Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jes and Amanda jam Nation is the thing.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Our next guest light up our screens with his quick
wits and his humor. But Peter Hellier has been keeping
himself busy in another way, adding another book to his
ever growing collection of children's books. The newest one is
Detective Galileo.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
To tell us more, Peter Hellia, Hello.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Here he is, Hello, Amanda, Hello Jonesy, good morning.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Always great to talk to you, Jonesy.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
We've been playing bits from Jones's old band that he's
discovered an old cassette from his band Bad Element when
he was about eighteen. Have a quick listen to this people,
it's a sinus convention.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
It's very hard to sing and drum heng the big roller.
But what's hard to do?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Begs the question Peter that Jonesy and his friends reconnected
on the phone to chat about things. I said, you're
going to work on a reunion. He just wants to
work on the T shirt. And he was suggesting that
you probably start with your cover design before even writing
a book.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
And I dispute that.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Oh, that's a very that's a very good question. By
the way, Josie Bad Element, love the name, Love the name.
I don't work on the cover, but I do. I
do try to. When I do a comedy, like an
hour comedy show. I love it when I get my
artwork because I can kind of see the show a
(01:21):
little clearer. And can I can? I just can I
just stay on the bad element stuff because I had
a band. I've got no musical talent, but when I
was in primary school, I started the band and we
would mime like camps and you know, sleepovers we had,
and we were called Peter and the pink Ets, and
(01:41):
and I all my friends, I was the lead singer,
the lead Mima and my friends all wore pink because
other pink ets. And I wore a black mister T
T shirt from I got a Marinbula and and we
rocked the house. We really rocked the house. And then
the year after we must have gone through some puberty
(02:01):
because I got wet. We got a little bit like,
I don't know, we became a little bit self conscious.
And I changed the name of Peter and the Pink
Cats and we to call it a band called Faded Shadow.
We became a bit serious. We became a bit serious,
and and and then still then Amanda, we've never sung
a word. We were always with the Pink Cats. They
(02:26):
were all males. Yes, yes, we were, we were We
were the Pink Cats. Oh no, I mean it was
considered considered very brave back in four But I mean, yeah,
I found a loophole by but not being a Pink Cat,
by being the lead singer and being Peter of the
Pink Cats.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
So you're the boss of the your mates are dressed
up in pink. That's I think you saved the day
I did.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
But I want more bad Bad Element and I are
you surely there's a region to a company.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
We're getting the shirt. We're getting the shirt too scared
to get the regiion.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
We've got one shirt which has got my design, which
is a motorcycle helmet on like a skull wing a
motorcycle helmet with pistons and spanners.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
And I've got a design which is like a broken
stovetop with three working elements in.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
One that isn't well. As Billy Bragg says, the Revolution
is only a T shirt away bringing on Bad Element.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Us about Detective Galileo.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
A Detective Galileo. I absolutely love this. This is actually
a very early kind of stand up comedy idea that
I had many years ago and now I've turned it
into a kid's book. He's a trail horse. He comes
from his family generational trail horses. They take tourists along
the beach. But he dreams of another thing. He dreams
(03:52):
of becoming a police horse so he can solve crimes.
And he finally joins the police force and he attempts
to solder crime, but he quickly realizes that's not their job,
that they're there to ferry around the police officers and
and basically walk around the city streets and poop on
the road. So he gets kicked off the police force
(04:12):
and he begins his very own detective agency. So a horse,
and I believe we've done the fact checking. It is
the only detective agency run by a horse.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
And it would be very hard to pick up a
magnifying glass though well.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
I mean, if you if you see the front cover,
you obviously you have because he's holding somehow he's holding glass.
And I'm not taking any other follow up questions based
on that.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Pete Hactors has designed the book cover before the week
because these are the piece the questions and people are
going to ask.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
You know, how hard it is. Illustrated is a fantastic
illustrated Andy Joyner, and it took a while to find
because it's very hard. I'm not sure if you know
it's very hard to draw a horse. I'm not sure
if you don't how hard this is to draw a horse.
I had no idea. If you think about it, if
you try to draw a horse, and I challenge you
both to draw a horse, give yourself like a minute
(05:10):
to draw a horse. It's very hard. It's very hard.
Make sure we had to get the head right in
the body wrong, or the body right and the head wrong.
Try to draw yourself a horse one now I'm.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Doing and my thing, I get stuck on the genitalia
that's always mine.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
In Trouble at Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
There's no guarantee parents. There's no genitalia in Detective Galileo.
We've kept that. We've kept that out.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
I'm just telling you.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
I know you can't see this peak, but there's my horse,
and here's mine.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I would I would love you to send those to
me because I'm going to I'm actually collecting with friends
pictures of horses.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
You said we only had, you know, a few seconds,
because I obviously would finess it more otherwise.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, okay, I'll allow that.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
I think I've given it a doll knows though.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
That's what happened. That's what happens. And maybe this is
the cover of your book. Maybe this could be maybe,
and maybe when Peter and the pink Heads get back
together again.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah, well book is coming in November, so we need that,
we need to cover, you know, pretty quickly.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
And what middle aged man wouldn't like to rejoin the
pink Heads?
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Oh, exactly right, I think, Peter, the pink Heads are
the bad elements you.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Guys mind.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Okay, okay, so what you say your headline and will
support its.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Mind to bad element the worst of all will people
are saying festivals are the ending, No one's going to
festivals anymore.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Will give them back their festivals? This is a show. Well, Peter,
it's always good to talk to you, chick.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Pick up a copy of Pete's book, Detective Galileo that's
out this week.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Peter, Hell, are you thank you for joining us?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Thanks legends, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Look after yourself
