Speaker 1 (00:05):
Washa Gutensburg is here because he's, apart from being on
the Bachelor, of course, is also nominated for the Gold
Logi and I want him to be a part of
our competition. I'll tell you about that just a moment.
Good to see you. And also apart from the Gold Logi,
he's also a mental health advocate and he's written a
very personal book called Back After the Break, where he
talks about his dealings with anxiety.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
How are you, buddy, I'm okay, Thank you, Phil, Congratulations,
thanks man.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Who are you up against?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I am the guy that at his first European World
Youth Championships looked across at the starting box and when
I'm really good, it's my heart remeter sprints. There's that guy,
oh as Usain bolt A, Shan mccauliffe, Julian Morris and
Hamish Blake.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Okay, let me throw this into the equation. If you're
going to use a racing one Stephen Bradbury, mate, slip
on the red carpet.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Next thing you know, you walking up with the gong
or publicly voted.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
It doesn't make any difference. Things could change.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
There was a time where I couldn't get employed until
vision in Australia, like literally just over ten years ago.
And to go from that to this is I don't know,
it's kind of proof that, Yeah, if you listen to
your doctor and you do what they tell you so much,
things might actually work out.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Do you also highlight anxiety for those of us that
suffer from anxiety? And I've suffered from anxiety And it
got to the stage where and I saw Whipper from
Fitzing and Whipper talking the other day about how he
was crying for no apparent reason. And I did that once.
By a time I got so crippled by anxiety that
I walked away from my career because I couldn't deal
with that.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
And with me both I really relate to that. What's
for me what's anxiety? Anxiety is I have no control
over a situation. What am I more in control than
what I'm on stage? What am I more in control
than when I'm on radio or on television? I am
the one in charge of who speaks. When I know
exactly what's going to happen, I know what song is
going to play, I can say, Yester, no, I'm decided.
I mean complete control what I'm on air, everything is perfect.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Exactly because that's your on air presence. But forget about Oh,
I'm going to then go back and second and third
guess every single thing. I'm even get so bad where
I was hello to someone and then question whether or
not my hello was misinterpreted, And it takes a long
time to get through that. And it's so important that
you highlight and thank you so much for doing this,
the importance of anxiety in society because people have it

(02:13):
and there's nothing wrong with you by having it, and
you can overcome it.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
You didn't ask for it, but it happens. Understand that
it's going to be there for a while, but it's
going to go away if as long as you treat
it like that and not like there's something fundamentally wrong
with who I am. Isn't. It's just the way that
your brain works and is. But you got to take
responsibility for it, because not taking responsibility for it, it kind
of spins out of control.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
And you can't live your life like that old show.
You cannot be a prisoner to your own thoughts.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
And there's the thing you're worth more than that the
people around you love you and getting help understanding you
need help is not a weak thing. If you don't
have the right tools to deal with the problem, you
aren't going to fix it.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
And I have this saying as well, I've had some
really terrible things in my life and some of them
actually happen so easy to invest in.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Oh, bro, mate's amazing.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Good on you for doing that. Go the gold Logomi.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Look it's a publically voted thing.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
I voted for you.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Well, thank you.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
