Speaker 1 (00:01):
And Amanda jam Nation. I think most of us of
our age know the story behind the relationships in Fleetwood
Mac and how complicated they were, and how they loved
the music so much and what they were creating that
they put their personal relationships and differences and love stories
to the side. They all had a bit on the site,
but a whole new generation are discovering Fleetwood Mac music
(00:23):
and the story behind the characters in Fleetwood Mac. So
you had Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham who are in
a relationship from the time they're about seventeen. Lindsay's invited
to join a band that becomes Fleetwood Mac, and he said, come,
my girlfriend, come to who happens to be Stevie Nicks,
who had been writing, had been working as a waitress
and raising a whole lot of money doing all that
kind of stuff, while Lindsay sat at home in his
(00:44):
underpants doing not much. So lucky she could sing Yeah.
So when John n can I bring yoka right? Okay?
So there are two of those. There were John and
Christy McVie, a married couple as well, and then there
was Mitt Fleetwood, who was actually married to Paddy Boyd's sister,
Patti Boyd, who was married to Here we Go George
(01:07):
Harrison and then to Eric Clapton. Her sister was married
to Mick Fleetwood. Patty Boyd is the is the inspiration
for Layla Yes, and Jenny Boyd was an inspiration for
Jennifer Juniper and was amused to many musicians. They're both
these incredible sisters. They must be they must be pretty
good at what brendan, you know, to be getting that
(01:31):
sort of you know, those accolades. All right, let's move on.
She was Jenny Starfish. One's writing a song about her.
So within the history of the relationship, just the overview,
Lindsey and uh Stevie are always breaking up at the
(01:52):
one point, then she forms a relationship with Mick, which
of course upsets Jenny even and they had two children together.
They split blah blah blah. So it was, and then
Christy and John McVie split up. Mess, mess mess. Through
all of it, the band stayed together was quite extraordinary,
And so when you go back and look at the
story of the songs, you can hear all the heartbreak
(02:13):
and all the musings in the lyrics. My favorite song
in the history of the universe is this one Landslide
and I saw Letcher Snoow covered. So this was written
when Stevie was contemplating should I go back to school
and keep studying, should I continue professionally with Lindsay Buckingham,
Should I continue personally with Lindsay Buckingham. Things were in
(02:34):
a state of flux, and she decided, I'm going to
make a decision for the music. I'll choose the music.
So they then they start to break up in the
midst of the success of Fleetwood Mac. Everything's falling apart
for them as a couple. And Lindsay Buckingham this is
very interesting. He wrote this song go your Own Way,
so they're all singing along back up things. All of
this to the song about him saying why you rack off? Right?
(02:57):
Because he said you choosing to go? He said, I
was completely devastated when she took off. I had to
do a lot of things for her. I had to
write all this music. I had to keep rising above
it professionally. Was in fact he was the one being
rude around Joe. He was the one rude to Tooting.
So then she wrote in response the song Silver Springs.
(03:22):
The footage that's doing the circle at the moment on
social media. Is her singing this powerful lyric into his
face as they're performing on stage, and the chemistry between
them is still there, but it's such a haunting negative.
So it's amazing that song. The lyrics are saying there,
don't say she's pretty and did you say that she
(03:43):
loved you? Baby, I don't want to know. You'll never
get over the voice of the woman who loves you.
And then Lindsay had this No that was his solo career.
You know, there's one song that all five they're contributed
as the writers, all five of them have contributed to
this extraordinary song, the Chain, because they all got back together,
(04:06):
they all despite all the stuff that was going down.
The chain has held them together the love of the music,
because stuff has held them together. Wow, amazing. And what
about this one that's from Stevey's solo album, Let's get
back to Jenny, shall we? Jenny Starfish? No one's written
(04:29):
a song about Jenny Starfish
