Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is Remembrance Day, formally known as Armisiste Day, which
it was until after World War Two when because they
weren't expecting to have another war, and so the armistice
was signed at eleven o'clock on the eleventh of the
eleventh of nineteen eighteen.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
And that's why every year we have a minute silence
we do at eleven o'clock, which we will this morning.
We will pay tribute at eleven.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Am on ninety six a FM one hundred and seven
years ago. The war didn't stop though. The war didn't
officially end until nineteen nineteen, which always confused me as
a kid. I used to see the war memorials and
it would say nineteen fourteen to nineteen nineteen, and I
thought it was nineteen eighteen.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
But the armistice was a suspension, that's correct, the fighting

(01:16):
You know, everybody forgets that a lot of civilians perish
in wars as well. We remember everything it.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Comes of them.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Nothing good ever comes from. But today's a good day
to pick up a poppy. There will be RSL volunteers
will be everywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
They've been everywhere for a few days now, but they
will definitely be everywhere today.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
You'll find them at various shopping centers and other places
around Perth. I know Willies are doing things Bunnings office works,
but numerous places around around Perth, around way where you
will be able to pick up a poppy to mark
Remembrance Day. Twenty twenty five

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage

Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
