Speaker 1 (00:00):
Things are escalating in the red least of the moment.
If a good friend of mine, Stuart, you know Stuart Man,
he's over there at the moment. He's worked there for years.
And look I can't I can't name where he is
Okay or the company he works for, but he joins
us now from the Middle East. How are you mate?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm good mate.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Are you doing yeah, not too bad? Tell us what's
going on over there at the moment. At one stage,
round five k's from the Iranian border, GPS systems are down.
What's happening?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I was closer, it was just a couple of kays away.
There's definitely different what's going on this time? GPS signals
has all gone through the Gulf when I was working
on made that very hard to do. So looking at
trying to get flights home along with everyone else.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
How many expats are over there at the moment.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I'm not really sure. I know, trying to get a
flight home now is quite difficult. I guess everyone has
just taken precautions. Not really sure what's what's going to
happen next.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
So what's the feeling in the area. How concerned are people?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I worked here here for a long time, especially with
a lot of people that live here and to work here.
And this one's different. It's as we've seen the news
and everything. It's different in the way that everything's been done.
But hopefully it all gets sorted.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
So, Stu, you're working with Israelians and Iranians with your job.
Is there a tension between the two of them? Are
you finding that?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah? I guess as people. I mean, I remember a
lot of these people range. It's some of the nicest
people like that. It's the gene that's the problem. It's
not the people that goes so many other nationalities. The
Iranian people are awesome. Israeli people are awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So where are you now? You were struggling to get
a flight. You've managed to get one.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, that was looking a bit difficult earlier today Again,
along with everyone else, I don't know what's happening. So
they're sort of making the decision to move, go home,
leave the area from where they are, which I was
also trying to do. So have managed to get one
for tomorrow. Yeh.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
What's your advice to people who are thinking of traveling
to the Middle East at the moment? What's your thoughts there?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's definitely been rerouted because a lot of the times
so you can't fly over Iran. Israel makes it difficult
people going to Europe, and then for myself it's a
couple hours extra on the flight to be able to
be able to get home. But I guess just as Irene,
just take the travel warnings and have a look at
(02:20):
us what it's changing every day.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
All right, mate, well we'll leave it there, stay safe.
Hopefully you fly out of there's good travels, so we'll
see when you get back to Australia. Yeah, cheers mate, Yeah,
take care yeah yeah, well hopefully he's out of there
sooner than later.
