did that first record.
I've watched her career blossom and grow, and you know,
she's she's an incredible girl. We might do a couple
of songs together on that show. Good Gut.
