Speaker 1 (00:00):
You can catch John Bishop at the Riverside Theater Friday,
December twelve. Tickets are available through ticket Tech and John
is with us right now.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning, John, Good morning, Lithan Mo Good good.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
You come into Australia to celebrate twenty five years. The
show is called twenty five Years of stand Up.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
It was a big brainstorm for that one, was it?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
It was? Yeah, it took ages to come up with
that side.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
It works, you know, it says what's in the box,
twenty five years of stand up? I believe your first
show was a show in Manchester at the Frog and Bucket.
I do love the name of English pubs. Do you
remember much about that show?
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I remembering about Yeah, yeah, yeah, tell I tell the
story in this show because this is it's celebrating twenty
five years since that first over night.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
And that first over night was never planned. Yo. I
wasn't sure who wanted to be comedian.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
I was a month away from being thirty four when
I did that that face gig at the Frog and Bookers,
and I didn't leave me job. So I was forty,
so I never thought that this would be me, me
real career on my job. So it's a celebration of
all of that. But in order to celebrate it, what
I've done in the UK, I've done all of the arenas,
so all of the biggest venues in the UK. Plus
(01:22):
I went back to the Frog and Bookers that was
on the tour.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
It's like the Beatles going back to the Kevin Clubs.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, it's exactly exactly, Russell.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
You've said everything that everyone said exactly the same thing,
mainly just me and you have said it.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
But I'm going to I'm going to take that quote
down for it and everywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Well I mean that that moment. Uh look just jumping
forward a little bit here, but at that moment we're
all going to get to see in in January because
I made a movie about it.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Well inspiring yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
So if there's a movie coming out called This This
Thing Gone, it's got will or Nett in it, who's
playing the character based on me and Laura dern It
plays the character based on my wife or inspired by
for one of the Best of Friends. Yeah, and they's
directed by Bradley Cooper.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Pretty amazing.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Bradley Cooper plays the character the best friend of will
ar Nests so in effect my best friend. I cannot
tell you how many of my mate acclaiming that Bradley
Cooper is them.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
What about I want to know how your wife feels
about Laura Dern because Laura Dern is amazing.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Well, it's absolutely brilliant. So what happened when Laura got
the party? You got in touch with my wife. So
this would have been because we had to wait for
Bradley Cooper to finish Maestro, so this would have been
maybe eighteen month two years ago. Maybe Laura got in
touch with my wife because we've got mutual friends, and
then met up with her in London and had a
(03:04):
lunch with it and and just went through everything, and
Laura was taking various notes off Melanie, my wife about
you know what happened the experience. And there's a particular
scene which is where they're dealing with headlines with the children,
which is just just based on that lunch, just based
on what happened. So yes, so she's Laura is as
(03:28):
close to my wife as my wife is an only child.
But if she had the sister I think.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Would be that's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
It was fantastic. But by the way, just mentioned that
she's an only child. If there is anyone listening, do
not marry an only child. They've never had a dead leg.
They don't know how to compromise.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Good advice. John, Hey, John, just quickly on the movie
again when you know obviously you know Bradley Cooper directing
it and everything. He said, we'd like to do a story.
We'd like to do this movie based on your life story,
but we just won't do the accent bit, right.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Yeah, Well, the thing when we're developing it all, it
was always going to be in America. But there's a
lot of references to Liverpool. Yeah, a lot of references
in there, and as it happens.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Will are this.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
There's also a Liverpool fan, yeah, which is a little
known fact.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
He's been to anfield, he's been to.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Wats Liverpool and we're gonna go together, I think in January,
to go to a match together.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
So he understands the culture, understand the culture.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
He understands it. He understands it, but in a smooth
American say right.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
You're in New Zealand at the moment. But many differences
or likenesses between Ozzie and Kiwi audiences at the shows.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
I think to be honest with it. Yeah, funny is funny. Yeah.
People around the world if something's funny, they laugh at it.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
And if you're talking about a relationship or you're sawing
about something that's fun in England it translates I've not
really found it to be different or difficult.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I think the difference.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Between the Australian audience and the New Zealand audience is
that we're not playing crickets against this one.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
I mean the atmosphere might be different when I get
over to page you.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Are here in the middle of the ashes. Well, I
think on that note, funny is funny. We will let
you go and remind everyone that tickets are available through
Ticke Tech for the show at the Riverside Theater, great
venue for an evening with John Bishop on Friday December twelfth.
Thank you for joining us Times Russell, thank you see
(05:41):
you in December, which is not far away.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
So bye. Thanks last se
