Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda jam Nation.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Our next guest is an Australian treasure. This actress has
grace screens and stages across the world, from Australia to
Hollywood to Hobbiton. But now she's home for a new
Australian comedy called bow Shalt Not Steal. It's said in
the nineteen eighties Outback Miranda otto, Hello, she.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Is bag good morning.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Just from the get go, I said, in this you
play a cab driver. But Amanda said, you play a
madame or madam for a works out.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Yeah, but you work out of a cab. So are
you like the and you drive.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
The cab or you've got a driver as well, because
it'd be quite crowded in that cab.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
No, I'm driving the cab as well. I'm multitasking.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yes, So tell us about because it says that you're
here in the notes in front of me. Yourre a
cunning madam.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
So are you a bit of a baddie?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, I'm a bit of a baddie. I'm a bit
of an antagonist in this story. Yeah, I'm sort of
in hot pursuit of Sherry, who plays Robert and Robin
is an indigenous Juva juvie girl who breaks out of
juvi and hits the road and then ends up stealing
my taxi and I'm not real happy about that. So
(01:13):
it's kind of a bit of a wild cab cab
ride across the Australian outback.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
And this is said in the eighties. Yes, and so
the cab, what's the cab is it?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Because I remember what I said what happened in particularly well,
actually all the cities, the HQ Holden right up to
the HZ Holden lasted well into the nineties.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So what's the actual cab? Just asking for that would
be a.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Really good deal in question because he was so our director,
he was so excited about the cars. I think he
started with the cars before he actually wrote the whole piece.
I think he found a car and wrote around it.
We've got like this really cool old station wagon as well,
but I can't remember. I think it might be a
Holden the cab that I was driving. It's pretty cool.
(02:00):
I mean it's just like a car, like it's a
you know, a taxi service start in Alice Springs, so
it's not like one of those you know, city cabs
sort of out there in the in the eighties flashed
almost seventies. Really some of the kind of book of
the show.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I love how the car was cast before you. That
is outrageous.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Yeah, but you know, and I think that's that's very
important because a lot of people and I'm not going
to bore you with this because i can see Amanda's
eyes glazing, but for car pervs like me, it's it's
to have the authentic car for the era. But the
thing about that particular model of Holden that lasted, as
I said, well into the nineties, because I was so
(02:38):
reliable as a cab.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah, yeah, I remember them. Yeah for sure. With this
John love the cars. He's really into it.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
With this show being said, obviously in the outback and
filming in the outback, you have such a beautiful fair complexion.
How did you go?
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I know, I always know a lot about like different
sun screens and stuff like that. I have to be
so careful because I'm so fair. But yeah, no, all good.
You know, it was it was it was pretty hot
out there. It was. It was a pretty wild rabbed
ride to you know, sort of come from la and
then like head out to the middle of Australia. I'd
worked out in Our Springs before and really loved it.
(03:19):
But it was really fun going on the road. I'd
never been to Kooba, PD before that that's a trip.
That's really a trip.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah. Great.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
And also you start alongside Noah Taylor. You two work
together in the Nostrodama's Kid was at like early nineties.
How was that reunion? Have you been mate since then?
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I haven't seen Noah that much over the years, Like
I ran into him like a Nick Cave concert years
ago in Brixton, but I think he's been living in
Europe for a long time. But it was great to
see him. And he's so funny in the show, just
so funny and committed, and yeah, he's just great. It
was so nice to see him.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
In a way, it's a bit of a money making
exercise when you think about it, I'm surprised you don't
see more.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Of it, like something being running a brothely a brothel,
but people aren't having sex in the cab.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Do they have sex in the cab?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
No, not in the cab. It's sort of more things
going on in a lot of the big sort of
like freighting trucks that are driving up and down the
highway and stuff, because.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
You see it, and they've got plenty of room in
those things. I often want.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, and then there's a bit of caravan action in
the show as well.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Gladys and Harry. You're traveling around the gray Head No
Man's and he orders a prostitute. I know, I meant
to order a pizza. I've got the wrong app on
my phone.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
It does sound fascinating.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I think this sounds wonderful and we love everything you do. Miranda,
thank you for joining us.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
You watch the Stand series Thout Shall Not Steal now
only on Stand. Don't just watch it for the cabs, Okay,
watch it for Miranda Rta.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Miranda, Hey, thanks every good morning.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Thank you bye.
