Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ribnine for nine money and Campo for breakfast. Now money,
you get a little bit of an update of what's
happening in the Middle East of the moment. Ah.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yes, Israel continues to target Rand's nuclear facilities, missile stockpiles
are most importantly missile launchers. Overnight a strike put Iran's
national television off air for a while. These Israelis are
also attacking some economic infrastructures such as gas supplies, and
Iran continues to launch ballistic missiles at Israeli civilian populations,
(00:25):
including some hypersonic missiles.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
There you go. So that's kind of what's going on.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
At the moment. Well, joining us from Jerusalem, Marni. He's
lived there for thirty years with his family. He owns
a business there, cafe and an accountancy practiced. His name's
Brian Horitz.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Good morning, Brian, warning Campo, nice to be on the show.
Thanks very much for inviting me.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Our pleasure mate. Now, what's the latest in Jerusalem at
the moment.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Jerusalem at the moment, it's quiet. But every night since
Friday nights, when we launched the preemptive strikes on Iran,
I've been sending barges of missile. So these are ballistic missiles.
They carry a payload of about one to one and
a half tons of explosives and if that hits, you know,
(01:09):
whereas we're targeting military targets and the nuclear installations and sites,
they just shoot randomly one hundred missiles you know, incoming
all over the country and I hope to cause maximum damage.
Now that one one of those missile hits you can
take out half a block, you know, of people. And
so for twenty four civilians in Israel have been killed
(01:31):
from you know, hitting buildings and and everything. You know.
People we do have we do have in every every
apartment has a safe room, so people do go into
these special concrete reinforced safe rooms with glass doors, et cetera.
And that definitely helps, but it's not it's not perfect,
(01:52):
and there's a lot of casualties and a lot of injured.
There's also we also have air defense systems that should
you know, go off to intercept the incoming rockets, incoming missiles.
And yes, the Israel has developed these over the years,
and apparently Americans now also they've got their systems in
place and not trying to help with the defensive efforts.
(02:15):
Against this onslaught of ballistic missiles which which is coming
every night since Friday in huge batches, once or twice
a night. We get we wake up to these to
these loud code read alerts. They call and we have
to go into the safe room in the middle of
(02:36):
the night and just stay there till we get all clear.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
So, Brian, with all this going on, you're still going
to work.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yes, it's only supposed to be essential workers going to work.
I'm an accountant, but I just like, I need to
do something in my day, and I say, like, not
quite following the rules, but I go to work. If
I stayed at home, it would be okay to potential
workers like medical workers in that.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Well, what we're seeing on the news is a catastrophe. Really,
what's the feeling from the people there?
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Unfortunately? You know, since seventh of October, we've had a
lot in a you know, at war with Ramas that's
the group in Gaza, the terrorist organization there and his
Bolla in the in the north by Lebanon, and the
Hooties in Yemen. They have been shooting missiles at US
so and these are all iranium proxies right, So, so
(03:26):
to get you know, the whole thing combined with the
proxies firing at us and Ran being on the verge
of a nuclear you know, threshold, with their stated intention
of destroying us. You know, we feel there's no choice,
but we had to we had to act, We had
to do something. So obviously there's fear and concern, but
(03:48):
the people of Israel very resilient and we've been through
a lot and you know, we continue to live this
way and be as productive as possible while doing so.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Are the Israeli people behind the disarming of Iran?
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Definitely, the majority of the people are for disarming Iran
for sure, because it's a it's a big threat. You know,
they've so many times they want who wipe Israel off
the map. They have a doomsday clock in the middle
of Tehran counting down to what they call Israel's destruction
and parenty goes on till twenty forty. When they reckon,
(04:24):
that'll be you know, their victory, as they call it.
So it's a serious, very serious threat, and it's all
still notice but to act, and you know it's maybe
they could have acted earlier, but better late than never.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
It's not in Israel at the moment. How do you sleep?
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Oh, it's been a bit raugh been a bit rough
because the last few nights been waking up two three
times every night, so you wake up pretty tired in
the morning. And then as I've been going to work,
you know, it's do what you can and then kind
of get through the day and then you're exhausted and
then the same pattern.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Do you sleep in your bunker?
Speaker 4 (05:04):
So our one in our apartment is small, it's like
a it's like a walking closet of you know, for
the clothes, so we can't really sleep in it. But
it's a bit of an old, slightly old apartment. In
my previous apartment, which is a lot newer, one of
the rooms, one of the bedrooms was was the bunker,
so that was you know, put one of the kids
in there and they could sleep all night undisturbed.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
So how do the kids feel about what's happening? Do
they know what's going on?
Speaker 4 (05:30):
They know what's going Yeah, they know what's going on.
Since since of Tiber the seventh when we had that invasion,
they've been in the bunkers a lot, and you know,
they discussed it at school and everything, and unfortunately they're learning.
You know, they have have to live with it and
they're doing as best as they can. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Well, thank you, Brian, thank thank you for sharing.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Stay safe.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
You're welcome, Thank you, Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Our thoughts with you and your family.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Thanks. Thanks, Campa.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
I have had a good day, Marney.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
We just I think we're a little bit naive down.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
We just know.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
You can't imagine it, you know, just bombs flying. Imagine
bombs flying around Brisbane.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Going to school talking about to be in bunkers and
how disturbing it would be actually for their education and
tied and focusing class. But this is what they live
with every day, every day.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Wow.
