Hayden Young checked in ahead of this weekend’s sold-out final at Optus Stadium, where 60,000 fans will watch the Dockers take on the Gold Coast Suns. Rested after a weekend off and enjoying some whale watching at Leighton Beach, Hayden said the team is ready for the opposition’s best. The weather's just been amazing, so it's like it sort
of feels like finals time in the weather at the moment,
which is which is nice. So I've been out swimming
the whales and enjoying my weekend off.

That's what you've been doing. How about the team, how
have they been preparing differently?
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Well, that's a good question. I feel everyone's enjoyed a
bit of time off.

I know the boys.

A few lads went across to Rottenest on the weekend
and enjoyed some of the weather over there and had lunch.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
But yeah, everyone's feeling really excited.

It's sort of funny when you have a week off
and you come back there's no game to sort of review.
So this first half of the week's been pretty sharp,
which has been nice.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I think that's refreshing.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
The season can get quite monotonous at times, and it's
been nice to sort of refresh and come in and
be trained yesterday and had a really really sharp session.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
And then we'll train again today. So I mean, everyone's
feeling really good.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
It's super excited, and one thing we have noticed is
that everyone in Frio is super excited about what's happening,
and a lot of people have been stopping us in
the street and saying good luck, and yeah, the excitements building,
which is just great to say in the city of
Frios coming to life.

I haven't been down to Frio for a little while,
but they've got the streamers up like they used to
have them in all days.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I think they're just keeping it, keeping it, yeah, just.

Yeah, the first weekend titles, keeping it on it. But
surely the team is feeling confident because you go in
with you know, one twelve out of your last fourteen games.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah, No, we are certainly feeling really good about our
footy at the moment, and I think we've got a
good look at what our best looks like and obviously
when we don't get it right, sort of the contrast
to the Brisbane game and the Doggies game, both against
really quality opposition, and yeah, a lot of the things
that we did did right were pretty easy fixes.

It was about doing it together as a team and
just exe.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Getting your job, and we were able to do that
for longer against Bulldogs, and I mean that's the blueprint
going forward, and no matter who we asked, gold Coaster
a really quality opposition and whoever we first going forward,
if we win, you know, it's just about doing it together,
which is in this case it's the purple point.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
And having that week off and not having to travel
for your first final, that must be a real, a
real bonus.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Yeah, definitely, that's one thing that after the Doggies game,
we were pretty happy that we sort of locked in
a home final because, yeah, it's a big advantage in
any final, but particularly when we get to play in
front of our home crowd. It's sold out pretty much,
so we're going to have close to sixty thousand there,
which would just be absolutely amazing.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
And yeah, from memory.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
The last time I played a final Adopters, it was,
you know, one of my favorite games we've been a
part of, and it was by far the loudest game
I've been at, so super exciting.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well, it is the Sun's first ever finals appearance. You
remember your first ever finals appearance and it was, as
you said, you played it home. Can you imagine how
they're feeling coming in coming here and being their first

I don't think we'll make them feel welcome, but I
think we've got to expect they're going to be pretty

ready for their best, and we think it's going to
be a pretty fierce contest. They're a team that's really
strong in the contest and that's where they games won

But we're certainly leaning on a homegrown advantage and leaning
into our crowd and getting.

They're practicing at home all Rady, one of the Sun's players,

be disappointed if you went easy?

I think so I think definitely when you cross that
white line, doesn't matter how close your relationship is, just
it's footy and you just got to right there compete
and at the end of the day, end of the season,
you know we're still mates, and yeah, that's all good.
But I'm sure he'll want to win just as much
as I want to win, and that's what's going to
make it a great contest.

Yeah, regardless of what happens and how far Free are
go in the finals, this will be Mat five's final
game at OPTAs, so there is that to consider as well.
Didn't he is the five final? Didn't he give you
a big finals message this week?

learned from finals and what this moment sort of requires
from us. And no, I mean whenever five he speaks,
