Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us this morning is Professor Paul Griffin. Good morning, professor,
how are you.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yeah, well, thanks thanks for having me. Great.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Well, there's a couple of things I want to get
through to. Firstly, I want to talk to you about
the measles outbreak that we're hearing a fair bit about.
What's the latest on that loo.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
An unfortunate situation we're finding ourselves in almost continuously now
that we are seeing imported cases of measles brought back
into Australia and Queensland, and then unfortunate, with our declining
vaccination rates, the probability of onward transition is ever increasing,
and so there's been some recent cases reported, including I
think now up to four at the Jelly Roll concert.
(00:37):
I wasn't there the biggest fan, so I think I'll
be okay for the people that were there with four
cases of measles in a fairly confined environment. You know,
that's a fairly precarious situation. We do need people to
be aware of that and take necessary precautions.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
And what are those precautions? What can people do?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
One of the main things is vaccination. It's probably one
of our most effective vaccines, provides almost lifelong protection if
you've had two doses. But there's a lot of people,
particularly if you were born before the late nineties, that
might have only had one dose. And sometimes you know,
there can be issues with people not being fully vaccinated.
So if you're not sure or you think you've only
(01:15):
had one, you can go and get a booster anyway.
And particularly if you're traveling to high risk locations like Indonesia,
parts of the US, etc. They're getting a measles vaccine
before you go can reduce the chance of getting that overseas,
interrupting your holiday and bringing those viruses back into Australia.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Okay, well, look there was a great article in the
Career Mail over the weekend about yourself, doctor Paul Griffin
talking about obviously infectious diseases and other things. But I
do want to talk to you about a limousine that
you own, which they discussed in length. You've got a
stretch limbo hanging outside your house. Is this have you
(01:51):
got a driver or do you drive this yourself? Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Look, a bit of both. It was one of those
things that you know, we may have had a few
drinks and a friend said quished by a limo and
I thought, oh, there's no way serious that went along
with it and the next thing we own one. So
it's a pretty banged up old thing, but it's great father. Yeah,
we drive it pretty often. We've taken it to games
at the Gold Coast and out of Springfield, so yeah,
(02:16):
it's a great way to get to the footy. We
love it.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Well. I hope you're going to be driving to the
Brisbane Lines afl W game at Brighton Homes Arena this
Saturday night in your limo against Carlton. If they win it,
they're off to their fourth Grand Final in a arrow,
which would be amazing. And now imagine if Brisbane does
win the afl W competition at top of the AFL
the NRL, the NRLW Grand Finals all this year, we'll
own everything.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
That's amazing, is it?
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I mean?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Even for them to get as far as this year,
it's difficult in the AFLW with some of those new
teams and the players they have been able to acquire. But
you know, our girls have punched above their weight for
a few years now and you know, to get this
far and have a home game at Brighton Homes Arena
this Saturday night, it's amazing. So I'm going to try
and be out there. Might take the limo, we'll see,
but try to get behind them. And yes, certainly if
they can get all the way through, wouldn't it just
(02:58):
be an amazing thing for Britain and support this year.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
One hundred percent. Always a pleasure. Thank you so much.
I'm going to put your link of your career mail
excerpt up on the Rivenine for nine facebook page. Have
a great day, Thank you, Thanks very much,
