Speaker 1 (00:01):
And Amanda jam Nation.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Did you know that in Australia brain cancer is the
leading cause of death in children and adults under forty
That's staggering and yet so little is known about it.
Kieran Neeson hopes to change that. His dad, Doc Neson,
front man of the Angels, sadly lost his life to
brain cancer in twenty fourteen, and since then Kieran has
been advocating and supporting research. Wow two about putting your

(00:25):
feet where your mouth is. This month is going to
be strapping on his boots and hitting Mount Everest to
raise funds for the cause. Kieran High Everest. Can't you
just do maybe host a fundraiser in the city.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I thought we do something a little bit more challenging
for this one, But yeah, have done the Seven Bridges
Walk many times todaise funds for for cancer research. But yeah,
this is a really good challenge and yeah, so grateful
to be aligned with the Marquis Foundation. I've been working
with them for several years now, helping them with their
Beny for brain cancer round with the NRL, and yeah,

(01:01):
just really looking forward to it.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
It's been a remarkable turn of events for Mark Hughes
as well, hasn't it.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, he's such an inspiration James. He was diagnosed in
twenty thirteen and brain cancer has a five percent survival
rate post five years. This will be ten years this
year and ten years since the foundation started next year,
and he goes on all these tricks. He leads from
the front. Yeah, amazing foundation to be part of. And yees,
super grateful to be going on this trek with the

(01:27):
likes of Mark. And Mark's going to be trecking too,
Mark's trekking. Yeah, absolutely, he's Yeah, leading from the charge.
Danny Bideiris will be there, Trenton Robson from the Roosters,
Billy Peden and twenty other trekkers like myself who've been
impacted by brain cancer.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
So Everest, it's not easy. There's strength, endurance, altitude. What
kind of training are you doing?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, there's a because I live up on the Central
Coast and there's an altitude gym in Gosford that basically
takes out normal oxygen that we breathe here is about
to twenty and in the attitude gym it's about twelve percent.
So it just helps you climatize to around forty three
hundred meets above sea level, So been doing quite a

(02:10):
bit of that interval sprints on the bike, a lot
of walking in that sort of environment, and yeah, hoping
that would get me over the line.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Your life has changed a lot recently. You became a
dad to twins earlier this year. Congratulations. I did that
make you miss your dad even more?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Becoming a dad yourself?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah it does, Yeah, it does definitely. Yeah, tugged in
some heart strings because you you know, there's not a
day that goes past I don't think about him, and
you know how much he would have loved to experience
being your grandfather, and you know he would have had
the guitar out the first day that they came home,
or even in the hospital, considering we spent the better
part of three months in there. And you know our

(02:49):
little boy Patrick, I mean dad was Bernard Patrick Neeson
and he's Patrick Anthony Bernard Neeson. So yeah, try and.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Call your daughter, doc.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Alexandra. Alexandra Ronesan is our little girl first. Yeah, I
love that.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, but you know, your dad, It just the time
just passes though, Like it's been almost ten.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Years, it'll be ten years next year, and it's just
incredible to to think about that. I mean, this year
was ten years since we had the Rock for Doc concept,
which you guys obviously in Yeah, And I mean I'm
sort of looking and starting to sort of map out
what a Rock for Doc two point zero to celebrate
ten years could look like at the moment. So stay

(03:33):
tuned on that front.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Well, we'd love to be involved in that. So we
get the band back together.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
How can we help you here? How can people practically
help you on your journey?

Speaker 1 (03:42):
So for those that do want to contribute, now, there's
a couple of ways to do it. You can go
to the Marcus Foundation website. There is a section on
the website about the Everest Trek and you can have
a look at all the different people that are participating
in the trek, myself being one of them, and you
can donate and uh and make a contribution there.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Well, this is great, as Doc would say, this is it.
Folks over the top.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
That's right, that's a big top.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
It's a big top. Kieren, it's always great to talk
to you. To make a donation, go to Markusfoundation dot com.
Doda you Kieren Neeson, thank

Speaker 1 (04:14):
