Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, mayor good morning money Care both.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Before we begin, Mayor, we did receive a fine call
from Jill. Have a listen to this question.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
This is Jill Hoger, one of your listeners. I wonder
if you when you get trees are harding on the
radio talking about exclude I think we used on Prisday morning.
Could you please ask U about the Mount Quasi overpath.
Does who's playing for it and how long before works fifted?

(00:29):
Because it's a great inconvenience for the local people.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
It's a great question, Mayor far away.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yes, very good question and thank you Jill. It is
I'll talk about the fact that this accident that happened
with wind turbine has caused a lot of stress for
residents north of the war Ago and those people who
normally use that overpass. We're seeing really heavy traffic. I'm
having residents tell me that it's delaying during peak hour
an hour or more their trips each way. And so

(00:56):
I'll speak to the repair and Jill asked who's who's
paying for it and how long it will take? So
that'll be the responsibility of either the state and federal
government or if it was at the fault of the
haulage company. Then they will pay for it. They will
go through a legal process. There's also on the books
a permanent upgrade which is basically building another interchange just
to the east of that upgrade that has received full

(01:20):
funding from the state and the federal governments. But we
don't know when that work is starting. Hopefully in the
next year, and we would have seen that. I've been
speaking with the Minister and the department regularly, and I
was at the Caroller Community Association last week as well
just to share that latest information. You'll see that on
Tuesday night that roadworks started from eight pm to five
am to basically open up. So in four weeks time,

(01:42):
team are aim to have two way traffic on the overpas.
They're going to basically rip off the surface at the
moment and do some modifications, but they're removing the pedestrian
crossing on the overpass, so there'll be two lanes. It's
going to take about four weeks to do, and so
there will be some nightworks there. When that overpass opens
up to this temporary fix, it will be way limited

(02:04):
and speed limited until it actually is fixed. So I
don't know when the permanent solution is coming. Along, except
if you've watched the TMR Facebook, they give you regular
updates as well, so that it is the response of
the state and the federal governments and also the traffic
management for all the details is the responsible as sponsible
as TMR. I thought it was the Department again yesterday

(02:26):
to talk about the fact that we do need that
police presence at some of those intersections. At the intersections,
people being very polite and giving away, but it is
creating a lot of hesitation and it's creating more traffic.
So the intersections that have police actually run a lot
smoother and much quicker. So that's all we're asking from
TMR and the queens and government as well. All right,

(02:46):
fair enough, mayor, all right, and new advisory committee will
be set up.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
What can you tell us about that?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yea're really happy to say that our councils establish a
new Multicultural Advisory Committee following a notice of motion by
councilor by Augustine. And look, if it is home to
an increasingly verse population. We have more than twenty two
thousand residents in its switch that speak another language other
than English at home, so it's great to see this happen.
Is which also has the highest proportion of Aboriginal tyst

(03:11):
Iland residence in Southeast Queensland. So it's really important that
as a community that we embraced everyone. And I'm really
pleased to see Council Poilver scene, who's our first councilor
in council to have African heritage. She was born in
South Africa and came out here as a school kid.
Lead this up. I think it's a terrific leak for
through our community. Yeah, absolutely all right, and we'll jump

(03:32):
to what's on this weekend, mayor to busy weekend. Will
the big things that drags are on. Winternets are on
the interistituit launched last night and I got to go
down the drags with Craig Wounds a passenger in a Chevy.
That was amazing. You are.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
I love the fact that you have everything. She was
on the rise of the show a couple of weeks
ago down the drag screaming. I get hear it in
the background down as much this time I did when
I was in those cars.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Let me do so, June is the fescil horse power.
We have the Winternets on this weekend that's on now
until Sunday, which is a really family friendly, great event.
We also have obviously laden Up's the if Pitch Cup,
and we have two days of thunder at queens and
Raceway and a whole of other events. So if you
go to Ifwich Festivals you see all the events on
but also on Saturday you'll have the free plant and

(04:24):
Lifestyle fare at the Nicol Street Precinct, So if it
Avid Gardner or a wilderness entusiast, please come along. And
also we're at Kerlow Park in Springfield Councils running a
Greening your Southern program as well, and at the Civic
Center on Sunday there's the Spirit of Australia Natural bodybuilding events,
so if that floats you buy it. It's a great event.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
All right.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Awesome well, Matt, thank you, thank you for joining us.
Thanks for the updates on the overpass which is just fantastic.
We will catch you next Thursday. For all things Ipswich.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
See next Thursday. And thanks to Jill
