Speaker 2 (00:12):
The pub test today is saying no to birthday parties.
Does it pass the pub test?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Well, this woman who writes books on parenting has said
that she doesn't allow her kids to go to birthday
parties because she does sometimes, but she often has family
things that she prioritizes over that if they want to
go for a bushwalk or whatever, they do, she says,
I think it's more important that the family spend time together.
The other side of this argument is people saying, well,

(00:38):
you know the kids, this is how they learn to socialize.
This is what the whole class is doing. Why would
you exclude them from Do you.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Have to do the hang around?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Now?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Is that a thinker was back in my day? You
didn't have to do the hang around When I was
a kid. You just get dropped off at the local
meth lab for the kid's birthday party. And your parents
are a great theme than parents. Would you up some
methys us some hours later?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Well?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
It is hard these days. The parents often have to
hang around your day's gone there, the whole weekend is gone.
Saying no the birthday parties does it pass the pub test?
I think it does pass the pub test. I personally
say no to birthday parties just with the cost of presents.
You've got kids for there's just no time for you.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I find it difficult to believe that this woman can say, though,
when most parties, from my experience, are organized six to
eight weeks beforehand, and that she's organizing general family activities
greater than six to eight weeks beforehand. I mean most
fights will be organized probably a week or two tops.

(01:39):
Of course, not no way, could you.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Be going out to socialize, have that connection with other kids.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Why would you want to say no to work? Come on, Jones,
do you like kids? You should know?

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Do you what I do know?

Speaker 1 (01:51):
You just ended the conversation with a big spike. You
said it's like kids sport. Have you kept your kids
away from sport because you didn't know.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
They played sport? My son played soccer and my daughter
played net. For my other son, I took him to
Oztag one time, and we're on the way to oz
Tag and he said, I don't want to play ostag
And I said, but I don't want to take you
to and he said, well, why are we doing this?
And I said, because your mother wants you to do
And then I said, if you don't want to do it,
you don't have to do it. And he's not a
sporting kid.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
It was hard with us with cricket because they both
played rugby, but cricket takes up all day and they
were in Both boys were in separate teams, so a
parent had to stay there all day. So I must
say my son's cricketing career was over because I just
couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah, but you guys are pretty diligent with your kids spored.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I know, but the cricket, I'm sorry, Jack, sorry Liam.
We just couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
You could have been playing for a s.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
You could have, but mum was tired.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
You're working down the local meth La.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
We wanted an afternoon's sleep. Read her Dragon Pawn when
she got home.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Thank you for all your calls.
