Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ghosts Australia premieres this Sunday night on Channel ten and
Paramount Plus. It is a new local adaptation of a
show which is already critically acclaimed in the UK and
the US, and our stars are very Ownmandy Mcalinny and
she's with us now, Good morning, morning.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Money, good money.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Did I get all that right? It is the Australian
version of a show that has proved very popular. Is
the Is the premise going to be the same?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, I mean we haven't changed any of the things
that really really work, yeah, which is basically, you know,
a young carple move into a house, they inherited a house,
and it happens to be inhabited by a whole bunch
of ghosts who've been there for years, living in a
very dysfunctional sharehouse kind of situation. And all the ghosts

(00:53):
have basically stayed exactly the same as they were when
they died. But the things that it different is, you know,
the particular Australian sense of humor, which is its own,
you know, exactly fit into the UK and the US.
And also just because we have a different history here,

(01:15):
so the ghosts are from our own history, so I'm
playing an Irish woman who emigrated in the eighteen hundreds
and escaped the famine in Ireland and moved here, and
yeah she's still pretty much the same.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, well that we have that we have in common
with other parts of the world, because plenty of Irish
came here to escape said famine.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yes, exactly. We have a Chinese gold miner who came here,
you know, looking for gold and died yees, minus his pants.
But that's another story.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Just having a look at the cast shot and I see, okay,
well that that's going to be a story in and
of itself.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Mandy, that the show was. It was filmed around per
any particular locations we can keep an eye out for.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yes, we we filmed in Wilford because you know there's
quite a lot of historic Yeah, yeah, yes, at Woodbridge House,
which was Yeah, it was. It's a spectacular building and
quite creepy, so a good way, yeah, in a good way, yeah, maddam. Sorry,

(02:44):
usual locations here and just such a joy to be
able to film something in my hometown.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Well, this is what I was going to say. You know,
we are unashamedly we can be a little parochial aus
Perth people, I know I am, And does it does
it give you? So I'm thinking when you can come
back home and film something here, to give you a
little bit of a buzz to be filming in your hometown.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It's like a dream come true, it really is. It
was I was just I was just so proud of
the workers here, the people that created the show, the
cast and crew, and and the locations we have, and
that we've got a really thriving industry here now and

(03:30):
people really want to come and make the most of
it and film things here. And and you know, I've
been acting for a few years now, and and that
is a definite change. I can feel a shift towards
a really vibrant industry. And and that was I was
just filled with so much pride.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
We are the location, do you yeah, Studios about to open.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
It's going to get even better really well. Yeah, And
I think w A will be proud of our film
industry pretty soon.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
We totally are.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
I have to ask. I have to ask a question.
So you're in a series called Ghosts. Have you ever yourself,
personally being honest, had an encounter with a ghostly creature?

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Look, I've I'm very open to the idea of seeing
ghosts and very very excited about having my first ghost experience.
I have spent a lot of time working in theaters,
and you know they're generally full of and you know, phantoms,
and you know also yes exactly, but also you know

(04:47):
smoke effects and lighting and things like that, so they
can play tricks on your eyes. But I'm yes, I'm
saying that, I see.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
You're open to the idea, but still waiting for that
first encounter.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
They say, the ASTA Theater is just right for them,
full of the.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
One last thing, if you if you had to pick,
do you prefer the UK or the US version of
the show other than the Australian.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yes, of course, the Australians my favorite. Yes, we've done
a great job, but I do have a soft spot
for the British just because it was the original series.
And yes, the Horrible Histories crew, I don't know if
you're familiar with there. Yes, they're the ones that created it, so.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
And probably the humor is a little more similar to it.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, I think they make better.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Absolutely well, Maddie.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
We look forward to seeing the premiere on Sunday night
on ten and Paramount lovely to chat to you this morning.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Lovely to chat to you.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Thank you, good luck with ghosts. Bye,
